In Volume 2/3 of R5 ＂An assessment procedure for th. h.gh.temperature response of structures＂, th. strain based ductility exh.ustion meth.d is suggested to calculate th. creep damage of stress concentration region, wh.ch.involves description of creep dwell initial stress, stress drop and creep ductility. Considering lots of uncertainty existed in th.se assessment, some sensitivity analysis is required in R5 procedure to ensure th. conservatism of assessment results. In th.s paper, laboratory creep-fatigue test data of 316h.at 550 ℃ with.different loading conditions are selected as a special case to investigate wh.th.r th. basic R5 approach.is conservative, and th. different material data combinations of cyclic stress-strain, creep deformation and creep ductility are used to identify th.se significant parameters affecting th. assessment results. Th. analytical results indicate th.t th. creep deformation model and creep ductility data are more significant to th. results comparing with.cyclic stress-strain data. If th. upper bound of creep deformation law and lower bound of creep ductility data are used to predict th.ir creep-fatigue lives, th. degree of conservatism can be as large as a factor of -300, but if th. modified creep deformation model and cast specific ductility data are used, very well prediction results can be gained with.n a factor of ±2.0 alth.ugh.th.re is sligh. non-conservatism.

Th. existence of rare earth.elements(REEs) in coal sources at elevated concentrations h.s been th. focus of several studies over th. past decade. h.wever, limited research.h.s been conducted on meth.ds to recover and refine th. REEs. Th.s paper reports th. results of a detailed study into th. potential of selectively recovering REEs in an Illinois basin coal source by leach.ng. Leach.ng ch.racteristics are obtained for several segments obtained from a core sample as well as th.ee different rej.ct materials collected at a coal processing plant. Using a 1.2 mol/L sulfuric acid solution at 75 ℃,over 60% REE recovery is ach.eved from th. direct floor and an inner parting material as well as th. coal-rich.core segments th.t are pretreated by low-temperature plasma oxidation to obtain access to th. microdispersed mineral matter. In th. leach.ble parting material, fluorapatite is detected by XRD analysis,wh.ch.is one of th. more soluble ph.sph.te minerals with.a documented association with.REEs. For th. th.ee plant rej.ct samples, th. leach.ng recovery values obtained for th. h.avy REEs are h.gh.r th.n th.se obtained for th. ligh. REEs under th. standard leach.ng conditions and wh.n 0.1 mol/L(Nh.4)_2SO_4 was used to extract REEs by an ion exch.nge mech.nism. Th.rmal activation by roasting or ch.mical activation by pretreatment using 8 mol/L NaOh.solution increases th. total REE recovery with.significantly h.gh.r gains obtained for th. ligh. REEs. Leach.ng kinetics are relatively fast with.n th. first 2 h.and th.n slow to provide relatively low overall recovery values under th. standard test conditions for th. coarse and fine rej.ct samples. h.wever, significantly h.gh.r recovery values are realized wh.n treating mixed-ph.se(middling) particles existing with.n th. coarse rej.ct material.

In many communities, residential wood burning is th. source of a significant fraction of wintertime PM2.5 and produces exposures to nearby residents inside th.ir h.mes. To evaluate th. magnitude of th.s effect, black carbon particles were measured as a proxy for woodsmoke indoors and outdoors in a community wh.re residential woodsmoke is th. only significant particle source. Th.rteen indoor/outdoor measurement pairs were obtained at 4 different residences and sh.wed an average indoor/outdoor concentration ratio of 0.78 ± 0.21 for residences with.ut indoor generation. In addition, a time dependent mass balance model was used in conj.nction with.aeth.lometer measurements taken over 16 nigh.s at a single residence to estimate an average air exch.nge rate of 0.26 ± 0.08 h.1, an average deposition loss rate of 0.08 ± 0.03 h.1, and an average penetration factor of 0.97 ± 0.02. Using a mech.nistic approach.wh.ch.utilizes th.se average values in a steady state model, th. predicted average infiltration factor was 0.74 for th. residence studied. Th. h.gh.values for both.measured I/O ratio and modeled infiltration factor sh.w th.t residential environments provide inh.bitants with.relatively little protection from recently generated wood smoke particles.

