Chronic pancreatitis(CP)is characterized by progressive inflammation and fibrosis of the pancreas that eventually leads to pancreatic exocrine and endocrine *** in the background of CP is very difficult to manage due to high glycemic variability and concomitant *** beta cell loss leading to insulin deficiency is the cardinal mechanism underlying diabetes development in *** cell dysfunction leading to deranged glucagon secretion has been described in different studies using a variety of stimuli in ***,the emerging evidence is varied probably because of dependence on the study procedure,the study population as well as on the stage of the *** mechanism behind islet cell dysfunction in CP is *** intra-islet alpha and beta cell regulation of each other is often ***,secretion of the incretin hormones such as glucagon like peptide-1 and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide is *** significantly contributes to islet cell *** and progressive inflammation with changes in the function of other cells such as islet delta cells and pancreatic polypeptide cells are also implicated in *** addition,the different surgical procedures performed in patients with CP and antihyperglycemic drugs used to treat diabetes associated with CP also affect islet cell ***,different factors such as chronic inflammation,dysregulated incretin axis,surgical interventions and anti-diabetic drugs all affect islet cell function in patients with *** therapies targeting alpha cell function and beta cell regeneration would be useful in the management of pancreatic diabetes in the near future.

BACkGROUND Timely intervention in hip fracture is essential to decrease the risks of perioperative morbidity and ***,limitations of the resources,risk of disease transmission and redirection of medical attention to a more severe infective health problem during coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic period have affected the quality of care even in a surgical *** To compare the 30-d mortality rate and complications of hip fracture patients treated during COVID-19 pandemic and pre-pandemic *** The search of electronic databases on 1st August 2020 revealed 45 studies related to mortality of hip fracture during the COVID-19 pandemic and pre-pandemic *** careful screening,eight studies were eligible for quantitative and qualitative analysis of *** The pooled data of eight studies(n=1586)revealed no significant difference in 30-d mortality rate between the hip fracture patients treated during the pandemic and pre-pandemic periods[9.63%vs 6.33%;odds ratio(OR),0.62;95%CI,0.33,1.17;P=0.14].Even the 30-d mortality rate was not different between COVID-19 non-infected patients who were treated during the pandemic time,and all hip fracture patients treated during the pre-pandemic period(OR,1.03;95%CI,0.61,1.75;P=0.91).A significant difference in mortality rate was observed between COVID-19 positive and COVID-19 negative patients(OR,6.99;95%CI,3.45,14.16;Pk was higher in COVID-19 positive patients compared to COVID-19 negativ

Tea (Camellia sinensis) is one of the most important economic crops. Being perennial in nature, tea plant often experiences natural drought, which affects its growth and productivity. The present investigation was undertaken to understand the mechanism of post-drought stress recovery on rehydration and the effect of nutrients in the recovery process of the selected clones of Camellia sinensis L. (TV-1, TV-20, TV-29 & TV-30). The results demonstrated that decrease in relative water content (RWC), dry mass of leaf and antioxidants like-ascorbate and glutathione in all the tested clones, as a result of imposed water stress, which caused damage was not permanent. Increase in phenolic content with decrease in O2-, H2O2 and lipid peroxidation was indication of the recovery of stress induced oxidative damage following the post stress rehydration. Further, the post drought recovery was enhanced by foliar spray of k, Ca, Mn & B. Differential activities of enzymes like SOD, CAT, POX, GR and PPO in response to foliar spray of nutrients in rehydrated plant improved the recovery process. The present study reveals that the tested nutrients (k, Ca, Mn & B) showed some positive response in influencing growth and antioxidative responses during post drought recovery process, where k and Ca showed comparatively better effect in improving post drought recovery potential in tea plant.

Text Extraction and Enhancement of Binary Images Using Cellular Automata

Text characters embedded in images represent a rich source of information for content-based indexing and retrieval applications. However, these text characters are difficult to be detected and recognized due to their various sizes, grayscale values, and complex backgrounds. Existing methods cannot handle well those texts with different contrast or embedded in a complex image background. In this paper, a set of sequential algorithms for text extraction and enhancement of image using cellular automata are proposed. The image enhancement includes gray level, contrast manipulation, edge detection, and filtering. First, it applies edge detection and uses a threshold to filter out for low-contrast text and simplify complex background of high-contrast text from binary image. The proposed algorithm is simple and easy to use and requires only a sample texture binary image as an input. It generates textures with perceived quality, better than those proposed by earlier published techniques. The performance of our method is demonstrated by presenting experimental results for a set of text based binary images. The quality of thresholding is assessed using the precision and recall analysis of the resultant text in the binary image.

