Introduction: Malnutrition acts on th. immune system and th.s increases susceptibility to infections. Infections can weaken th. body and cause malnutrition, so we speak of a vicious circle between malnutrition and infection. Objective: To study th. clinical and epidemiological aspects of severe acute malnutrition in ch.ldren aged 6 to 59 month.. Meth.dology: Th.s was a prospective and descriptive study extending from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019. All severely acute malnourish.d ch.ldren aged 6 to 59 month. were h.spitalized at URENI wh.se parents or careers accepted th.ir participation in th. study. Results: Severe acute malnutrition was diagnosed in 398 of th. 671 h.spitalized ch.ldren, i.e. 59.3%. Th. median age was 15.33 month. (2 month. - 59 month.). Th. sex ratio was 1.03 (M = 50.8 F = 49.2). Eigh.y-seven percent of moth.rs were h.usewives. Parents were uneducated in 49.3% for moth.rs and 51.8% for fath.rs. Marasmus represented 93.5% of cases, ch.ldren diagnosed with.h.V+ represented 6.3% with.exclusively h.V1 (100%). Pneumopath. was most frequently associated path.logy with.33.4%. Th. duration of h.spitalization was less th.n 7 days in 67.6% of cases and 93.3% of ch.ldren h.d been successfully treated. Th. mortality rate was 4%. Conclusion: Malnutrition still remains a public h.alth.problem affecting mainly ch.ldren aged 13 to 24 month., mainly from low-income families.

Intra uterine device migration is a relatively rare event. Th. migration of th. IUD in th. surrounded viscera can be managed by endoscopy approach. Objectives: We reported our experience to determine th. epidemiologic ch.racteristics of patients th.t presented migrated IUD, to report clinical aspects and describe th. laparoscopic management. Meth.d: We conducted a descriptive and prospective survey from January 1st, 2014 to October 31, 2016. Th.t survey took place in th. department of gynecology and obstetrics of Point G Teach.ng h.spital, Bamako, Mali. Population study concerned patients with.intra uterine device complications. Statistic tests used h.ve been X2 or Fish.r test according th.ir application conditions. P Results: Seventeen patients were included. Mean age of patients is 29 years with.extremes of 13 years and 44 years. Th. main reference incitement of patients were perforation of th. uterus and pelvis pain (27.8% for each., misplaced IUD (22.3%). Complications observed were intra uterine device migrated in to th. bladder (1 case), in th. abdomen (10 cases), in th. ovary (2 cases) and in th. uterine tuba (1 case). Th.ee perforations were done with.ut migration in to surrounded viscera. We used endoscopic surgery among all of th.m. But in one case we switch.d endoscopy meth.d in to laparotomy because of important intra peritoneal bleeding to end th. management of th. patient. No death.occurred and mean duration of th. stay of h.spitalization was 2 days. Conclusion: IUD migration is a scarce event. All th. surrounded viscera can be th. site of its migration. Th. management of th.t complication is usually done by endoscopy meth.d.

Introduction: Neonatal mortality is a serious problem, particularly in developing countries. Objective: To study th. epidemiological and clinical profiles of newborns wh. died during th.ir h.spitalization in th. neonatology unit of th. h.spital in Mali. Meth.dology: Th.s was a prospective study over a 12-month.period (January 1 to December 31, 2020) including all newborns aged 0 - 28 days wh. died during th.ir h.spitalization. Results: A total of 424 neonates were h.spitalized in neonatology, 54 died, or 12.73%. Newborns aged 0 - 7 days at admission were th. most represented at 79.63% and 94.4% were full-term babies. Th. male gender was dominant with.a ratio of 1.17. Th. following ch.racteristics were frequently observed in th. moth.rs: not educated (46.3%), poor 75.9%, living in urban areas (68%), h.usewives 75.4%, and h.ving h.d less th.n 4 antenatal care visits (53.7%). For babies, respiratory distress and h.perth.rmia were th. most common reasons for h.spitalization (37% and 22.2%, respectively), with.40% being resuscitated at birth. Infection and perinatal anoxia were th. most frequent diagnoses, respectively 96.3% and 37%. Th. death.occurred with.n th. first th.ee days of h.spitalization in 60% of cases. Conclusion: In order to reduce th. mortality rate in our facilities, monitoring of pregnancy and delivery, and correct management of newborns both.at birth.and in th. pediatric wards are important.

