AIM To investigate any changing trends in the etiologies of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) in Argentina during the last years. METHODS A longitudinal cohort study was conducted by 14 regional hospitals starting in 2009 through 2016. All adult patients with newly diagnosed HCC either with pathology or imaging criteria were included. Patients were classified as presenting non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) either by histology or clinically, provided that all other etiologies of liver disease were ruled out, fatty liver was present on abdominal ultrasound and alcohol consumption was excluded. Complete follow-up was assessed in all included subjects since the date of HCC diagnosis until death or last medical *** A total of 708 consecutive adults with HCC were included. Six out of 14 hospitals were liver transplant centers(n = 484). The prevalence of diabetes mellitus was 27.7%. Overall, HCV was the main cause of liver disease related with HCC(37%) including cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic patients, followed by alcoholic liver disease 20.8%, NAFLD 11.4%, cryptogenic 9.6%, HBV 5.4% infection, cholestatic disease and autoimmune hepatitis 2.2%, and other causes 9.9%. A 6-fold increase in the percentage corresponding to NAFLDHCC was detected when the starting year, i.e., 2009 was compared to the last one, i.e., 2015(4.3% vs 25.6%; P < 0.0001). Accordingly, a higher prevalence of diabetes mellitus was present in NAFLD-HCC group 61.7% when compared to other than NAFLD-HCC 23.3%(P < 0.0001). Lower median AFP values at HCC diagnosis were observed between NAFLD-HCC and non-NAFLD groups(6.6 ng/m L vs 26 ng/m L; P = 0.02). Neither NAFLD nor other HCC etiologies were associated with higher *** The growing incidence of NAFLD-HCC documented in the United States and Europe is also observed in Argentina, a confirmation with important Public Health implications.

Dynamics of canopy-dwelling arthropods under different weed management options,including glyphosate,in conventional and genetically modified insect-resistant maize

Composition and Physico-Chemical Properties of Meat from Capons Fed Cereals

Chemical composition, physico-chemical properties and fatty acid composition of breast and drumstick meat from capons （castrated male cockerels） fed cereals were studied. Three groups of capons were reared. One group was fed ad libitum the same commercial diet until the 4th mon of life. The last month of its life, the capons of this group were fed corn. The second and third group of capons were fed the same diet from caponization. The second group was fed mixture of corn （50%） and wheat （50%）. The third group of capons was fed 2/3 corn and 1/3 mixture of corn （50%） and barley （50%）. Capons were reared under free-range conditions and slaughtered at 150 d of age. Caponization was performed at 48 d. No signiifcant effects of feeding in chemical composition, pH, water holding capacity, drip and cooking losses and texture of the meat were observed. The meat of the third group （capons fed 83%corn） was more yellow and showed higher content of C18：2 than that of the other capons.

Although multiple options for the treatment of liver tumors have often been described in the past, including liver resection, radiofrequency ablation with or without hepatic pump insertion, laparoscopic liver resection and the use of chemotherapy, the potential of immunotherapy and gene manipulation is still largely *** therapy by gene manipulation is based on the interaction between virus-based gene delivery systems and dendritic cells. Using viruses as vectors, it is possible to transduce dendritic cells with genes encoding tumor-associated antigens, thus inducing strong humoral and cellular immunity against the antigens *** chemotherapy and radiation therapy have the disadvantage of destroying healthy cells, thus causing severe side-effects. We need more precisely targeted therapies capable of killing cancer cells while sparing healthy cells. Our goal is to establish a new treatment for solid liver tumors based on the concept of cytoreduction,and propose an innovative algorithm.

