Anopheles stephensi is the main vector of urban malaria in South Asia. Three ecological variants （‘type’, ‘mysorensis’ and ‘intermediate’） of An. stephensi have been reported on the basis of ecology and egg morphology. However, it is unclear if there is any genetic isolation between the three variants. We analyzed the three variants of An. stephensi using eight microsatellite loci and found that large and significant genetic differentiation exists between them （mean FST = 0.393 and mean RST = 0.422）. Pairwise estimates of genetic differentiation between the variants were ‘type’ versus ‘mysorensis’ （mean FsT = 0.411 and mean RST = 0.308）, ‘type’ versus‘intermediate’ （mean FsT = 0.388 and mean RST = 0.518） and ‘intermediate’versus ＇mysorensis＇（mean FST = 0.387 and mean RST = 0.398） and all were statistically significant （P 〈 0.05）. The greater sensitivity of RST in differentiation indicated that mutations and not genetic drift had generated the differences between three variants of An. stephensi. The present study indicated large genetic differentiation and presence of non-significant low level ofgene flow between the three variants （‘type’,‘ mysorensis’ and ‘intermediate’） of An. stephensi.

【目的】斯氏按蚊Anopheles stephensi是亚洲东南部城市人体疟疾的主要媒介,印度12%的疟疾病例由其引起。本实验研究了印度中部Madhya Pradesh地区东北部的疟疾强化控制(EMCP)区和非强化控制(非EMCP)区斯氏按蚊的基因流。在EMCP区,由于采用了各种疟疾防控措施因而疟疾病例首先降低,但是很快回升,说明总的疟疾风险维持稳定。【方法】应用7个微卫星位点,对印度中部Madhya Pradesh地区东北部的4个EMCP区和非EMCP区采集的斯氏按蚊进行基因分型,以分析各种群参数。【结果】发现各标记在所有种群中表现出高度的多态性。在两区间未发现很大的遗传多样性。观察到EMCP区的东部种群(FST=0.0485,RST=0.1112)比非EMCP区的北部种群(FST=0.020,RST=0.0145)具有较高的遗传分化,在EMCP区和非EMCP区之间观察到较高的基因流(12.90,6.16,5.06和2.38)。RST的灵敏度高于FST,说明分化可能是由于突变而非遗传漂变引起的。【结论】本研究表明,在EMCP区和非EMCP区内以及EMCP区和非EMCP区之间存在很高的基因流。基因流水平高以及抗虫性的发展似乎是EMCP区和非EMCP区疟疾病例发生增加的重要原因。

Sexual and reproductive health(SRH) services are crucial for women especially during disasters, to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity from miscarriages, unsafe abortions, and post-abortion complications. This study explored the SRH interventions provided during disaster response. A systematic review was conducted to identify what menstrual regulation(MR), safe abortion(SA), and post-abortion care(PAC) approaches/interventions exist to promote resilience in the health system in disaster settings; what intervention components were most eff ective; and challenges and opportunities to meeting SRH rights. Five electronic databases were searched, resulting in 4194 records. Following the screening process, seven publications were included. The intervention-related information in each publication was assessed based on availability,accessibility, acceptability, and quality. Two SRH approaches/interventions were found. The eff ectiveness of intervention components could not be conducted due to the limited number of relevant studies. Challenges were found at facility and community levels, and opportunities included overcoming them, making MR, SA, and PAC integral to the mitigation phase,and policy change to overcome barriers related to unaff ordability and inaccessibility. Recommendations are provided to encourage research and policy towards improving neglected SRH in disaster settings to realize Sustainable Development Goal 3 and the Global Strategy and Sendai Framework's priority to promote disaster-resilient health systems.

