Extraction of tectonic imprints using geospatial techniques:Evidence from Mandakini River basin,Uttarakhand,India

The existing literature discussed only the aerial aspect and provided a brief description of tectonic-geomorphic correlation with field *** present study we applied power law equations to estimate basin asymmetry factor(AF),Transverse topographic asymmetric factor(T),Hypsometric Integral(HI),longitudinal profile,stream length gradient index(SL),steepness index(Ksn),Chi(χ),and knick point(Kp)analysis to examine the response of tectono-climatic fluctuations in the Mandakini River basin,central Uttarakhand *** decouple the causative tectono-climatic factors,we employed geospatial and Stream Power Incision Modeling(SPIM)*** is a globally accepted tool to predict an equilibrium state between fluvial erosion rates and the escalating function of stream *** is actively applied in modeling the transformation of river systems especially in rugged topographic *** present study covers SPIM-based morphometric assessment of the tectonically sensitive Mandakini River basin between Ramgarh Thrust(RT)and Vaikrita Thrust(VT)in the central region of Uttarakhand *** the upper reaches of the basin,U-shaped glaciated valleys dominate the landscape,while a rolling topography and deeply incised narrow valleys are depicted towards the ***,to understand the response of active tectonic over geomorphology,the drainage basin has been divided into two separate zones from the confluence point near the Rampur *** modeling outcomes indicate that the Mandakini drainage basin is in a disequilibrium state where channels are actively incising to ***,AF of 32 and 70 indicate leftward tilting in the upper reaches and rightward tilting in the lower reaches of the basin,*** HI value of 0.38 indicates a stage of maturity,characterized by a concave shape *** on the analysis it may be concluded that the fragile lithology and tectono-climatic fluctuations are dominantly controlling the topography and valle

Bacterial adhesion and biofilms on surfaces

Bacterial adhesion has become a significant problem in industry and in the domicile, and much research has been done for deeper understanding of the processes involved. A generic biological model of bacterial adhesion and population growth called the bacterial biofilm growth cycle, has been described and modified many times. The biofilm growth cycle encompasses bacterial adhesion at all levels, starting with the initial physical attraction of bacteria to a substrate, and ending with the eventual liberation of cell clusters from the biofilm matrix. When describing bacterial adhesion one is simply describing one or more stages of biofilm development, neglecting the fact that the population may not reach maturity. This article provides an overview of bacterial adhesion, cites examples of how bac- terial adhesion afiects industry and summarises methods and instrumentation used to improve our understanding of the adhesive prop- erties of bacteria.

Innovative stair climber using associated wheels

The study proposes an innovative and com- pletely new but low-cost configuration of a platform that can easily climb stairs. This platform serves the purpose of a chassis. Different versions, such as staircase-climbing wheelchair or staircase-climbing trolley for material transferring, can be derived depending on the structure built on the platform. The driving wheels have a shape that completely matches with the profile of the steps. Complex components are eliminated. Thus, this platform is conveniently applicable in the configurations useful for climbing staircases.

Dynamical Casimir effect in superradiant light scattering by Bose Einstein condensate in an optomechanical cavity

We investigate the effects of dynamical Casimir effect in superradiant light scattering by Bose-Einstein condensate in an optomechanical cavity. The system is studied using both classical and quantized mirror motions. The cavity frequency is harmonically modulated in time for both the cases. The main quantity of interest is the number of intracavity scattered photons. The system has been investigated under the weak and strong modulations. It has been observed that the amplitude of the scattered photons is more for the classical mirror motion than the quantized mirror motion. Also, initially, the amplitude of scattered photons is high for lower modulation amplitude than higher modulation amplitude. We also found that the behavior of the plots are similar under strong and weak modulations for the quantized mirror motion.

Anti-inflammatory,analgesic and antipyretic activity of methanolic Tecomaria capensis leaves extract

Objective:To evaluate the analgesic,anti-inflammatory and antipyretic activity of methanolic Tecomaria capensis(***) leaves extract using different models in ***: Methanolic *** leaves extract(100,300,1000 and 2000 mg/kg body weight) was given to rats orally to observe acute toxicity,and observed for 14 *** activity was evaluated using tail immersion and formalin induced paw licking models in ***-inflammatory activity was evaluated using carrageenan induced paw edema model in *** activity was evaluated using brewer's yeast induced pyrexia model in *** *** leaves extract were given at dose of 100,200 and 500 mg/kg ***:Results demonstrated that the no mortality was reported even after 14 *** indicated that the methanol extract was safe up to a single dose of 2000 mg/kg body weight Methanolic 71 capensis leaves extract(100,200 and 500 mg/kg p.o.) significantly increased the latency period in the tail immersion test,reduced the licking time in both the neurogenic and inflammatory phases in the formalin *** *** leaves extract(100,200 and 500 mg/kg p.o.) significantly prevented increase in volume of paw edema. Methanolic *** leaves extract at the doses of(100,200 and 500 mg/kg p.o.) significantly decreased the rectal temperature of the ***:This study exhibites that methanolic T. capensis leaves extract possesses analgesic,anti-inflammatory and antipyretic activity which may be mediated by the central and peripheral mechanisms.

