An updated classification for the hyper-diverse genus Corydalis(Papaveraceae: Fumarioideae)based on phylogenomic and morphological evidence

The genus Corydalis, with ca. 530 species, has long been considered taxonomically challenging because of its great variability. Previous molecular analyses,based on a few molecular markers and incomplete taxonomic sampling, were clearly inadequate to delimit sections and subgenera. We have performed phylogenetic analyses of Corydalis and related taxa,using 65 shared protein-coding plastid genes from313 accessions(including 280 samples of ca. 226species of Corydalis) and 152 universal low-copy nuclear genes from 296 accessions(including 271samples of Corydalis) covering all 42 previously recognized sections and five independent “series”.Phylogenetic trees were inferred using Bayesian Inference and Maximum Likelihood. Eight selected morphological characters were estimated using ancestral state reconstructions. Results include:(i) of the three subgenera of Corydalis, two are fully supported by both the plastid and nuclear data;the third,subg. Cremnocapnos, is weakly supported by plastid DnA only, whereas in the nuclear data the two included sections form successive outgroups to the rest of the genus;(ii) among all 42 sections and five“series”, 25 sections and one “series” are resolved as monophyletic in both data sets;(iii) the common ancestor of Corydalis is likely to be a perennial plant with a taproot, yellow flowers with a short saccate spur, linear fruits with recurved fruiting pedicels, and seeds with elaiosomes;(iv) we provide a new classification of Corydalis with four subgenera(of which subg. Bipapillatae is here newly described), 39 sections, 16 of which are consistent with the previous classification, 16 sections have been recircumscribed, one section has been reinstated and six new sections are established. Characters associated with lifespan, underground structures, floral spur, fruit and elaiosomes are important for the recognition of subgenera and sections. The break-up tendency of long rod projectiles

A model for the tendency of fragmentation of a long rod projectile subjected to armour components in add-on armours such as reactive armour and active protection systems is presented. The model is based on studies of the interaction between a cylindrical streamlined projectile and moving thin plates(backwards moving like the front plate in a reactive armour panel and forwards moving like the rear plate in a reactive armour panel).The assumption behind the model is that the sliding force, with velocity vslidebetween the projectile and the plate, gives rise to a transverse velocity vtransof the projectile segment it passes, which will deflect the projectile segment. This deflection is assumed to be a major reason for the fractures that can emerge along the projectile. The velocity, geometry and material of the projectile and the plate are of importance for the fragmentation of the projectile and the dimensionless parameterδ? = v trans vslideexpresses how these parameters influence the break-up tendency. Experiments and simulations have verified that the identifiedδ?-parameter predicts an increased amount of fragmentation of the projectile with increasing value of this parameter.

Self-assembling peptide nanofiber hydrogels for central nervous system regeneration

Central nervous system （CnS） presents a complex regeneration problem due to the inability of central neurons to regenerate correct axonal and dendritic connections. However, recent advances in developmental neurobiology, cell signaling, cell-matrix interaction, and biomaterials technologies have forced a reconsideration of CnS regeneration potentials from the viewpoint of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. The applications of a novel tissue regeneration-inducing biomaterial and stem cells are thought to be critical for the mission. The use of peptide nanoflber hydrogels in cell therapy and tissue engineering offers promising perspectives for CnS regeneration. Self-assembling peptide undergo a rapid transformation from liquid to gel upon addition of counterions or pH adjustment, directly integrating with the host tissue. The peptide nanofiber hydrogels have mechanical properties that closely match the native central nervous extracellular matrix, which could enhance axonal growth. Such materials can provide an optimal three dimensional microenvironment for encapsulated cells. These materials can also be tailored with bioactive motifs to modulate the wound environment and enhance regeneration. This review intends to detail the recent status of selfassembling peptide nanoflber hydrogels for CnS regeneration.

A new northern Flank: Sweden and Finland in nATO

On June 282022 Sweden and Finland were invited to join nATO.During a symbolic ceremony at the nATO Madrid Summit,all the central actors gathered in front of the cameras,as if to replicate a“family photo”in mini format:representatives from Sweden,Finland,and Turkey,as well as Secretary General Stoltenberg.The atmosphere was mixed:tense because of the dramatic backdrop of the Summit,relief because of the speedy process that had taken the process further.It was finally happening:Sweden and Finland would join the Atlantic Pact.But how did they get there?Over a few hectic months,two countries strongly associated with neutrality had moved their policies from emphasizing continuity to altering the very foundations of their security.not only nATO critics were taken by surprise.Many nATO supporters were astonished by the rapid pace and the turnaround of the Swedish Social Democratic party.The relatively quick turnaround in Stockholm also meant that questions about the future and the consequences of nATO membership were postponed,not least because the Swedish election campaign put a lid on debate about strategic consequences:what journey awaits in the future and what strategic consequences does a future nATO membership have?This article discusses these questions in the belief that the temporal perspectives are connected:Sweden’s historical collaboration with nATO had significance for the country’s partner relationship,and in turn this influenced how Sweden became a member and what challenges the country faces together with its allies on a new northern flank in Europe.

