Effect of interface on mid-infrared photothermal response of MoS2 thin film grown by pulsed laser deposition

This study reports on the mid-infrared （mid-IR） photothermal response of multilayer MoS2 thin films grown on crystalline （p-type silicon and c-axis- oriented single crystal sapphire） and amorphous （Si/SiO2 and Si/SiN） substrates by pulsed laser deposition （PLD）. The photothermal response of the MoS2 films is measured as the changes in the resistance of the MoS2 films when irradiated with a mid-IR （7 to 8.2 μm） source. We show that enhancing the temperature coefficient of resistance （TCR） of the MoS2 thin films is possible by controlling the film-substrate interface through a proper choice of substrate and growth conditions. The thin films grown by PLD are characterized using X-ray diffraction, Raman, atomic force microscopy, X-ray photoelectron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The high-resolution transmission electron microscopy （HRTEM） images show that the MoS2 films grow on sapphire substrates in a layer-by-layer manner with misfit dislocations. The layer growth morphology is disrupted when the films are grown on substrates with a diamond cubic structure （e.g., silicon） because of twin growth formation. The growth morphology on amorphous substrates, such as Si/SiO2 or Si/SiN, is very different. The PLD-grown MoS2 films on silicon show higher TCR （-2.9% K^-1 at 296 K）, higher mid-IR sensitivity （△R/R = 5.2%）, and higher responsivity （8.7 V·W^-1） compared to both the PLD-grown films on other substrates and the mechanically exfoliated MoS2 flakes transferred to different substrates.

Prevalence and risks of reproductive tract infections among women of urban slums in North India: A cross-sectional study

Objective:To identify the prevalence,determinants of reproductive tract infection,and healthcare seeking behavior among ever married women of reproductive age residing in an urban slum of Faridabad,Haryana,North ***:This community based cross-sectional study was conducted among ever married women aged between 15 and 49 years insured under employees state insurance scheme and residing in an urban slum of *** random sampling technique was used to interview 149 eligible women using a predesigned structured *** variables included sociodemographic profile,family planning methods,menstrual absorbent usage,and symptoms of reproductive tract *** logistic regression was used to investigate the determinants of reproductive tract ***:Of the women,46.3%had at least one reproductive tract infection or sexually transmitted infection symptom and 28.9%among them sought treatment for the *** discharge,itching(14.1%)and lower abdominal pain(30.2%)were the major symptoms ***-usage of condoms as contraceptive was significantly associated with a higher rate of symptoms(50.4%vs.20.0%).Abortion had a significantly high odds of having reproductive tract infection symptoms(aOR 3.71,95%CI 1.59-8.62;P<0.01).Less frequent change in absorbent during menstruation was also reported to have a higher rate of *** majority of those who took treatment sought it from government or employees state insurance dispensary.2%also went to faith ***:Nearly half of the study population have reproductive tract infection *** and non-usage of condom increase the risk of reproductive tract *** hygiene and condom usage are the significant interventions,which may reduce the prevalence of these symptoms.

A Characterization of Jacobson Radical in Γ-Banach Algebras

Let V1 and V2 be two -Banach algebras and Ri be the right operator Banach algebra and Li be the left operator Banach algebra of Vi(i=1,2). We give a characterization of the Jacobson radical for the projective tensor product V1rV2 in terms of the Jacobson radical for R1rL2. If V1 and V2 are isomorphic, then we show that this characterization can also be given in terms of the Jacobson radical for R2rL1.

Lifshitz Transition Including Many-Body Effects in Bi-Layer Graphene and Change in Stacking Order

We consider the AB-(Bernal) stacking for the bi-layer graphene (BLG) system and assume that a perpendicular electric field is created by the external gates deposited on the BLG surface. In the basis (A1, B2, A2, B1) for the valleyKand the basis (B2, A1, B1, A2) for the valley K′, we show the occurrence of trigonal warping [1], that is, splitting of the energy bands or the density of states on the kx - ky plane into four pockets comprising of the central part and three legs due to a (skew) interlayer hopping between A1 and B2. The hopping between A1 - B2 leads to a concurrent velocity v3 in addition to the Fermi velocity vF. Our noteworthy outcome is that the above-mentioned topological change, referred to as the Lifshitz transition [2, 3], is entirely bias-tunable. Furthermore, the many-body effects, which is known to yield logarithmic renormalizations [4] in the band dispersions of monolayer graphene, is found to have significant effect on the bias-tunability of this transition. We also consider a variant of the system where the A atoms of the two layers are over each other and the B atoms of the layers are displaced with respect to each other. The Fermi energy density of statesfor zero bias corresponds to the inverted sombrero-like structure. The structure is found to get deformed due to the increase in the bias.

