Lipid metabolism disorders would be among the components responsible for the risk of the onset of T2DM and its vascular complications. Apolipoprotein E plays an important role in lipid metabolism. We studied the involvement of the APOE gene in the onset of T2DM and its vascular complications. Clinical and biochemical parameters were assessed in each participant. APOE genotypes were identified by PCR-RFLP. Arterial stiffness was studied using a pOpmetre® which evaluates the pulse wave velocity (ft-PWV). Endothelial dysfunction was studied using an EndoPAT2000® which measures endothelium-dependent vasodilation (RHI). In control subjects, the ε3 allele was associated with an increase in fasting blood glucose (r = 2.36, p = 0.018), and a decrease in LDL cholesterol levels (r = −2.17, p = 0.03), and ε4 was associated with an increase in total cholesterol (r = 2.59, p = 0.01), LDL cholesterol (r = 2.84, p = 0.004), and No-HDL cholesterol (r = 2.74, p = 0.006). In type 2 diabetes subjects, the ε2 was associated with a decrease in diastolic blood pressure (r = −2.25, p = 0.02). The ε3 was associated with a decrease in ft-PWV (r = −2.26, p = 0.024) while the ε4 was associated with an increase in ft-PWV (r = 2.52, p = 0.012). Carrying the ε2ε3 genotype would have in 99% a limited risk of developing T2DM, and in event of T2DM, only 1 to 2% would have a significant risk of developing atherosclerosis, which would be severe in 17%. Of the ε2ε4 genotype, 93% had a limited or even possible risk of developing T2DM, the remaining 7% had a very high risk of developing T2DM. Diabetics carrying ε2ε4 had in 7% very high risk of developing atherosclerosis. The latter had a 20% very high risk of being very severe. Background: Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disease characterized by chronic hyperglycemia. The latter plays an essential role in inflammation by stimulating the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines or by increasing their secretion by an oxidative mechanism. These cytokines control the hepatic synthesis of an inflammatory protein called C-Reactive Protein (CRP). High or average values of CRP would have a predictive value of cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes. The relationship between low CRP values and the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and its cardiovascular complications is not sufficiently studied. The hsCRP could serve as a predictive biomarker of risk of onset, follow-up and prognosis for type 2 diabetes and its cardiovascular complications. To answer this problem, we conducted this study, the aim of which was to study the predictive role of hsCRP in the risk of occurrence of type 2 diabetes and its cardiovascular complications. materials and Methods: This is a prospective and cross-sectional case-control study involving 200 participants including 100 control women and 100 women with type 2 diabetes (mean age was respectively 49.89 years ± 8.26 & 51.92 years ± 7.18;p = 0.066). The interviews were conducted on the basis of a questionnaire. Physical examination collected biometric data and cardiovascular constants. The biochemical parameters such as hsCRP were analyzed by an automated Abbott device. Results: We noted that hsCRP was significantly higher in type 2 diabetic subjects compared to control subjects (p (rho = 0.40, p systolic blood pressure (rho = 0.30, p = 0.003), diastolic blood pressure (rho = 0.28, p = 0.006), total body fat (rho = 0.48, p Conclusion: hsCRP has a prognostic value in the evaluation of cardiovascular risk. Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus, beyond its well-known cardiovascular and neurological complications, is now increasingly recognized as having deleterious effects on bone tissue. It’s thus presented as an independent risk factor for bone fragility with a considerable fracture risk relating to many more or less intricate parameters. The general objective of our study is to assess bone mass during type 2 diabetes in Senegalese women. Methodology: We had carried out a cross-sectional and descriptive study. Socio-demographic characteristics were collected on the basis of a questionnaire. Then each of the subjects had undergone a complete clinical examination followed by a blood sample for a biological assessment of certain cardiovascular risk factors. Bone mass was measured using a bio-impedancemeter. Results: We recruited 88 women with type 2 diabetes and 83 healthy control women. The mean age of diabetic subjects was 52.7 years ± 6.8 (with extremes of 39 and 74 years). In control, the mean age was 51.0 ± 8.5 years (with extremes of 35 and 72 years). Among the diabetic subjects, 22 subjects or 25% practiced a regular walk against 27 (32.5%) in the control. Forty-three among the diabetic subjects (48.8%) were known hypertensive and followed. According to the body mass index, 71 patients (80.7%) were overweight compared to 59 (71.1%) controls. According to the waist size, 80 (90.9%) diabetic subjects had an elevated waist size compared to 69 control women (83.1%). Among diabetic subjects, 41 patients (46.5%) were hyperglycemic imbalance according to fasting blood glucose and 59 patients (67%) according to glycated hemoglobin level. Thirty-seven diabetics (42%), had both high fasting blood glucose and elevated glycated hemoglobin. The mean duration of diabetes was 8.68 ± 7.18 years. We found significantly higher bone mass in type 2 diabetic subjects (p = 0.03). Among diabetics, 27.3% had low bone mass compared to 36.

SnO2-reduced graphene oxide nanoribbons as anodes for lithium ion batteries with enhanced cycling stability

A nanocomposite material of SnO2-reduced graphene oxide nanoribbons has been developed. In this composite, the reduced graphene oxide nanoribbons are uniformly coated by nanosized SnO2 that formed a thin layer of SnO2 on the surface. When used as anodes in lithium ion batteries, the composite shows outstanding electrochemical performance with the high reversible discharge capacity of 1,027 mah/g at 0.1 A/g after 165 cycles and 640 mah/g at 3.0 A/g after 160 cycles with current rates varying from 0.1 to 3.0 A/g and no capacity decay after 600 cycles compared to the second cycle at a current density of 1.0 A/g. The high reversible capacity, good rate performance and excellent cycling stability of the composite are due to the synergistic combination of electrically conductive reduced graphene oxide nanoribbons and SnO2, The method developed here is practical for the large-scale development of anode materials for lithium ion batteries.

