Based on a single ion model, Hamiltonian of the simplest form about magnetocrystalline anisotropy for Tb3+ ion was solved by using the numerical method. The relation between the stabilization energy, crystal field coefficient B20 and the magnetic exchange interaction was studied as temperature approaches to 0 K. The results show that the stabilization energy contributed by Tb3+ is linear with crystal field coefficient B20 approximately, but it is insensitive to the change of magnetic exchange interaction for the strong magnetic substances such as TbCo5, Tb2Co17 and Tb2Fe14B compounds.

DNA,a genetic material,has been employed in different scientific directions for various biological applications as driven by DNA nanotechnology in the past decades,including tissue regeneration,disease prevention,inflammation inhibition,bioimaging,biosensing,diagnosis,antitumor drug delivery,and *** the rapid progress in DNA nanotechnology,multitudinous DNA nanomaterials have been designed with different shape and size based on the classic Watson–Crick base-pairing for molecular *** DNA materials could functionally change cell biological behaviors,such as cell migration,cell proliferation,cell differentiation,autophagy,and anti-inflammatory *** single-stranded DNAs(ssDNAs)or RNAs with secondary structures via self-pairing,named aptamer,possess the ability of targeting,which are selected by systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment(SELEX)and applied for tumor targeted diagnosis and *** DNA nanomaterials with three-dimensional(3D)nanostructures and stable structures are investigated as drug carrier systems to delivery multiple antitumor medicine or gene therapeutic *** the functional DNA nanostructures have promoted the development of the DNA nanotechnology with innovative designs and preparation strategies,and also proved with great potential in the biological and medical use,there is still a long way to go for the eventual application of DNA materials in real *** in this review,we conducted a comprehensive survey of the structural development history of various DNA nanomaterials,introduced the principles of different DNA nanomaterials,summarized their biological applications in different fields,and discussed the current challenges and further directions that could help to achieve their applications in the future.

Diabetic osteoporosis(DOP)is a significant complication that poses continuous threat to the bone health of patients with diabetes;however,currently,there are no effective treatment *** patients with diabetes,the increased levels of ferroptosis affect the osteogenic commitment and differentiation of bone mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs),leading to significant skeletal *** address this issue,we aimed to target ferroptosis and propose a novel therapeutic approach for the treatment of *** synthesized ferroptosis-suppressing nanoparticles,which could deliver curcumin,a natural compound,to the bone marrow using tetrahedral framework nucleic acid(tFNA).This delivery system demonstrated excellent curcumin bioavailability and stability,as well as synergistic properties with *** in vitro and in vivo experiments revealed that nanoparticles could enhance mitochondrial function by activating the nuclear factor E2-related factor 2(NRF2)/glutathione peroxidase 4(GPX4)pathway,inhibiting ferroptosis,promoting the osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs in the diabetic microenvironment,reducing trabecular loss,and increasing bone *** findings suggest that curcumin-containing DNA tetrahedron-based ferroptosissuppressing nanoparticles have a promising potential for the treatment of DOP and other ferroptosis-related diseases.

Biofilm formation is responsible for numerous chronic infections and represents a serious health *** and the extracellular polysaccharides(EPS)cause biofilms to become adherent,toxic,resistant to antibiotics,and ultimately difficult to *** of EPS synthesis can prevent the formation of bacterial biofilms,reduce their robustness,and promote ***,we have developed a framework nucleic acid delivery system with a tetrahedral *** can easily access bacterial cells and functions by delivering antisense oligonucleotides that target specific *** designed antisense oligonucleotide sequences with multiple targets based on conserved regions of the VicK protein-binding *** delivered to bacterial cells,they significantly decreased EPS synthesis and biofilm *** to existing approaches,this system is highly efficacious because it simultaneously reduces the expression of all targeted genes(gtfBCD,gbpB,ftf).We demonstrate a novel nucleic acid-based nanomaterial with multi-targeted inhibition that has great potential for the treatment of chronic infections caused by biofilms.

Effects of Fe^(2+), Co^(2+) and Ni^(2+) Ions on Biological Methane Production from Residual Heavy Oil

On the basis of single factor tests, the effect of trace elements—Fe2+, Co2+ and Ni2+ ions—on biological methane production from heavy oil was investigated by the response surface method. A three-level Box-Behnken design was employed to study the relationship between the independent variables and the dependent variable by applying initial Fe2+, Co2+ and Ni2+ concentration as the independent variables(factors) and using the methane production after 270 days of cultivation as the dependent variable(response). A prediction model of quadramatic polynomial regression equation was obtained. The results showed that the methane production could be as high as 240.69 μmol after optimization compared with 235.74 μmol obtained under un-optimized condition. Furthermore, the microbial communities before and after biodegradation were analyzed by PCR-DGGE method. The dominant bands were recovered and sequenced. Three strains were obtained; the strain T1 has 97% similarity with Bacillus thermoamylovorans, the strain H3 has 97% similarity with Bacillus thermoamylovorans and the strain H4 has 99% similarity with Bacillus vietnamensis.

