The effect of alloy segregation and delta （δ） ferrite contents on surface cracking of three standard （i.e. AISI 304L, AISI 310S and AISI 321） and two low nickel （i.e. LNi-1 and LNi-0.3） austenitic stainless steels （ASS） during hot roiling was investigated using optical microscopy （OM）, automatic image analyzer, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy （EDX） and electron probe micro analyzer （EPMA）. It was observed that the amount of 6-ferrite varied among different grades and also distributed heterogeneously across the width of the steel plates. In general, low nickel ASS showed higher amount of 6-ferrite compared to the standard ASS grades. The tendency to surface cracking during hot rolling gradually increased with increasing 6-ferrite content. Interestingly, carbon and nitrogen exerted maximum effect on 6-ferrite formation. The higher carbon and nitrogen content in the steel decreased 6-ferMte content. In addition, the segregation of Cu and Mn plays significant role in low nickel ASS and Ni-Cr in case of standard ASS has profound effect on surface cracking of the steel plates. A possible cause of surface crack formation/origination in steel plates during hot rolling was discussed.

Biotite and muscovite inclusions inside mica host minerals from the Sutlej section of the Higher Himalayan Crystalline were studied under an optical microscope. These inclusions formed possibly by local recrystallization of mica grains during regional prograde metamorphism, with some affected by top-to-SW shear leading to parallelogram shapes. Recrystallization may have been assisted by solution transfer along the cleavage planes of the host grains. The relative competency of deformed phyllosilicate inclusions with the same or different composition to the host depends on the size and orientation of（001） cleavage planes of the inclusions relative to the host. Shearing of mica inclusions led to their parallelogram geometries within the contained mica inclusions. Some of the sheared inclusions deflect cleavage planes in the host minerals and define flanking microstructures. Trapezoidshaped inclusions are a new finding that deserves more attention for their genesis. These structurally anisotropic inclusions did not originate from sub-grains, secondary infillings or retrogression. These inclusions are also not related to pseudomorphism, isomorphism, folding of the bulk rock etc. Some of the inclusions formed by recrystallization of the host mineral during top-to-SW ductile shear.

Adaptive Execution of Jobs in Computational Grid Environment

In a computational grid, jobs must adapt to the dynamically changing heterogeneous environment with an objective of maintaining the quality of service. In order to enable adaptive execution of multiple jobs running concurrently in a computational grid, we propose an integrated performance-based resource management framework that is supported by a multi-agent system （MAS）. The multi-agent system initially allocates the jobs onto different resource providers based on a resource selection algorithm. Later, during runtime, if performance of any job degrades or quality of service cannot be maintained for some reason （resource failure or overloading）, the multi-agent system assists the job to adapt to the system. This paper focuses on a part of our framework in which adaptive execution facility is supported. Adaptive execution facility is availed by reallocation and local tuning of jobs. Mobile, as well as static agents are employed for this purpose. The paper provides a summary of the design and implementation and demonstrates the efficiency of the framework by conducting experiments on a local grid test bed.

The prospects ofa p＋nn＋ cubic silicon carbide （3C-SiC/fl-SiC） based IMPATT diode as a potential solidstate terahertz source is studied for the first time through a modified generalized simulation scheme. The simulation predicts that the device is capable of generating an RF power output of 63.0 W at 0.33 THz with an efficiency of 13%. The effects of parasitic series resistance on the device performance and exploitable RF power level are further simulated. The studies clearly establish the potential of 3C-SiC as a base semiconductor material for a high-power THz IMPATT device. Based on the simulation results, an attempt has been made to fabricate β-SiC based IMPATT devices in the THz region. Single crystalline, epitaxial 3C-SiC films are deposited on silicon （Si）（100） substrates by rapid thermal chemical vapour deposition （RTPCVD） at a temperature as low as 800 ℃ using a single precursor methylsilane, which contains Si and C atoms in the same molecule. No initial surface carbonization step is required in this method. A p-n junction with an n-type doping concentration of 4 × 10^24 m-3 （which is similar to the simulated design data） has been grown successfully and the characterization of the grown 3C-SiC film is reported in this paper. It is found that the inclusion of Ge improves the crystal quality and reduces the surface roughness.

