Confinement was a helpful measure to avoid virus propagation, but social isolation and the massive closure of face-to face activities in educational institutions, impacted negatively in mental health of students, it increased stress and anxiety in adolescents, affecting their communication skills in this significant step of interpersonal relationships, and the search for their identity. The lockdown in addition to stress and anxiety triggered fear emotions, frustration, worrying and anger, as well as changes in driving energy, diminishing interest and desires. This work aimed to analyze the impact on mental health in first year secondary school adolescents after the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. Method: Qualitative and phenomenological research, 25 students of first year from a public secondary school of Mexico’s metropolitan area participated in the study;they were girls and boys 12 - 13 years old. Data collection was through a semi-structured interview, testimonials and anecdotes, in two hour sessions, along a week;research team recorded the interviews, testimonials and anecdotes. A signed informed consent was obtained from school authorities, parents and the assent of students. Obtained qualitative data were analyzed according to De Souza Minayo. Results: Four categories emerged with sub-categories. Category 1: Anxiety crisis, sub-categories 1.1. In overcrowded places, 1.2. To speak in public, 1.3. Facing interpersonal relationships with peers. Category 2: Impaired self-concept, sub-categories 2.1. Deficient self-perception, 2.2 Continuous disqualification and 2.3. Deficient personal objectivity. Category 3: Emotions handling, and sub-categories 3.1 Deficient identification of emotions, 3.2 Deficient handling of emotions, 3.3 Maximized emotions. Category 4: Coping strategies, and sub-categories 4.1 Deficient coping strategies, 4.2 Self-injuries, 4.3 Solitude. Introduction: The World Health Organization establishes that 80% of the world’s population uses traditional medicine for their primary care, because they contain compounds responsible for their properties. Objective: To evaluate the antifungal effect of the essential oil of Citrus paradisi against C. albicans and the cytotoxic effect in three cell lines in vitro. Methods: The phytochemical characterization of the oil was carried out by chemical methods and Gas chromatography (GC-MS) and the antifungal effect against C. albicans (ATCC 90029) was evaluated by the Kirby-Bauer method, which evaluated concentrations of 0.75 - 20 μg/mL and compared with nystatin 100,000 Ul/mL as a positive control. The percentage of the relative inhibitory effect was calculated. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined at 24 hours. Moreover, the cytotoxic effect on C. albicans and cell lines was determined by the colorimetric MTT tetrazolium assay. Finally, the antifungal effect against Candida strains isolated from clinical samples was evaluated at a concentration of 20 μg/mL. Results: The essential oil showed an antifungal effect with a percentage of inhibition of 123%. The MIC was 2.5 μg/mL, and the cytotoxicity index was 5.44 μg/mL for C. albicans. The IC50 values were 21.060, 9.482 and 4.176 μg/mL for Vero E6, J774A.1 and MDBK cells respectively. Conclusion: These results show the use of C. paradisi essential oil as an alternative treatment in oral antifungal therapy, it is beneficial due to its antifungal effect and its low toxicity on cell cultures.

In this work the use of Polyurethane (PU)-Chitosan(CH) scaffolds prepared by thermal induced phase separation (TIPS) for osteoblast proliferation and bone mineralization is described. Primary rat calvaria osteoblasts were seeded in the scaffolds and it was shown that supported cell adhesion and growth. The behavior osteoblast cells growing in the scaffold in function of the different ratio of PU and CH is presented. The results showed that TIPS is an appropriate technique for the production of PU-CH scaffolds with high potential for application as cell scaffolds in bone tissue engineering.

As biomarkers are important in the early diagnosis ofAlzheimer’s disease （AD）, the frst collab-orative work of recruiting early-onset familial AD （EO-FAD） families in Canada and China was initiated in 2012. The registration networks have collected hundreds of pedigrees, for which genetic screening, neuropsycholog-ical tests and amyloid and tau imaging was used to study diagnostic biomarkers for preclinical and mild cognitive impairment （MCI） stages of AD. Besides identifying ped-igrees with novel mutations in presenilins （PSENs）/amy-loid precursor protein （APP）, the program has benefted training of Chinese research fellows, AD clinical trials forprevention,the ethical concernsfor clinical fndings, and other collaborative projects with Chinese investiga-tors. Further research of the collaborative program may facilitate the testing and clinical use of novel treatments for EOFAD and late onset AD and contribute to dementia prevention strategies in Canada and China.

A flexible,fully organic detector for proton beams is presented *** detector operates in the indirect mode and is composed of a polysiloxane-based scintillating layer coupled to an organic phototransistor,that is assessed for flexibility and low-voltage operation(V=−1 V),with a limit of detection of 0.026 Gy min^(−1).We present a kinetic model able to precisely reproduce the dynamic response of the device under irradiation and to provide further insight into the physical processes controlling *** detector is designed to target real-time and in-situ dose monitoring during proton therapy and demonstrates mechanical flexibility and low power operation,assessing its potential employment as a personal dosimeter with high comfort and low risk for the *** results show how such a proton detector represents a promising tool for real-time particle detection over a large area and irregular surfaces,suitable for many applications,from experimental scientific research to innovative theranostics.

Adams-Oliver Syndrome (AOS) is a rare genetic disease characterized by combination of aplasia cutis congenita (ACC) and terminal transverse limb defects (TTLD), often accompanied by defects in scalp and skull ossification. Different clinical phenotypes may be related to variable severity both of aplasia cutis and TTLD, and of minor clinical features as cutis marmorata telangiectatica congenita (CMTC), congenital cardiac defect and vascular anomalies. The treatment is multidisciplinary: dermatologic, orthopedic and surgical consult should be required. It still remains unclear how to treat patients with a large skin defect that can‘t be closed primarly and may require both surgical and conservative management. We report two cases of AOS with typical limb defects and an area of aplasia cutis over vertex of the scalp managed conservatively with two different dermatologic devices.

社会心理因素和癫痫治疗可能对癫痫患者及其家庭的健康相关生活质量(Health-related quality of life,HRQOL)产生显著影响,临床上广泛关注心理评估和治疗在改善HRQOL和癫痫共病中的作用。因此,国际抗癫痫联盟(ILAE)委托心理工作组,基于其最近对癫痫患者心理治疗的Cochrane回顾证据的评估,制定了相关临床建议。近期关于癫痫患者心理治疗随机对照试验的Cochrane回顾是本文的主要证据来源。为提供具有实用意义的指导,我们根据美国神经病学学会证据水平系统以及推荐分级、评估、开发和评价系统对研究设计进行评级。本文是儿童和成人心理学家、神经病学家、精神病学家和神经精神病学家进行国际合作的顶点。ILAE执行委员会审查并批准了这一进程和结论。心理干预的最强证据被确定为最常见的心理健康问题,包括抑郁症、神经认知障碍和药物依从性。针对提高HRQOL和依从性以及减少共病症状(焦虑、抑郁)的心理干预应纳入癫痫综合护理中。一系列的心理策略(如认知行为疗法和正念疗法)为提升癫痫患者生活质量带来希望,也给癫痫临床工作者提供了治疗癫痫共病、应对挑战的临床建议。

Necrotizing Pneumonia and Conservative Treatment: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

We present a case of necrotizing pneumonia in an 87-year-old man without severe respiratory instability. Clinical suspicion arose due to the need for supplementary oxygen and persistent fever during treatment for community-acquired pneumonia. The diagnosis was confirmed by chest computed tomography. Although necrotizing pneumonia typically requires major surgical intervention upon diagnosis, we chose conservative management with antimicrobials and chest drainage alone. The patient experienced significant improvement and resolution of pneumonia with conservative management.