Titanium nanoparticles attenuates arsenic toxicity by up-regulating expressions of defensive genes in Vigna radiata L

Arsenic(As)-toxicity is recognized as one of the major environmental problems,affecting productivity of crops worldwide,thereby threatening sustainable agriculture and food *** in nanotechnology and its impacts have brought up concerns about the application of engineered nanoparticles(NPs)in various sectors of the economy,including the field of *** various NPs,there has been a rising amount of interest regarding the effects of titanium NPs(TiNPs)on plants growth and development,and their fate of abiotic stress ***,the present study was aimed to assess the ameliorative potentialities of chemically and biologically/green synthesized TiNPs to alleviate As-induced toxic responses in Vigna radiata *** results revealed that exposure to As hindered the growth indices(radicle length and biomass)and membrane integrity,while were improved with the application of chemical and green synthesized *** addition,treatment of As provoked the accretion of reactive oxygen species(superoxide and hydrogen peroxide)and malondialdehyde(a lipid per oxidized product),but were diminished by the supplementation of chemical and green manufactured *** experimental data also signified that exogenous application of chemical and green synthesized TiNPs conferred tolerance to As-induced oxidative injuries via perking-up the expressions of antioxidant genes and enzyme systems viz;superoxide dismutase and ***,the present study inferred that chemically and green synthesized TiNPs,particularly green manufactured,effectively mitigated the adverse impacts of As by augmenting antioxidant machinery,thereby proving its potentiality in the alleviation of As-toxicity,at least in Vignaradiata L.

Impact of centralization of pancreaticoduodenectomy coupled with fast track recovery protocol:a comparative study from India

BACKGROUND: Fast track strategy in the management of patients undergoing intra-abdominal surgery of various types has emerged as a landmark approach to reduce surgical stress and accelerate recovery. This study was to evaluate the effect of fast track strategy on patients subjected to pancreaticoduo-denectomy (PD) from an individual unit during transit from low to a high volume center. METHODS: A total of 142 PD patients who had been subjected to fast track strategy between June 2008 and September 2012 were compared with 46 patients who had received convention-al surgery between January 2006 and May 2008. Comparative analysis was made of postoperative complications, postopera-tive recovery, length of hospital stay and patient readmission requirement. RESULTS: The patients subjected to fast track strategy had a faster recovery and a shorter hospital stay than those who were treated conventionally (7.8 vs 12.1 days). The intraoperative events like operative blood loss (417.9±83.8 vs 997.4 ±151.8 mL, P CONCLUSIONS: This preliminary analysis suggests that the fast track approach might be beneifcial to the well-being of the patients after PD, for it accelerates the immediate clinical recovery of patients and signiifcantly shortens their length of hospital stay.

Neural network-based image reconstruction in swept-source optical coherence tomography using undersampled spectral data

Optical coherence tomography(OCT)is a widely used non-invasive biomedical imaging modality that can rapidly provide volumetric images of ***,we present a deep learning-based image reconstruction framework that can generate swept-source OCT(SS-OCT)images using undersampled spectral data,without any spatial aliasing *** neural network-based image reconstruction does not require any hardware changes to the optical setup and can be easily integrated with existing swept-source or spectral-domain OCT systems to reduce the amount of raw spectral data to be *** show the efficacy of this framework,we trained and blindly tested a deep neural network using mouse embryo samples imaged by an SS-OCT *** 2-fold undersampled spectral data(i.e.,640 spectral points per A-line),the trained neural network can blindly reconstruct 512 A-lines in 0.59 ms using multiple graphics-processing units(GPUs),removing spatial aliasing artifacts due to spectral undersampling,also presenting a very good match to the images of the same samples,reconstructed using the full spectral OCT data(i.e.,1280 spectral points per A-line).We also successfully demonstrate that this framework can be further extended to process 3×undersampled spectral data per A-line,with some performance degradation in the reconstructed image quality compared to 2×spectral ***,an A-line-optimized undersampling method is presented by jointly optimizing the spectral sampling locations and the corresponding image reconstruction network,which improved the overall imaging performance using less spectral data points per A-line compared to 2×or 3×spectral undersampling *** deep learning-enabled image reconstruction approach can be broadly used in various forms of spectral-domain OCT systems,helping to increase their imaging speed without sacrificing image resolution and signal-to-noise ratio.