Performance of a hybrid reactor comprising of trickling filter （TF） and aeration tank （AT） unit was studied for biological treatment of wastewater containing mixture of phenol and m-cresol, using mixed microbial culture. The reactor was operated with hydraulic loading rates （HLR） and phenolics loading rates （PLR） between 0.222-1.078 m3/（m2-day） and 0.900-3.456 kg/（***）, respectively. The efficiency of substrate removal varied between 71%-100% for the range of HLR and PLR studied. The fixed film unit showed better substrate removal efficiency than the aeration tank and was more resistant to substrate inhibition. The kinetic parameters related to both units of the reactor were evaluated and their variation with HLR and PLR were monitored. It revealed the presence of substrate inhibition at high PLR both in TF and AT unit. The biofilm model established the substrate concentration profile within the film by solving differential equation of substrate mass transfer using boundary problem solver tool ＇bvp4c＇ of MATLAB 7. 1 software. Response surface methodology was used to design and optimize the biodegradation process using Design Expert 8 software, where phenol and m-cresol concentrations, residence time were chosen as input variables and percentage of removal was the response. The design of experiment showed that a quadratic model could be fitted best for the present experimental study. Significant interaction of the residence time with the substrate concentrations was observed. The optimized condition for operating the reactor as predicted by the model was 230 mg/L of phenol, 190 mg/L of m-cresol with residence time of 24.82 hr to achieve 99.92% substrate removal.

In this paper, we propose a predator-prey system with a competitor for the prey. The model incorporates a constant prey refuge and predation process follows Holling type II response function. Using the Routh-Hurwitz criterion, the sufficient conditions of locally asymptotically stable of all the equilibria are obtained. Furthermore, global stability of the positive equilibrium is investigated by constructing a suitable Lyapunov function. The occurrence of Hopf-bifurcation of the system is shown at a critical value ＂m＂ and the system can be stabilized by increasing amount of prey refuge. The result includes the sufficient conditions for uniform persistence. Numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate the obtained results and the dependence of the dynamic behavior on the prey refuge.

With the recent advancements of deep learning-based methods in image classification,the requirement of a huge amount of training data is inevitable to avoid overfitting ***,supervised deep learning models require labelled datasets for *** such a huge amount of labelled data requires considerable human effort and *** this scenario,self-supervised models are becoming popular because of their ability to learn even from unlabelled ***,the efficient transfer of knowledge learned by self-supervised models into a target task,is an unsolved *** paper proposes a method for the efficient transfer of know-ledge learned by a self-supervised model,into a target *** such as the number of layers,the number of units in each layer,learning rate,and dropout are automatically tuned in these fully connected(FC)layers using a Bayesian optimization technique called the tree-structured parzen estimator(TPE)approach *** evaluate the performance of the proposed method,state-of-the-art self-supervised models such as SimClr and SWAV are used to extract the learned *** are carried out on the CIFAR-10,CIFAR-100,and Tiny ImageNet *** proposed method outperforms the baseline approach with margins of 2.97%,2.45%,and 0.91%for the CIFAR-100,Tiny ImageNet,and CIFAR-10 datasets,respectively.

A Novel Methodological Approach to Estimate the Impact of Natural Hazard-Induced Disasters on Country/Region-Level Economic Growth

With the increased frequency of extreme weather events and large-scale disasters, extensive societal and economic losses incur every year due to damage of infrastructure and private properties, business disruptions,fatalities, homelessness, and severe health-related issues. In this article, we analyze the economic and disaster data from1970 through 2010 to investigate the impact of disasters on country/region-level economic growth. We leveraged a random parameter modeling approach to develop the growth-econometrics model that identifies risk factors significantly influencing the country/region-level economic growth in the face of natural hazard-induced disasters,while controlling for country/region-and time-specific unobserved heterogeneities. We found that disaster intensity in terms of fatalities and homelessness, and economic characteristics such as openness to trade and a government's consumption share of purchasing power parity(PPP), are the significant risk factors that randomly vary for different countries/regions. Other significant factors found to be significant include population, real gross domestic product(GDP), and investment share of PPP converted GDP per capita. We also found that flood is the most devastating disaster to affect country/region-level economic growth. This growth-econometrics model will help in the policy and decision making of governmentsrelated to the investment needs for pre-and post-disaster risk mitigation and response planning strategies, to better protect nations and minimize disaster-induced economic impacts.