Triglyceride levels and apolipoprotein E polymorphism in patients with acute pancreatitis

BACKGROUND:Hypertriglyceridemia is an unusual cause of acute pancreatitis and sometimes considered to be an *** study aimed to investigate the clinical and analytical features and the APOE genotypes in patients with acute pancreatitis and severe ***:We undertook a one-year,prospective study of patients with acute pancreatitis whose first laboratory analysis on admission to the emergency department included measurement of serum *** APOE genotype was determined and the patients answered an established questionnaire within the first 24 hours concerning their alcohol consumption,the presence of co-morbidities and any medications being *** patients’ progression,etiological diagnosis,hospital stay and clinical and radiological severity were all ***:Hypertriglyceridemia was responsible for 7 of 133 cases of pancreatitis (5%);the remaining cases were of biliary (53%),idiopathic (26%),alcoholic (11%) or other (5%) *** with these remaining cases,the patients with hypertriglyceridemia were significantly younger,had more relapses,and more often had diabetes *** usually consumed alcohol or consumed it excessively on the days before ***,the ε4 allele of the APOE gene was more common in this group (P<0.05).CONCLUSION:One of 20 episodes of acute pancreatitis is caused by hypertriglyceridemia and it is linked to genetic (ε4 allele) and comorbid factors such as diabetes and,especially,alcohol consumption.

在过去的几十年里,中国作为世界第二大经济体,一直是学者和分析人士评估内部和外部金融冲击的焦点。企业财务困境便一直是重要关注点。因为在危机和灾难性事件之后,公司是此经济体中受影响较深的机构之一,它们也会因此不得不退出市场。本文比较了六种机器学习模式的性能,阐释1998-2016年期间中国沪深两市上市公司退市与否的二分类问题。本文样本包括2,863家公司,在分析中,它们被分成了训练、验证和测试三类数据集(50/25/25),用于对各个模型进行有效性的评估。相应地,本文比较了决策树(DT)、提升方法、随机森林(RF)、支持向量机(SVM)、逻辑回归和人工神经网络(ANN)等模型。本文使用前向逐步筛选法对国泰安数据库(CSMAR)财务报表中的偿付能力、比率结构、收益能力分析、工业经济部门、经营能力、现金流和增长率等44个财务比率指标进行变量选择。最终,本文选择了适合模型的24个财务指标,从而减少预测误差,并使得结果更为可靠。实证结果表明,随机森林和提升方法能提供最佳的预测性能,这两个方法的分类误差最小,并在AUC(ROC曲线)和召回率-准确率曲线的评估测量中表现出色。此外,本文应用了优于其他模型的随机森林,对变量的相对重要性进行分析。由此分析得出,对于预测中国企业退出的最重要的三个财务指标是ROA(资产收益率)、EBITDA/总负债和营业净利润率。

Dermatoscopy in the Diagnosis of Vulvar Basal Cell Carcinoma:A Case Report

Introduction: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common human malignancy commonly in white people, but in less than 1% of cases it may appear on unexposed areas, like the perineal and anal regions. Vulvar BCC is often diagnosed late because it grows slowly and tends to be asymptomatic, with no specific physical findings. Here, we present a rare Latin patient with a 10-year history of vulvar BCC with dermatoscopic and histopathologic *** report: A 65-year-old Latin woman presented with a nodule on her left labium majus, which she first noted 10 years ago, and that had grown slowly but constantly. She also reported a 20-year history of pruritus and occasional pain. Physical examination showed a 3.5 cm × 3.0 cm erythematous lesion with a central rough without inguinal lymphadenopathy. Contact dermatoscopy (Dermalite DL3 Gen.) showed one blurred cluster of arborising vessels in a pinkish background with white homogeneous areas and lines radial converging. An incisional biopsy was realized, and histopathology diagnosed ***: Vulvar BCC is a rare malignancy that affects mainly Caucasian women over 70 years of age. The most common etiology for BCC is ultraviolet radiation, but as the vulva is unexposed its cause is unclear. Mutations in tumor suppressor and regulatory genes such as p53 are present in 50% of cases. Gorlin syndrome, chronic radiation, chronic arsenic exposure, xeroderma pigmentosum, and immunosuppression have been considered as risk ***: Vulvar BCC characteristics are the same as other cutaneous forms, featuring blue ovoid nests and arborizing telangiectasia, confused with inflammatory diseases, such as eczema, psoriasis, and chronic infection (especially if it is accompanied by pruritus), this makes diagnosis complex, with a delay of 5 to 6 years on average, with an average size of 2.1 cm. Diagnosis is enhanced with dermatoscopy, as the preferred treatment for most BCC cases is wide surgical excision.
