The results of the present study indicate that glandless cottonseed meal (CSM) can be incorporated in extruded corn flour snacks at a 10% content level, which increases snack protein content to 12.8% and reduce fat content to 6.2%. To improve snacks’ nutritional quality, CSM and corn flour were extruded using a simple screw extruder. An expansion index (EI) ranging of 1.2 - 4.7 was obtained. Penetration force (PF) was 7 - 9 times harder than other extruded products. High extrusion temperature and high CSM concentrations decreased (p p p< 0.05) extrudates’ water solubility index. Extrusion conditions used showed a 68.5% starch gelatinization, and a starch availability of more than 97%, which explains the high expansion index obtained.

We evaluated several organic fertilizers associated or not to mineral fertilizers, in the cane yield and theoretical sugarcane brandy in plant cane. The experimental design was randomized blocks, with nine treatments and four replications, constituted of： TI： Liming （ 1 ）＋ reactive rock phosphate （2）＋ chemical fertilizer （3）; T2：2 ＋ 3; T3：1 ＋ 3 （control）; T4：1 ＋ 2 ＋ 3 ＋ cattle manure （4）; T5： 1 ＋ 2 ＋ 4; T6：1 ＋ 2 ＋ 3 ＋ chicken manure （5）; T7：1 ＋ 2 ＋ 5; T8：1 ＋ 2 ＋ 3 ＋ cane bagasse （6）; T9：1 ＋ 2 ＋ 6. It was applied the fertilizers in the following doses： cattle manure, 30 t hal; chicken manure, 3.5 t hal; cane bagasse, 24 t ha-1; reactive rock phosphate, 400 kg ha-1 and 120 kg ha-1 of K20 and P205, in the planting furrow. The limestone was distributed in the dose of 2.5 t ha-1 The variety was used SP 79-1011. The cattle manure substituted the chemical fertilization of plant cane. The cane bagasse, when used as organic source should always be complemented with the chemical fertilization; there were no effect of treatments in the principal technological characteristics of the cane.

SCAD （spontaneous coronary artery dissection） proves to be a pathology of several manifestations, whose clinical diagnosis is a challenge for emergency departments. Therefore, their early identification and knowledge of the various forms of presentation are mandatory for optimal medical therapy. We present a case report of a 45-year-old patient who was admitted to the coronary unit showing symptoms and laboratory tests compatible with myocardial infarction. Complete diagnosis was obtained only with more specific exams. The manifestations of the disease in the case described and the main features of the disease are discussed.

Results of dynamic and equilibrium of sorption of a reactive dye Remazol Brilliant Blue, and a bactericidal agent, Digluconate of Chlorhexidine over Polyamide fibers are presented with the aim of supplying the fiber with bactericidal properties. However, adsorption of Chlorhexidine onto Polyamide is scarce due to the lack of interactions between the reactive groups of the fiber and the antiseptic molecule. Therefore, in order to provide the fiber surface with anionic groups, fiber has been previously dyed with Remazol Brilliant Blue which increases the negative charge of the fiber surface due to the presence of its sulfonate end groups. Thermodynamic parameters of equilibrium sorption in the two situations, fiber/dye and fiber-dye/Chlorhexidine, have been analyzed, as function of the temperature, pH and concentration of the dye in the pretreatment. Results show that when sorption of Remazol Brilliant Blue reaches the value of about 50 mmol/ kg at the higher temperature and concentration tested, the amount of Chlorhexidine adsorbed exhibits its maximum value which is 6 mmol/kg. Both processes, adsorption of Remazol Brilliant Blue and adsorption of Chlorhexidine, fit well to Langmuir adsorption model, suggesting the existence of some kinds of specific interactions between adsorbent and adsorbate. Thermodynamic functions show that the interaction is endothermic and spontaneous in all the rage of temperature tested. The kinetic studies show that sorption of Remazol Brilliant Blue is better described by pseudo-first order model, while sorption of Chlorhexidine fits better to pseudo-second order model, and seems to be quicker process. According to the obtained results, chemical interaction between the vinyl-sulfone group of Remazol Brilliant Blue and the amine groups of Polyamide fiber, followed by electrostatic interactions between the guanine group of the Chlorhexidine and the sulfonate group of the dye must be considered in order to explain the adsorption process.