In the present work,free vibration and buckling analyses of sandwich plates with various functionally graded foam cores are carried *** cores are assumed to be made of metal,and three different configurations of the porous distribution in the core layer are taken into *** carry out a comparative study between the distributions of pores in the core foam,the mass of foam in all three cases is kept the *** vibration and buckling behaviors of skew plates are also analyzed as a part of the current *** principle of minimization of potential energy and Hamilton’s principle are used for the derivation of the governing equations,while a C-0 finite element-based higher-order zigzag formulation is developed to solve the free vibration and buckling *** influences of gradation laws,boundary conditions,skew angle and geometry of plates are studied in detail for the dynamic and stability *** is found that both the non-dimensional natural frequency and buckling load decrease with the increase in the thickness of the metal foam cores,while they show an increasing trend as the skew angle of the plate increases.

Diabetes mellitus is the most common cause of Charcot neuropathy affecting foot and ankle. Acute Charcot foot(CF) presents with a red and swollen foot in co-ntrast to the painless deformed one of chronic CF. En-hanced osteoclastogenesis plays a central role in the pathogenesis of acute CF. Many studies have shown elevated levels of bone turnover markers in patients with acute CF confirming it. These findings have led cl-inicians to use anti-resorptive agents [bisphosphonates(BP), calcitonin, and denosumab] along with immobi-lization and offloading in acute CF patients. The ma-ximum evidence among all anti-resorptive agents is available for BPs, although its quality is low. Pamidronate has been shown to reduce the markers of activity of CF like raised skin temperature, pain, edema, and bone turnover markers in the majority of studies. Intravenous BPs are known to cause acute phase reactions leading to flu-like illness following their first infusion, which can be ameliorated by oral acetaminophen. Alendronate is the only oral BP used in these patients. It needs to be taken on an empty stomach with a full glass of water to avoid esophagitis. The side-effects and contraindications to BPs should be kept in mind while treating acute CF patients with them.

EMR2 is an EGF-like module containing mucin-like hormone receptor-2 precursor, a G-protein coupled receptor （G-PCR）. Mutation in EMR2 causes complicated disorders like polycystic kidney disease （PkD）. The structure of EMR2 shows that the fifth domain is comprised of EGF-TM7 helices. Functional assignment of EMR2 by support vector machine （SVM） revealed that along with transporter activity, several novel functions are predicted. A twenty amino acid sequence ＂MGGRVFLVFLAFCVWLTLPG＂ acts as the signal peptide responsible for post- translational transport. Eight amino acids are involved in N-glycosylation sites and two cleavage sites are LeuS17 and SerS18 in EMR2. The residue Arg241 is responsible for interaction with glycosaminoglycan and chondroitin sulfate. On the basis of structure, function and ligand binding sites, competitive EMR2 inhibitors designed may decrease the rate of human diseases like Usher＇s syndrome, bilateral frontoparietal polymicrogyria and PkD.

A Pattern Classification Model for Vowel Data Using Fuzzy Nearest Neighbor

Classification of the patterns is a crucial structure of research and applications. Using fuzzy set theory, classifying the patterns has become of great interest because of its ability to understand the parameters. One of the problemsobserved in the fuzzification of an unknown pattern is that importance is givenonly to the known patterns but not to their features. In contrast, features of thepatterns play an essential role when their respective patterns overlap. In this paper,an optimal fuzzy nearest neighbor model has been introduced in which a fuzzifi-cation process has been carried out for the unknown pattern using k nearest neighbor. With the help of the fuzzification process, the membership matrix has beenformed. In this membership matrix, fuzzification has been carried out of the features of the unknown pattern. Classification results are verified on a completelyllabelled Telugu vowel data set, and the accuracy is compared with the differentmodels and the fuzzy k nearest neighbor algorithm. The proposed model gives84.86% accuracy on 50% training data set and 89.35% accuracy on 80% trainingdata set. The proposed classifier learns well enough with a small amount of training data, resulting in an efficient and faster approach.