Limnologists have greatly advanced the understanding of indicators of phosphorus(P)-eutrophy in surface waters. Biotic variables such as macro-invertebrates, fish, zooplankton, benthic algae, and diatoms are extensively used for bio-assessment of eutrophy. New concepts highlight the importance of bed-sediment based “response” variables predicting functional shifts during eutrophication. A cross analysis of studies reveals that alkaline phosphatase(ALP), which serves as a proxy of P-deficiency, and also as an indicator of benthic anoxia/hypoxia-driven feedbacks, can be an easy to measure, cost-effective and reliable tool to assess changes in nutrient stoichiometry, trophic status, and ecological functioning at the sediment-water interface. Here, the issues discussed in this paper are highly relevant to explore new domains of research and “response” based ecosystem models for potential eutrophication management decisions. Because ALP is used in molecular cloning and fingerprinting studies, it is suggested that approaches based on the “omics” technologies need to be used to explore more intricate connections to empirically address ALP-P-eutrophy linkages to track eutrophication in freshwater ecosystems.

Improved photocatalytic degradation of organic dye using Ag3PO4/MoS2 nanocomposite

Highly efficient Ag3PO4/MoS2 nanocomposite photocatalyst was synthe- sized using a wet chemical route with a low weight percentage of highly exfoliated MoS2 （0.1 wt.%） and monodispersed Ag3PO4 nanoparticles （-5.4 nm）. The structural and optical properties of the nanocomposite were studied using various characterization techniques, such as XRD, TEM, Raman and absorption spectroscopy. The composite exhibits markedly enhanced photocatalytic activity with a low lamp power （60 W）. Using this composite, a high kinetic rate constant （k） value of 0.244 min^-1 was found. It was observed that -97.6% of dye degrade over the surface of nanocomposite catalyst within 15 min of illumination. The improved photocatalytic activity of Ag3PO4/MoS2 nanocomposite is attributed to the efficient interfacial charge separation, which was supported by the PL results. Large surface area of MoS2 nanosheets incorporated with well dispersed Ag3PO4 nanoparticles further increases charge separation, contributing to enhanced degradation efficiency. A possible mechanism for charge separation is also discussed.

Aim： To investigate antioxidant potential of lupeol/mango pulp extract （MPE） in testosterone induced oxidative stress in prostate of male Swiss albino mice. Methods： Oral treatment of lupeol （1 mg/animal） and MPE （1 mL [20% w/v]/ animal） was given separately to animals along with subcutaneous injection of testosterone （5 mg/kg body weight） consecutively for 15 days. At the end of the study period, the prostate was dissected out for the determination of reactive oxygen species （ROS） levels, lipid peroxidation and antioxidant enzymes status （catalase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione reductase, glutathione-S-transferase）. Results： In testosterone treated animals, increased ROS resulted in depletion of antioxidant enzymes and increase in lipid peroxidation in mouse prostate. However, lupeol/MPE treatment resulted in a decrease in ROS levels with restoration in the levels of lipid peroxidation and antioxidant enzymes. Conclusion： The results of the present study demonstrate that lupeol/MPE are effective in combating oxidative stress-induced cellular injury of mouse prostate. Mango and its constituents, therefore, deserve study as a potential chemopreventive agent against prostate cancer. （Asian J Androl 2008 Mar; 10： 313-318）

This study evaluated the build-back-better considerations in post-disaster recovery,following the devastation of Chipinge and Chimanimani communities by Cyclone Idai-induced floods in *** in 2020,the study assessed the impact of Cyclone Idai-induced floods on communities in Chipinge and Chimanimani Districts of Zimbabwe;evaluated the build-back-better considerations;and analyzed the lessons *** on a qualitative approach and case study design,the study depended on focus group discussions,interviews,and researcher observations to gather data from 85 *** findings indicate that Cyclone Idai-induced floods seriously impacted human lives,infrastructure,and livelihoods of communities that had been living with flood risk and ***-back-better considerations were absent in much of the post-disaster recovery effort to address the cyclone disaster *** are important early lessons for both practitioners and community members to learn from the Cyclone Idai *** lessons still can inform policy and disaster risk reduction practice in the medium and long ***-back-better should be a mandatory objective in the recovery from any disaster *** training is also recommended to improve the disaster knowledge of stakeholders and increase local ability to cope with future disaster events.