The aim of this study was to quantify the dynamics of herbaceous biomass and fine root productivity, and their relationship to stocks of carbon and nitrogen, in the Vertisols of two adjacent watersheds of a seasonally dry tropical forest (SDTF) under two different types of ground cover. The two watersheds are located in the county of Iguatu in the State of Ceará, Brazil. The control watershed of 2.1 ha, has been under regeneration for 35 years (RC35), while the second watershed (1.1 ha) was subjected to thinning for a period of 5 years (TC5). The sampled variables were herbaceous shoot biomass, fine roots, gravimetric moisture, the isotope δ13C (‰), total soil carbon (TSC) and total nitrogen (TN) in the 0 - 20, 20 - 40 and 40 - 60 cm layers, between April 2013 and march 2014. To quantify herbaceous shoot biomass, samples were taken monthly. For TSC and TN, the campaigns were held every two months. The data underwent analysis of means and were compared by t-test (p < 0.05). Under TC5, there was an increase in the stocks of TSC and TN of 151 and 137% respectively in the 40 - 60 cm layer, in relation to RC35. The implementation of thinning in a SDFT is seen as a management alternative to be considered in sustainability programs in the semi-arid region, contributing to maximising the production of herbaceous forage for feeding large and small ruminants, and for bee pasture, in addition to increasing the stock of carbon in the soil of SDFT and reducing global warming.

Several pharmaceutical compounds have been detected in natural aqueous systems and ibuprofen (IBF), one of the most consumed medicament, has been detected in many countries. The degradation efficiency of IBF under TiO2/UV radiation was evaluated. Optimum degradation results were observed using 20 mg·L-1 of TiO2, pH 7.8 and 5 mg·L-1 of IBF. Under these experimental conditions total IBF removal was achieved in less than 60 min of irradiation. Although total IBF concentration was observed, the total mineralization of the compound was not achieved. The by-products generated during TiO2/UV reaction showed to be more toxic against Daphnia similis than the initial IBF present in aqueous solution.

Objectives: Identification of the level of knowledge on ergonomics principles, and application of these by dentistry students to investigate whether painful symptomatology was experienced. An-other objective is the expansion of discussions on occupational health in academic settings. Study Design and Settings: Dentistry students of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil (n = 148) were surveyed using the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire to determine the severity of musculoskeletal symptoms experienced. Data were analyzed through EpiInfo 7.0 to measure central trends and variability 5for quantitative variables, absolute and relative frequencies for categorical variables, and significance between groups (confidence intervals and chisquare). Association analysis (Pearson) was also carried out. Results: Ergonomic measures were not reported by students. Within the musculoskeletal symptoms described, females were the most affected, independent of academic level. Conclusions: Positive correlations were verified between all categories and all anatomic regions (e.g., neck, lower back, wrists, hands, and shoulders). Data suggest progressive worsening of symptoms, which will eventually result in leaves of absence.

New particle formation(NPF) in the tropical free troposphere(FT) is a globally important source of cloud condensation nuclei, affecting cloud properties and climate. Oxidized organic molecules(OOMs)produced from biogenic volatile organic compounds are believed to contribute to aerosol formation in the tropical FT, but without direct chemical observations. We performed in situ molecular-level OOMs measurements at the Bolivian station Chacaltaya at 5240 m above sea level, on the western edge of Amazonia. For the first time, we demonstrate the presence of OOMs, mainly with 4–5 carbon atoms, in both gas-phase and particle-phase(in terms of mass contribution) measurements in tropical FT air from Amazonia. These observations, combined with air mass history analyses, indicate that the observed OOMs are linked to isoprene emitted from the rainforests hundreds of kilometers away. Based on particle-phase measurements, we find that these compounds can contribute to NPF, at least the growth of newly formed nanoparticles, in the tropical FT on a continental scale. Thus, our study is a fundamental and significant step in understanding the aerosol formation process in the tropical FT.
