Viscoelastic dampers are now among some of the preferred energy dissipation devices used for passive seismic response *** evaluate the performance of structures installed with viscoelastic dampers,different analytical models have been used to characterize their dynamic force deformation *** fractional derivative models have received favorable attention as they can capture the frequency dependence of the material stiffness and damping properties observed in the tests very ***,accurate analytical procedures are needed to calculate the response of structures with such damper *** paper presents a modal analysis approach,similar to that used for the analysis of linear systems,for solving the equations of inotion with fractional derivative terms for arbitrary forcing functions such as those caused by earthquake induced ground *** uncoupled modal equations still have fractional derivatives,but can be solved by numerical or analytical *** numerical and analytical procedures are *** procedures are then used to calculate the dynamic response of a multi-degree of fleedom shear beam structure excited by ground motions. Numerical results demonstrating the response reducing effect of viscoelastic dampers are also presented.

Livestock rearing and agriculture are the main sources of community-based livelihoods in western *** the rural mid-hills region of Gandaki province,leopards are the top predator and frequently depredate livestock and attack *** patterns of human-leopard conflicts(HLC) in Nepal are poorly known at the provincial and national scales,which are essential to formulating effective conflict mitigation strategies and implementing them in the *** study aims to analyze the spatiotemporal pattern of HLC by applying Maxent modeling to covariates relating to known and registered conflict cases(n=842) collected from Nepalese government *** found that cases of HLC have been increasing significantly over the past five *** also concluded that mid-elevation,south-facing slopes were more susceptible to HLC,but that mean annual temperature was by far the most important predictor of HLC;overall livestock density and proximity to roads were also important,but secondarily *** we found the increase in human fatalities to 2.16/year was significant(pp>0.05).However,we also found an increasing trend in livestock depredation rates for this same five-year period(ppredations occurred,and that goats were the most depredated of all livestock.A total US $86,892.25($17,378.45/year) of economic losses were incurred by communities during this time,with 78.57% of the total value reimbursed as compensatory relief through the government’s relief *** recommend that the use of predator-proof livestock corrals,greater awareness in local communities about wildlife behavior,better animal husbandry and security practices,and a more efficient compensation program,can improve coexistence between leopard populations and human communities in western Nepal.

In the present investigation an attempt has been made to demineralize the Gondwana coal of Gopinathpur top and bottom seams of Mugma mine, Raniganj coalfield, Dhanbad with the help of pseudomonas mendocina strain B6-1. The change in the amount of ash yield and decrease in the concentration of selected minor elements like Na, K, Mn and Ca and environmentally sensitive selected trace elements such as Cd, pb, Se, Ni, Mn, and Zn have been studied as a function of time of bacterial treatment as well as with variation in the bacterial biomass. After 28 days of bacterial treatment there was variable amount of decrease observed in ash yield as well as in the concentration of minor and trace elements. The removal of the elements was further enhanced with the increase in the bacterial biomass from 10 to 25 mg/mL. Due to over exploitation of superior grade coals in the country, the remaining coal resources, available for current use, are inferior in grade and contain high level of impurities and there is ample scope of bio-beneficiation of these coals using bacterial biomass.

Carp polyculture is commonly practiced throughout south Asia,but traditional aquaculture methodsoften lead to low fish yields from ponds in this *** trials were conducted to evaluate the benefitsof adding Nile tilapia and sahar to carp polyculture *** first trial was conducted in 9 earthenponds for 240 *** on-station trial stocked ponds with three separate treatments:a)carp only(C);b)carp+tilapia(C+T);and c)carp+tilapia+sahar(C+T+S).Combined net fish yield at harvest wassignificantly higher in the C+T+S trial(2.58±0.10 t·ha^(-1)·crop^(-1))compared to the C trial(2.01±0.26t·ha^(-1)·crop^(-1)).Additionally,gross margin(output value minus input costs)was significantlyhigher in the C+T+S trial(2357±211 USD/ha)compared to the C trial(1300±316 USD/ha),but notcompared to the C+T trial(1569±177 USD/ha).Next,an on-farm trial was conducted in 12 farmer-managed earthen ponds for 165 *** trial focused on two treatment types:a)C and b)C+T+*** net fish yield at harvest was significantly higher in the C+T+S trial(2.78±0.39 t·ha^(-1)·crop^(-1))compared to the C trial(2.06±0.14 t·ha^(-1)·crop^(-1)).Gross margin was alsosignificantly higher in theC+T+S trial(3219±367 USD/ha)compared to the C trial(1800±250 USD/ha).The use of these alternative species,along with traditional carp,has the ability to increase fish yieldand raise profits in polyculture systems.