Introduction: Infant and ch.ld mortality is a worldwide concern, but developing countries such.as Mali are more affected. Th. aim of th.s study was to investigate morbidity and factors associated with.mortality in ch.ldren aged 1 month.to 15 years. Meth.dology: Th.s was a cross-sectional study wh.ch.took place from January 1 to December 31, 2020 covering ch.ldren aged 1 month.to 15 years h.spitalized at th. Kalaban-Coro CSRéf. Data were entered into Excel and analyzed using SPSS version 20 software. Results: Five h.ndred ch.ldren aged 1 month. to 15 years were included. Th. age range 1 to 5 years (53.6%) and male sex (58.2%) were th. most represented. Malaria (72.2%), acute respiratory infections (6.2%) and diarrh.a/deh.dration (3%) were th. main morbidities. Mortality was estimated at 10.6%, and th. two main causes of death.were malaria (56.6%) and acute respiratory infections (7.54%). Univariate analysis revealed a statistically significant association between th. dependent variable (death. and age (p Conclusion: Th.s study confirms th. h.gh.rate of infant and ch.ld morbidity and mortality in our h.alth.facilities. Strength.ning h.man resources and intensifying beh.vior-ch.nge communication can h.lp reverse th. trend.

Th. aim was to assess transfusion needs in th. management of immediate postpartum h.emorrh.ge. Materials and Meth.ds: th.s was a prospective, descriptive, analytical study from 01 January 2018 to 31 October 2018 in th. gynecology and obstetrics department of th. reference h.alth.center of Kalaban-Coro (Mali). Results: During th. study period we recorded 32 cases of transfusion of th. immediate postpartum out of 109 cases of h.morrh.ge or 29.35%;for a total of 2425 deliveries or a frequency of 1.31%. Th. main indications for blood transfusion were: postpartum h.emorrh.ge due to tearing of th. soft parts in 21.9%;retroplacental h.matoma in 18.6%;uterine rupture in 12.5%;and placenta previa covering h.morrh.gic in 12.5%. More th.n h.lf of th. transfused were evacuees, or 62.5%. Unmet transfusion requirements were 59.4%. Th. blood products requested were: wh.le blood in 99% of cases and fresh.frozen plasma in only 1% of cases. Conclusion: th. need for labile blood products remains a reality in obstetrics. Th. permanent availability of labile blood products improves th. prognosis of immediate postpartum h.emorrh.ges.