Earthen architecture in the Iberian Peninsula:a portrait of vulnerability,sustainability and conservation

For more than a decade,a wide range of Spanish case studies,relating especially to rural inner or abandoned sites and areas,have been analysed by the authors as part of diferent research projects linked with traditional and monumen‑tal architecture,conservation strategies and earthen buildings.On one hand the studies have been undertaken in the framework of a project concerning the conservation of rammed earth in the Iberian Peninsula,including criteria,techniques,results and perspectives and,on the other,by a project about the conservation and rehabilitation of tradi‑tional earthen architecture in the Iberian Peninsula,providing guidelines and tools for its sustainable intervention.In all cases the researchers’eforts focused on enhancing new perspectives and opportunities for rural earthen buildings,analysing landscapes,contexts,constructive features,decay and problems.The fnal common aim of this research is to stress these crucial topics to improve tangible or intangible opportunities for conservation strategies.

Application of Tungsten as a De-nO_x Catalyst

Abstract A catalyst for removal of nitrogen oxides, in stationary Sources, requires many kinds of characteristicsfor commercial application. At first, a vanadium pentaoxide based catalyst was used for the nO-nH3-OZreaction because of its high activity at lower temperatures. But it was`later found that this catalyst had prob.lems like a low thermal durability and a high conversion rate of SO: to SO3. On the other hand, tungstentrioxide was well known as a catalyst that has a high thermal durability and a low conversion rate of SOZto SO3 but showed a low activity at appropriate temperature. For these reasons, tungsten trioxide basedcatalysts have not been used in the reaction in most actual plants except for special cases. Further investiga.tions on this catalyst revealed that a catalyst comprising of titania f80 wt%￣ 90 wt%j- tungsten trioxide(5 wt% ￣ 15 wt%j, and vanadium pentaoxide (0,l wt%￣ 5 wt%j, showed a high thermal durability and alow conversion rate of SOZ to SO3 as well as high activity towards the nO-nHrOz reaction.

Fermentation of the Straw Material Paja Brava by the Yeast <i>Pichia stipitis</i>in a Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation Process

Paja Brava is a native South American grass with a high carbohydrate content. In the current work, the potential of using this feedstock for ethanol production using a simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) process with the xylose-fermenting yeast Pichia stipitis (Scheffersomyces stipitis) CBS6054 was investigated. The straw material was subjected to SO2 catalyzed steam pretreatment at 200°C and 5 min residence time, which resulted in a solubilization of pentose sugars (mainly xylose) of 64% with only minor amounts of degradation products. The obtained material, including the pretreatment liquid, was subsequently hydrolyzed and fermented in an SSF process at microaerobic conditions using either a batch or a fed-batch process at a total water-insoluble solids loading of 10%. Overall yields of ethanol based on all available sugars of 0.24 g/g and 0.27 g/g were obtained for batch and fed-batch mode of operation, respectively. The higher yield in the fed-batch process coincided with a higher degree of conversion of the sugars in the liquid medium, in particular of arabinose, for which the conversion was doubled (from 48% to 97%).

Short-term Safety and Efficiency of Cryoablation for Rena Sympathetic Denervation in a Swine Model

Background:Renal sympathetic nerves are involved in the reflective activation of the sympathetic nervous system in circulatory control.Catheter-based renal denervation (RDn) ameliorated treatment-resistant hypertension safely,but 10％-20％ of treated patients are nonresponders to radiofrequency denervation.The purpose of this study was to investigate the safety and efficiency of cryoablation for sympathetic denervation in a swine model and to explore a new way of RDn.Methods:Seven swines randomly assigned to two groups:Renal cryoablation (CR) group and control group.The control group underwent renal angiogram only.The CR group underwent renal angiogram plus bilateral renal cryoablation.Renal angiograms via femoral were performed before denervation,after denervation and prior to the sacrifice to access the diameter of renal arterial and the pressure of aorta abdominalis.Euthanasia of the swine was performed on 28-day to access norepinephrine (nE) changes of the renal cortex and the changes of renal nerves.Results:Cryoablation did not induce severe complications at any time point.There was no significant change in diameter of renal artery.CR reduced systolic blood pressure (BP) from 145.50 ± 9.95 mmHg at baseline to 119.00 ± 14.09 mmHg.There was a slight but insignificant decrease in diastolic BP.The main nerve changes at 28-day consisted of necrosis with perineurial fibrosis at the site of CR exposure in conjunction with the nerve vacuolation.Compared with the control group,renal tissue nE of CR group decreased by 89.85％.Conclusions:Percutaneous catheter-based cryoablation of the renal artery is safe.CR could effectively reduce nE storing in the renal cortex,and the efficiency could be maintained 28-day at least.

随着我国人口老龄化的不断深化,老龄人口及失能人口的赡养成为亟待解决的经济社会问题。本文基于以家庭为单元的保障模式的理念,以陪护者和年长者连结投保型长期护理保险为切入点,建立了一个包含储蓄、消费、家庭护理、护理保险保额等决策变量的两阶段最优决策模型,考虑陪护者和年长者同时决策和先后决策两种决策方式,并从双方效用最大化的角度出发,得到了二者的最佳投保和护理决策。最后基于中国健康与养老追踪调查数据,测算得到了模型的实证解,并研究保费费率和风险规避程度对决策结果的影响。实证分析结果显示,结合实际数据计算出的最优决策变量具有客观性和可行性,本文考虑的连结投保式创新型长期护理保险能够促使投保人做出理性决策,促进长期护理风险的保障和长期护理保险的发展。