Strategies for Decreasing Infant Mortality Rate among the Arab Bedouins of Negev, Israel

The semi-nomadic Bedouins of Negev have undergone a transition to modernization. But due to political reasons many of them still live in unrecognized localities in the state of Israel. They suffer from number of diseases and have a high IMR （infant mortality rate） as compared to Jewish population. This review article aims at discussing different strategies that may be implemented for improving IMR among the Bedouins. Increasing literacy-rate among Bedouin women along with launching newer measures like trained female Bedouin health volunteers, community health-clinics and home-based newborn care may help in reducing IMR. Congenital anomaly among newborns is mostly due to consanguinity. Malnutrition, anemia and accidents were the other important reasons for child mortality. Unrecognized Bedouin habitats are not having the basic amenities for daily living. Poverty does not allow them to spend much on health. Dedicated inter-sectorial coordination and launching newer health programs for Bedouin children may help improve the IMR.

Impact of weather variables on mosquitoes infected with Japanese encephalitis virus in Kurnool district,Andhra Pradesh

Objective:To assess the virus infection in mosquitoes during different seasons and correlated with various climatic ***:The field collected vectors were screened for Japanese encephalitis(JE) virus after dessication using ELISA *** of the positive pools were recorded from Culex tritaeniorhynchus(***) and ***(***) during JE transmission season(winter) and some positive pools were also reported during non JE transmission periods(*** and rainy seasons).Results:The minimum infection rates(MIR) of 1.75 from *** and 0.17 from *** has been reported in the year 2002 at the beginning of the study and the values were found nil at the end of the study(2006) from the study areas of Kurnool ***:From this study it is noted that MTR of *** and *** were modulated by various meteorological *** mosquito vector abundance increases after the monsoon period(winter) and lowest in dry season(summer). Similarly,MIR fluctuated between seasons with higher MIR recorded after monsoon period and lower in the rest of *** of these metrological parameters in JE virus infected mosquitoes is discussed in this paper.

Importance of integrin receptors in the field of pharmaceutical &medical science

Integrin receptors have remained as a key subject of interest in the pharmaceutical industry for the last few years. There are a total of 24 different types of integrin heterodimers. Each of these heterodimers plays important role in various biological processes that are inherent to different pathological conditions. As a result, integrin receptors have been extensively evaluated for their role in therapeutic targeting. There are different classes of inhibitors against integrin receptors and this review provides an overview on different classes of integrin inhibitors that are currently available. A number of review articles have been written on the possible application of integrin receptors in therapeutic targeting. Many of these articles have heavily emphasized on the importance of αvβ3 & αvβ5 receptors as major pharmaceutical target in cancer but little emphasis has been given on the importance of other integrin receptors, such as α5β1, αIIbβ3, α4β7, αvβ6 etc. While this review gives due importance to both αvβ3 & αvβ5 receptors and provides an historical perspective on how these two receptors have evolved as a potential target for cancer, significant emphasis has also been given on the other integrin receptors that have started enjoying the status of important drug target over the course of last few years. Effort has been maintained to discuss briefly on the key physiological basis of their importance as drug target. For example, involvement of αvβ3 in angiogenesis has made it a therapeutic target for the treatment of cancer. At the same time expression of this receptor on the surface of osteoclast has made it a target for the treatment of osteoporosis. Thus, emphasis has been given on discussing the role of the integrin receptors in different disease conditions followed by specific examples of drug molecules that have been trialed against these receptors. Chemotherapy and drug resistance status of malaria parasite in northeast India