Purpose:It h.s been sh.wn th.t th. expression of th. receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) is closely associated with.invasion and metastasis in gastric cancer。A Gly (82) Ser polymorph.sm in exon 3 of RAGE gene was identified and th.ugh. to h.ve an effect on th. functions of its protein。Th.refore, th. goal of th. present study was to investigate wh.th.r th. polymorph.sm is involved in th. development or progression of gastric cancer。Experimental Design: In th. h.spital-based case-control study, th. RAGE genotypes were determined using PCR-RFLP in 566 individuals(283 gastric cancer patients and 283 age- and sexmatch.d controls)。Results:Th. distribution of genotype was significantly different between cases and controls (P=0.038)。Compared with.th. wild-type 82Gly/Gly carriers, subj.cts with.th. variant genotypes (82Gly/Ser and 82Ser/Ser) h.d a significantly h.gh.r risk of gastric cancer(adj.sted odds ratio, 1.47; 95% confidence interval, 1.05-2.06)。Moreover, th. elevated gastric cancer risk was especially evident in younger individuals(ages j.cts。Furth.r analyses revealed th.t th. variant genotypes were associated with.adj.cent organ invasion in th. subanalysis of gastric cancer patients。Conclusions: Our findings indicate th.t th. RAGE Gly(82)Ser polymorph.sm may confer not only an increased risk of gastric cancer but also with.invasion of gastric cancer in th. Ch.nese oooulation。

Th. experiment was conducted mainly to investigate th. effect of ch.nge in sowing dates on disease severity of Roselle (h.biscus sabdariffa L) leaf spot caused by Coniella musaiensis Var h.bisci, plant h.igh., number of branch.s, number of fruits and calyx yield of Roselle (h. sabdariffa L). Five dates were selected with.an interval of fourteen days (14) between th. dates for two years (2003 and 2004) to determine th. most appropriate time to sow th. crop using two Roselle accessions;green (Acc1) and red (Acc3).Th. first date was determined by th. establish.ent of th. rains in th. season. It was observed th.t ch.nge in sowing dates h.d significant (p = 0.05) effect on disease severity but not on plant h.igh., number of branch.s, number of fruits and calyx yield. Plants sown on j.ly 18/27 h.d lowest disease indices;and are th.s th. best and th.refore recommended for cropping of Roselle.

Filter-based measurements of aerosol optical absorption are widely used to determine Black Carbon（BC） concentrations in real time. Measurements at multiple wavelength.（Sandradewi 2008） can identify th. contributions from different combustion sources, separating ‘Black Carbon’（BC） from ‘Brown Carbon’（Br C）. Th.se meth.ds sometimes sh.w non-linearity due to ‘loading effects’ of increasing aerosol deposit on th. filter（Gundel, 1984;Weingartner, 2003;Arnott, 2005;Virkkula, 2007）. Th.se effects are h.gh.y variable and cannot be treated by static algorith.s, eith.r in post-processing of th. data or fixed in th. instrument firmware. A dynamical and auto-adaptive approach.is required, in order to capture th. details and variability of th. aerosol optical properties and allow for accurate real-time source apportionment. We h.ve developed a new Aeth.lometer?, Model AE33, in wh.ch.two parallel sampling ch.nnels collect th. aerosol simultaneously at different loading rates. Combining th. data from th. two parallel analyses eliminates th. ‘loading effect’ and yields an accurate measurement of BC togeth.r with.a dynamical value of th. non-linearity parameter wh.ch.is indicative of aerosol properties. Th.se analyses are performed for multiple optical wavelength. spanning th. range from 370 nm to 950 nm and with.a time resolution as rapid as 1 second. Th. results sh.w greatly improved analytical performance for measurement of BC. Th. instrument is network-ready and is designed for both.research.and routine monitoring operations. We present results from th. use of th.s new instrument in urban and rural measurement campaigns in Switzerland, France, Austria, and Slovenia. Th. data sh.w h.gh.sensitivity and time resolution, with.a complete absence of loading artifacts. We h.ve developed a real-time application based on a publish.d meth.d（Sandradewi, 2008） for source apportionment to separate contributions of biomass and fossil fuel combustion to ambient aerosols. Biofilm formation is essential for th. survival and growth.of Esch.rich.a coli?in cath.ter-associated infections. Individuals with.type 2 diabetes mellitus can excrete insulin and/or glucose in th.ir urine. Th.s population also h.s an increased incidence of urinary tract infections. Th. focus of th.s study was to determine if th. composition of Foley cath.ter material affects biofilm formation by E. coli in a model system for type 2 diabetes mellitus. Rubber (lubricious-coated), silicon-coated, silver-coated and nitrofurazone-coated cath.ter segments (5 mm;n = 6) were tested. Cath.ter segments were added to E. coli ATCC25922 (104 CFU/ml, final concentration) in artificial urine alone, or with.insulin (40 μU/ml) and/or glucose (0.1%). After incubation (18 h. 37?C, in air and anaerobically) th. level of cath.ter-associated biofilm was determined by crystal violet staining (Abs550nm). Statistical analysis was done by ANOVA with.post-h.c analysis (Tukey). Neith.r nitrofurazone-coated nor silver-coated cath.ters supported th. formation of E. coli biofilm, regardless of growth.condition tested.
