To improve several agronomic traits in crisphead lettuce(Lactuca sativa L.)under high-temperature growth conditions,we investigated the correlation among those traits in multiple cultivars and performed genetic mapping of their causal *** a field cultivation test of Empire type(serrated leaf)and Salinas type(wavy leaf)cultivars,Empire type cultivars showed increased tipburn susceptibility and late bolting compared with Salinas type *** attempted genetic mapping of leaf shape and bolting time by ddRAD-seq using the F2 population derived from a cross between‘VI185’(Empire type)and‘ShinanoGreen’(Salinas type).These analyses suggested that both traits are controlled by a single locus in *** of 51 commercial lettuce cultivars with a tightly linked marker(LG5_v8_252.743Mbp)at this locus showed an association between its genotype and the serrated leaf *** further fine mapping and transcriptome analysis,a gene encoding putative CIN-like TCP transcription factor was determined to be a candidate gene at this locus and was designated as *** insertion of retrotransposable element was found in the allele of‘VI185’,and its transcript level in the leaves was lower than that in‘ShinanoGreen’.Because shapes of leaf epidermal cells in‘VI185’were similar to those in the TCP family mutant of Arabidopsis thaliana,the leaf shape phenotype was likely caused by reduced expression of ***,because it is known that the TCP family protein also controls flowering time via interaction with FT in ***,it was highly possible that LsTCP4 gave pleiotropic effects on both leaf shape and bolting time in lettuce.

Recent Advances in X-Ray Structures of Metal-Phenoxyl Radical Complexes

An “experimental” valence state of metal complexes is sometime different from the “formal” oxidation state, especially in the species having redox active ligands. This difference can be seen in biological system, such as iron(IV)-porphyrin π-cation radical in some heme proteins and copper(II)-phenoxyl radical in galactose oxidase (GO). Although structural characterizations of these species by X-ray diffraction methods have been rare due to their stability, some artificial metal-phenoxyl radical complexes have been synthesized and successfully characterized by X-ray crystal structure. In this review, syntheses and X-ray crystal structures of the one-electron oxidized metal-phenolate complexes, metal- phenoxyl radical, and high-valent metal phenolate species are discussed.

Gastric-and intestinal-type marker expression in invasive ductal adenocarcinoma of the pancreas

BACKGROUND:Although invasive ductal adenocarcinoma of the pancreas(PDAC) manifests as a relatively uniform histomorphological feature of the pancreatobiliary type,it may be complicated by metaplastic changes and heterogeneous gastric and intestinal *** study aimed to investigate the complication rate and clinicopathological significance of such heterogeneous ***:Fifty-nine patients who underwent resection of PDAC were examined in this ***,tumors showing high expression(>25%) of the intestinal-type(INT) marker CDX2 were classified as PDAC with *** with high expression(>25%) of the gastric-type(GAS) marker MUC5AC were classified as PDAC with GAS,while those with high expression of both markers were classified as PDAC with INT/*** patients were compared with those with PDAC of the negative group in which neither markers was highly expressed to examine their clinicopathological ***:In the 59 patients,31(52.5%) showed high CDX2 or MUC5AC ***-eight patients(47.5%) belonged to a negative group,11(18.6%) to a PDAC with INT group,15(25.4%) to a PDAC with GAS group,and 5(8.5%) to a PDAC with INT/GAS *** significant differences were observed for age,gender,size,localization,T classification,or prognosis among the four *** the PDAC with GAS group had well differentiated types significantly more than the other groups,the rate of lymph node metastasis in this group was significantly higher(PDAC with GAS:73%;other groups:36%).CONCLUSION:Complications with heterogeneous elements are not uncommon in PDAC,and this should be considered during the diagnosis and treatment of PDAC along with histogenesis of the disease.

Transparent visualization is used in many fields because it can visualize not only the frontal object but also other important objects behind *** in many situations,it would be very important for the 3D structures of the visualized transparent images to be perceived as they are simulated,little is known quantitatively as to how such transparent 3D structures are *** address this question,in the present study,we conducted a psychophysical experiment in which the observers reported the perceived depth magnitude of a transparent object in medical images,presented with a multiview 3D *** the visualization,we employed a stochastic point-based rendering(SPBR)method,which was developed recently as a technique for efficient *** depth of the transparent object was smaller than the simulated *** found,however,that such depth underestimation can be alleviated to some extent by(1)applying luminance gradient inherent in the SPBR method,(2)employing high opacities,and(3)introducing binocular disparity and motion parallax produced by a multi-view 3D display.

Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm of the bile duct(IPNB)is recognized as a precancerous lesion;however,both its pathogenesis and progression remain *** present here a case of IPNB arising from the gallbladder accompanied by bile duct tumor thrombus in a 79-year-old *** resected specimen revealed a tubulopapillary adenoma with no malignant *** case suggests that even in the absence of malignant cells,these tumors can behave as malignant tumors requiring aggressive *** if no malignant cells are present,intraepithelial neoplasms occurring in the ampullopancreatobiliary tract can behave as malignant tumors.