Ovarian Pregnancy: A Case Report

Background: Ovarian pregnancy is a rare entity of ectopic pregnancy, with a prevalence in the literature estimated between 1/2500 to 1/5000 births. The majority of ovarian pregnancies are diagnosed in the 1st trimester due to the noisy symptomatology. However, in small proportions, they may continue into the 2nd or 3rd trimester, making their diagnosis more difficult. Aim: We report a case of ovarian pregnancy in a 26-year-old patient, discovered intraoperatively as a large unruptured ovarian mass. Case report: A 26-year-old woman referred to the maternity ward for management of fetal death in utero at 31 weeks of amenorrhea associated with overlying placenta previa. Ultrasound performed in the department, was in favor of an abdominal pregnancy stopped at 31 SA with a placenta that seemed to adhere to the posterior wall of the uterus, which was empty. A Laparotomy was performed, on exploration, a large right ovarian mass was found, the site of the pregnancy. A right adnexectomy, after adhesiolysis, was performed. The incision of the operative part revealed a macerated female fetus. The clinical evolution was favorable. Conclusion: We report on a case of unruptured ovarian pregnancy, discovered in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy. The ultrasound diagnosis of an ovarian pregnancy beyond the 2nd trimester remains a challenge, the management remains surgical.

Confirmatory analysis of the 13‐MD and ranking of its meta‐dimensions and items

Background:The 13‐MD is a new generic instrument developed to measure general health‐related quality of life(GHRQoL).This instrument considers all aspects of health(i.e.,physical,mental,and social)in a balanced way.A previous study led to minor changes in the original version of the 13‐*** objective of this study was to confirm the validity of the modified 13‐***:Validity was assessed with recent data from the general population of Quebec,*** meta‐dimensions and items composing the 13‐MD were also subjected to a ranking procedure,which allowed to determine the most important aspects for ***:A total of 1337 French‐speaking participants were recruited with 1099 completing the 13‐MD for validation purposes and 1084 completing the ranking *** 13‐MD showed very satisfactory results and confirmed to be a valid *** ranking of the meta‐dimensions revealed that“Well‐being”received the most points,followed by“Sleep and energy”and“Body functioning.”Conclusion:These results will be very useful in the continuous improvement of the 13‐MD,ultimately leading to the valuation stage(i.e.,development of a value set).

Three Cases of Plasma Cell Leukemia

Introduction: Plasma cell leukemia (PL) is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder characterized by the monoclonal proliferation of plasma cells in the marrow and blood peripheral. It is defined by a blood plasmacytosis greater than 2 G/l or a plasma cell level greater than 20% of leukocytes. It can be primitive or secondary to multiple myeloma (MM). We reported 3 cases of PL. Observations: Case 1: A 59 years old woman with fever, anemia with 7 g/dl, hyperleukocytosis 9200/mm3, thrombopenia 86 G/l inflammatory biological syndrome with CRP at 129 mg/l, hypercalcemia at 120 mg/l, renal failure with serum creatinine at 35 mg/l, urea at 0.85 g/l and 24-hour proteinuria at 0.98 g/24h. Β2 microglobulin at 10.34 mg/l. The blood smear shows dysmorphic plasma cells at 68% and the bone marrow at 79% of dysmorphic plasma cells. The immunophenotyping of blood cells, the electrophoretic serum protein, shows PL CD38+, secondary of a MM LAMBDA. Case 2: A 65-year-old man with type 2 diabetes presented, right femoral neck, anemia, hyperleukocytosis at 22 G/l, and thrombocytopenia at 99 G/l. There was no hypercalcemia, or kidney failure. The blood smear showed 28% of plasma cells and 9% of blasts. On the myelogram, the marrow was normal richness with significant medullary plasmacytosis (31%) made up of dysmorphic plasma cells. The CT scan showed a settling of the body of D5 with heterogeneous osteocondensation. The patient was transferred to hematology where she was treated with polychemotherapy. The evolution was unfavorable following a death due to malignant hypercalcemia. Case 3: A 62-year-old woman who had a 5-year follow-up of Ig G kappa multiple myeloma was treated with Melphalan, Prednisone, and thalidomide with a therapeutic break for 2 months. She came back to the Internal Medicine department with: severe global dehydration, anemia with externalized bleeding gingivorrhagia, pain in mechanical bones of the ribs, lower limbs, and pelvis, bilateral pneumonia. Investigations into Some Simple Expressions of the Gamma Function in Wind Power Theoretical Estimate by the Weibull Distribution

The Weibull distribution is a probability density function (PDF) which is widely used in the study of meteorological data. The statistical analysis of the wind speed v by using the Weibull distribution leads to the estimate of the mean wind speed , the variance of v around and the mean power density in the wind. The gamma function Γ is involved in those calculations, particularly Γ (1+1/k), Γ (1+2/k) and Γ (1+3/k). The paper reports the use of the Weibull PDF f(v) to estimate the gamma function. The study was performed by looking for the wind speeds related to the maximum values of f(v), v2 f(v) and v3 f(v). As a result, some approximate relationships were obtained for Γ (1+1/k), Γ (1+2/k) and Γ (1+3/k), that use some fitting polynomial functions. Very good agreements were found between the exact and the estimated values of Γ (1+n/k) that can be used for the estimation of the mean wind speed , the variance σ2 of the wind speed v;around the mean speed and the average wind power density.
