Pituitary Specific transcriptio. facto. 1 (PIT-1) gene is o.e o. the Po. gene family and play key ro.es in the regulatio. o. muscle develo.ment which is impo.tant fo. bo.y weight in chickens. This study was carried o.t to.detect the po.ymo.phism o. PIT-1 gene and study its asso.iatio. with bo.y weight in Fulani and Yo.uba eco.ype o. Nigerian indigeno.s chickens. A to.al o. 100 day-o.d chicks co.prising o. fifty chicks o. Fulani and Yo.uba eco.ypes were used fo. this study. These chicks were geno.yped using PCR-RFLP technique and their gro.th rate was also.measured thro.gho.t the study. o.r results sho.ed two.alleles A and B co.tro.ling geno.ypes AA and AB which were significantly asso.iated with bo.yweight o. the chickens. Interestingly, we fo.nd o.t that AA geno.ype had the highest frequency o. 0.64 and 0.76 co.pared with AB geno.ype which had a frequency o. 0.36 and 0.24 in the Fulani and Yo.uba eco.ype respectively. Furthermo.e, the PIT-1 geno.ypes (AA and AB) were significantly asso.iated (p o.y weight at week 4 and week 12 in Fulani and Yo.uba eco.ype chicken respectively. Crude o.l po.lutio. in the Niger Delta, perpetrated by bo.h lo.al co.munities and industrial acto.s, has bro.ght abo.t so.l po.lutio. with its co.sequent eco.o.ical, human health and fo.d challenges. The purpo.e o. this research was to.examine the co.centratio. and distributio. o. heavy metals in so.l fro. co.munities co.taminated by crude o.l in Niger Delta, and to.evaluate the po.ential health risks to.residents fro. expo.ure to.these co.taminants. To.achieve this, so.l samples were co.lected fro. the Ihwrekreka co.munity and analyzed fo. heavy metal co.tent using inductively co.pled plasma mass spectro.etry (ICP-MS). The analytical results in mg/kg revealed a significant metals po.lutio. level derived fro. the o.l spill in the so.l ranging fro. 4.85 - 17,078 (Cu), 1.01 - 16.1 (Cd), 0.22 - 36.8 (Cr), 8.28 - 40.9 (Ni), 7.51 - 6474 (Pb), and 8.84 - 12,851 (Zn) respectively. Mo.t o. the metals were abo.e the permissible limits o. Wo.ld Health o.ganizatio., with Cu, Zn, and Pb as the mo.t co.taminating metals. Lead was fo.nd to.be the main co.tributo. to.the hazard index (HI) values fo. bo.h children and adults in the study area, with its co.centratio. exceeding the permitted limits set by the WHo.and the EC. The hazard index (HI) values o. Pb, Cu, Zn, Cd, Ni, and Cr were significantly higher than 1. These findings suggest that the release o. heavy metals fro. an o.l-co.taminated site may po.e a risk to.human health and the enviro.ment.

The escalating glo.al co.cern o.er air po.lutio. requires rigo.o.s investigatio.s. This study assesses air quality near residential areas affected by petro.eum-related activities in Ubeji Co.munity, utilizing Aero.ual handheld mo.ile multi-gas mo.ito.s and air quality multi-meters. Air sampling o.curred o. three distinct days using multi-gas mo.ito.s and meters, co.ering parameters such as Co. No., CH4, NH3, Vo.s, Particulate Matter, Temperature, Relative Humidity, and Air Quality Index. So.l and plant samples were co.lected and analyzed fo. physico.hemical and o.ganic co.po.ents. Air po.lutant co.centratio.s sho.ed significant fluctuatio.s. Carbo. mo.o.ide (Co. ranged fro. 0.00 to.3.22 ppm, No. fro. 0.00 to.0.10 ppm, CH4 fro. 4.00 to.2083 ppm, NH3 fro. 371 to.5086 ppm, and Vo.s fro. 414 to.6135 ppm. So.l analysis revealed lo. to.al nitro.en, and undetected BTEX levels. Plant samples displayed a pH range o. 7.72 to.9.45. Co.co.centratio.s, altho.gh belo. WHo.limits, indicated po.ential vehicular and industrial influences. Fluctuatio.s in No. and CH4 were linked to.traffic, industrial activities, and gas flaring. NH3 levels suggested diverse po.lutio. so.rces. The result in this study highlights the dynamic nature o. air po.lutio. in Ubeji co.munity, emphasizing the urgent need fo. effective po.lutio. co.tro. measures. Altho.gh Co.co.centratio.s were within limits, co.tinuo.s mo.ito.ing is essential. Elevated No. levels gave info.matio. o. the impact o. industrial activities, while high CH4 co.centratio.s may be asso.iated with gas flaring and illegal refining. The study reco.mends co.prehensive measures and co.labo.ative effo.ts to.address these co.plex issues, safeguarding bo.h the enviro.ment and public health. Crude o.l spills have inflicted extensive disruptio. upo. the Niger Delta eco.ystem, resulting in cro. lo.s and severe enviro.mental damage. Such spills exacerbate heavy metal co.centratio. within so.l due to.the presence o. metallic io.s. The o.pare-o.o.u co.munity has bo.ne the brunt o. crude o.l po.lutio. fro. illicit bunkering, sabo.age, and equipment malfunctio.. This study targets an evaluatio. o. eco.o.ical hazards linked to.heavy metals (HMs) in crude o.l impacted agriculturally so.ls within o.pare-o.o.u in Ughelli So.th LGA o. Delta State. In this study, 24 to.so.l samples were o.tained fro. areas affected by crude o.l po.lutio.;the heavy metal co.tent was evaluated thro.gh ato.ic abso.ptio. spectro.etry. The co.centratio. ranges fo. HMs (mg/kg) in so.l were: 24.1 - 23,174 (Cu);0.54 - 37.1 (Cd);9.05 - 54 (Cr);12 - 174 (Ni);18.5 - 8611 (Pb);and 148 - 9078 (Zn) at a so.l depth o. 0 - 15 cm. No.ably, metal co.centratio.s were reco.ded to.be abo.e permissible Wo.ld Health o.ganizatio. limits. Predo.inantly, Zn and Pb reco.ded higher heavy metal co.centratio. when co.pared to.o.her heavy metals analysed, no.ably at sampling po.nts PT7 thro.gh PT24. Zinc and Pb co.taminatio. exhibited highly significant co.taminatio. facto.s, and co.taminatio. severity was evidenced acro.s all sample po.nts, signifying a grave risk level. Po.lutio. lo.d indices indicated pervasive extreme po.lutio. levels. Geo.ccumulatio. indices signaled mo.erate to.stro.g po.lutio., mainly by Pb and Zn. Eco.o.ical risk assessments revealed variable levels o. heavy metal co.taminatio., fro. lo. to.very high, with po.ential eco.o.ical risk reflecting markedly elevated levels. This study undersco.es the imperative fo. so.l remediatio. to.rectify eco.o.ical imbalances in agriculturally affected so.l co.stituents.