There is evidence to suggest that poultry may have a dietary requirement for metabolically available chromium(Cr)that exceeds the amount provided through wheat soybean meal *** objective of the present study was to investigate the effects of dietary supplemental organic Cr from Cr propionate at different dose levels(control=0μg/kg,T1=200μg/kg,T2=400μg/kg)on the growth performance,carcass traits,and meat quality of *** gain and feed intake of each treatment were recorded at the start and after 14,28 and 35 d,and feed conversion ratios(FCR)were calculated ***35 d of age,birds were randomly selected and euthanized for carcass *** of the first trial indicate that both Cr propionate treatments increased final body weight(ppppropionate supplementation improved(ppercentage and breast meat yield increased linearly(pp was significantly higher compared to both Cr propionate supplemented groups(T1&T2).Furthermore,the Cr propionate supplemented T2 group displayed a significantly lower FCR than the control and T1 group(p=0.027).Finally,Cr propionate supplementation increased the dressing percentage compared to control birds(pperiment,Cr propionate supplementation(T1&T2)increased final body weight and decreased FCR compared with the control *** effects were highly significant(pphases of the *** propionate supplementation also increased(ppercentage,breast meat yield,leg and thigh weights compared with the control *** conclusion,growth performance,feed conversion,carcass yield,breast and leg meats of broiler birds can be significantly improved by dietary inclusion of Cr *** pro

New Method for Synthesis of Coatings of Molybdenum, Tungsten, Their Carbides and Composites

In this paper we report, for the first time, a new approach for synthesis of high quality faceted microcrystalline coatings of molybdenum (Mo), tungsten (W), their carbides and composites. These studies are carried out using Hot Filament Chemical Vapor Deposition (HF-CVD) method wherein parent materials (Mo and/or W) are taken in the form of wires (~0.5 mmdia) and are heated to a high temperature (TF ~ 1500 - 2000 C), in ambient of “oxygen (O2) diluted hydrogen (H2) gas”. Due to high filament temperature (TF), a series of pyrolytic reactions take place. Firstly, the gasification of wire material (Mo and/or W) occurs in the form of its oxide. The oxide molecules reach the substrate which is kept underneath the filament assembly. Secondly, molecular hydrogen gets dissociated into atomic hydrogen and subsequently reaches the substrate to react with oxide molecules, finally leading to the precipitation of a pure metal. This method can also be used, in situ, to convert metallic coatings into their carbides and/or composites. The method offers many other attractive features, which can not be rendered by the conventionalCVD/pVDmethods. The results are discussed in terms of temperature induced “Red-ox” reactions.

One of the most important parameters in meteorology is the mean wind proﬁle in the tropical cyclone boundary *** vertical proﬁle of wind speed and wind direction were measured during the period of the Nisarga cyclone from May 31st,2020,to June 5th,2020,using the newly installed phased Array Doppler Sodar system at the Center for Space and Atmospheric Science(CSAS),Sanjay Ghodawat University,Kolhapur(16.74◦N,74.37◦E;near India's western coast).Our analysis revealed that the maximum mean wind speed was 17 m/s on June 3,2020,at 10:00 *** also shows the change in wind direction from southwest to southeast on June 2 and 3,*** high-resolution reanalysis data in the domain,0–25◦N,65–110◦E,during the period from May 31st to June 5th,2020,revealed the variation of the atmospheric pressure of the Nisarga cyclone from 1000 to 1008 hpa,sea surface temperature(SST)between 30◦C and 31◦C,outgoing longwave radiation(OLR)between 100 and 240 Wm-2,wind speed between 3 and 15 m/s,and low values of vertical wind shear(VWS)were observed to the north of Nisarga *** observations may provide more insights for the study of boundary layer turbulence during cyclonic activities.