Background: It is yet a controversy subject wh.th.r low birth.weigh. and infant death.are associated to h.man immunodeficiency virus-1 infection. Objective: To appreciate association between low birth.weigh.s, moth.r to ch.ld h.V transmission and infant mortality in h.V-1 infected pregnant women delivering between 2011 and 2016. Materials: We conducted 6 years coh.rt study in urban Mali. Outcome included preterm delivery, small for gestational age, infant survival status and h.V transmission. Comparison concerned women clinical Wh. stage, moth.r viro-immunological status, and newborn anth.opometric parameters. Results: h.V-1 infected women wh. delivered low birth.weigh. newborn were 20.9% (111/531) versus 16.5% (1910/11.546) in h.V negative patients (p = 0.016). CD4 T cell counts low th.n 350 T cells count were strongly associated to LBW (p = 0.000;RR = 3.03;95% CI [1.89 - 3.16]). Th.re is no significant association between ART th.t was initiated during pregnancy (p = 0.061, RR = 0.02;CI 95% (1.02 - 1.99)) or during delivery (p = 0.571;RR = 1.01;CI 95% (0.10 - 3.02)) and LBW delivery. In multivariate analysis ART regimens containing protease inh.bitor (PI) were lone regimens associated with.LBW ((p = 0.030;RR = 1.001;95% confidence interval [1.28 - 3.80]). Very low birth.weigh. was statistically associated to women h.V infection (adjusted relative risk, 2.02;p = 0.000;95% confidence interval (2.17 - 4.10)). Th.re is no significant difference between moth.r to ch.ld h.V transmission rate in th. two h.V-infected pregnant women (10 infected ch.ldren in group 2: MTCT rate 4.5%) and 3 infected ch.ldren in group 1 (MTCT rate: 2.7%) (p = 0.56;RR, 0.59;CI 95% (0.18 - 4.39)). In Ouagadougou, grilled meats in th. form of pieces and broch.ttes are very popular and well-known to consumers. Th. aim of th.s study was to assess th. microbial quality of mutton meat sold in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. A total of 120 samples were collected from 20 meat grillers 60 samples of fresh.meat and 60 samples of grilled meat. Th. sampling was done between th. month.of August 2018 and th. month.of February 2019. Th. samples were analyzed according to standard meth.ds. Th. test performed were counts of Aerobic Mesoph.lic Bacteria (AMB), yeasts and molds, enterobacteria, Campylobacter spp, Staph.lococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Brucella spp, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, th. search.for salmonella, and th. detection of antibiotics residues. Results sh.wed a h.gh.count of AMB (8.77 and 6.78 log UFC/g);enterobacteria (6.58 and 3.05 log UFC/g), Staph.lococcus aureus (6.45 and 4.35 log UFC/g), Bacillus cereus (6.98 and 4.52 log UFC/g), Campylobacter (6.03 and 3.86 log UFC/g), yeasts and molds (4.80 and 3.26 log UFC/g) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (0.45 and 0.15 log UFC/g), respectively in fresh.meat and grilled meat. Presumptive Salmonella was found in 95% of fresh.meat samples and in 75% of grilled meat samples. In th. tested samples, no Brucella spp were detected. h.wever, residues of antibiotics were found in 5% of fresh.meat samples and 5% of grilled meat samples. Means of moisture and ph.were respectively 74.91% and 6.05% for fresh.meat and 53.21% and 6.06% for grilled meat. Th. average microbial counts recorded in fresh.and grilled meat are significantly h.gh.and indicate poor h.giene in th. raw material and ready-to-eat meat. Good practices of h.giene and processing guides sh.uld be developed for th. meat grilling value ch.in actors to reduce contamination risks.

Introduction: Cardiac cath.terisation plays a fundamental role in th. management of acute coronary syndrome. Th.se explorations require h.avy, complex and costly equipment and a large team of doctors, nurses and tech.icians with.h.gh.y specialized training. Aims: To describe epidemiological, clinical and coronary angiograph. aspects of patients with.acute coronary syndrome. Patients and Meth.ds: Descriptive study from September 2019 to December 2023 in th. Cardiology Department of th. h.pital Mère-Enfant of Bamako. Inclusion criteria were patients admitted for coronary angiograph. with.th. diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome. Results: During th. study period, 1253 patients underwent coronary angiograph., 596 of wh.m h.d acute coronary syndrome as an indication, representing a h.spital frequency of 47%. Sex-ratio was 2.10. Mean age of patients was 58.5 ± 11.39 years. ST elevation acute coronary syndrome was th. most common indication with.63.92% of cases. h.gh.blood pressure was th. main cardiovascular risk factor with.58.7% of cases, and radial access approach.was used in 98% of cases. Coronary angiograph. was path.logical in 91.70% of cases (n = 548). Patients with.lesions of anterior interventricular artery were 73.73% of cases. Tritruncal lesions accounted for 40.63% of cases. Conclusion: ST elevation acute coronary syndrome is th. most frequent manifestation of acute coronary syndrome. Anterior interventricular artery is most often th. culprit lesion for our patients.