Unnecessary exposure to ionizing radiation(IR)often causes acute and chronic oxidative damages to normal cells and organs,leading to serious physiological and even life-threatening ***(AMF)is a validated radioprotectant extensively applied in radiation and chemotherapy medicine,but the short half-life limits its bioavailability and clinical applications,remaining as a great challenge to be *** nanostructures especially the tetrahedral framework nucleic acids(tFNAs)are promising nanocarriers with preeminent biosafety,low biotoxicity,and high transport *** tFNAs also have a relative long-term maintenance for structural stability and excellent endocytosis *** therefore synthesized a tFNA-based delivery system of AMF for multi-organ radioprotection(tFNAs@AMF,also termed nanosuit).By establishing the mice models of accidental total body irradiation(TBI)and radiotherapy model of Lewis lung cancer,we demonstrated that the nanosuit could shield normal cells from IR-induced DNA damage by regulating the molecular biomarkers of anti-apoptosis and anti-oxidative *** the accidental total body irradiation(TBI)mice model,the nanosuit pretreated mice exhibited satisfactory alteration of superoxide dismutase(SOD)activities and malondialdehyde(MDA)contents,and functional recovery of hematopoietic system,reducing IRinduced pathological damages of multi-organ and safeguarding mice from lethal *** importantly,the nanosuit showed a selective radioprotection of the normal organs without interferences of tumor control in the radiotherapy model of Lewis lung *** on a conveniently available DNA tetrahedron-based nanocarrier,this work presents a high-efficiency delivery system of AMF with the prolonged half-life and enhanced radioprotection for *** nanosuit pioneers a promising strategy with great clinical translation potential for radioactivity protection.

With the incidence of different bone diseases increasing, effective therapies are needed that coordinate a combination of various technologies and biological materials. Bone tissue engineering has also been considered as a promising strategy to repair various bone defects. Therefore, different biological materials that can promote stem cell proliferation, migration, and osteoblastic differentiation to accelerate bone tissue regeneration and repair have also become the focus of research in multiple fields. Stem cell therapy, biomaterial scaffolds, and biological growth factors have shown potential for bone tissue engineering; however, off-target effects and cytotoxicity have limited their clinical use. The application of nucleic acids(deoxyribonucleic acid or ribonucleic acid)and nucleic acid analogs(peptide nucleic acids or locked nucleic acids), which are designed based on foreign genes or with special structures, can be taken up by target cells to exert different effects such as modulating protein expression, replacing a missing gene, or targeting specific gens or proteins. Due to some drawbacks, nucleic acids and nucleic acid analogs are combined with various delivery systems to exert enhanced effects, but current studies of these molecules have not yet satisfied clinical requirements. In-depth studies of nucleic acid or nucleic acid analog delivery systems have been performed, with a particular focus on bone tissue regeneration and repair. In this review, we mainly introduce delivery systems for nucleic acids and nucleic acid analogs and their applications in bone repair and regeneration. At the same time, the application of conventional scaffold materials for the delivery of nucleic acids and nucleic acid analogs is also discussed.

Microbial Characterization of Denitrifying Sulfide Removal Sludge Using High-Throughput Amplicon Sequencing Method

The denitrifying sulfide removal(DSR) process has recently been studied extensively from an engineering perspective. However, the importance of microbial communities of this process was generally underestimated. In this study, the microbial community structure of a lab-scale DSR reactor was characterized in order to provide a comprehensive insight into the key microbial groups in DSR system. Results from high-throughput sequencing analysis revealed that the fraction of autotrophic denitrifiers increased from 2.34 % to 10.93% and 44.51% in the DSR system when the influent Na Cl increased from 0 g/L, to 4 g/L and 30 g/L, respectively. On the contrary, the fraction of heterotrophic denitrifiers decreased from 61.74% to 39.57%, and 24.12%, respectively. Azoarcus and Thiobacillus were the main autotrophic denitrifiers, and Thauera was the main hetetrophic denitrifier during the whole process. This study could be useful for better understanding the interaction between autotrophs and heterotrophs in DSR system.

Retrieval,reporting and methodological characteristics for systematic reviews/meta-analyses of animal models:a meta-epidemiological study

The study aimed to analyze the reporting and methodological quality of systematic reviews(SRs)/meta-analyses(mas)of animal models to provide references for later studies and avoid the waste of medical *** and MEDLINE databases were searched from inception to November 2017,with no language *** reviewers selected inclusion dependently and extracted the basic *** manager 5.3,stata 12.0,and SPSS 21 software were used to conduct analyses.A total of 46 SRs/mas were *** results showed that the English databases with high retrieval frequency are PubMed/MEDLINE,EMBASE,and Web of Science.67.31%(31/46)of the articles reported the search strategy in the full text or the appendix.65.22%(30/46)reported the literature screening flow diagram,and only 19.57%(9/46)reported the number of works of literature retrieved in each database.60.87%(28/46)illustrated supplement *** 2 subgroup analyses,it was found that there were no significant differences in the quality of reports of PRISma *** referring to the methodological quality or reporting of PRESS items,SCI was better than that of non-SCI,while there seemed a source of funding to have no significant impact on the methodological quality or the items of *** results of PRESS,AMSTAR 2,and PRISma were correlated,and the correlation between PRISma and AMSTAR 2 was *** results demonstrated that search strategies of animal model SRs/mas are still not enough comprehensive,report specification and methodological quality still need to be *** show users the scientificity and rigor of the study,future research should focus on these various guidelines like PRESS,PRISma,and AMSTAR 2 checklists that have been issued,it can help to increase the value of research and improve the utilization of medical resources.

Shift Invariance Level Comparison of Several Contourlet Transforms and Their Texture Image Retrieval Systems

In this paper, we proposed a metric to measure the shift invariance of the three different contourlet transforms. And then, using the same structure texture image retrieval system which use subband coefficients energy, standard deviation and kurtosis features with Canberra distance, we gave a comparison of their texture description abilities. Experimental results show that contourlet-2.3 texture image retrieval system has almost retrieval rates with non-sub sampled contourlet system;the two systems have better retrieval results than the original contourlet retrieval system. On the other hand, for the relatively lower redundancy, we recommend using contourlet- 2.3 as texture description transform.
