Open clusters(OCs) are common in the Milky Way, but most of them remain undiscovered. There are numerous techniques, including some machine-learning algorithms, available for the exploration of OCs. However, each method has its limitations and therefore, different approaches to discovering OCs hold significant values. We develop a comprehensive approach method to automatically explore the data space and identify potential OC candidates with relatively reliable membership determination. This approach combines the techniques of Hierarchical Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise, Gaussian mixture model, and a novel cluster member identification technique, color excess constraint. The new method exhibits efficiency in detecting OCs while ensuring precise determination of cluster memberships. Because the main feature of this technique is to add an extra constraint(EC) for the members of cluster candidates using the homogeneity of color excess,compared to typical blind search codes, it is called Blind Search-Extra Constraint(BSEC) method. It is successfully applied to the Gaia Data Release 3, and 83 new OCs are found, whose color–magnitude diagrams(CMDs) are fitted well to the isochrones. In addition, this study reports 621 new OC candidates with discernible main sequence or red giant branch. It is shown that BSEC technique can discard some false negatives of previous works, which takes about three percentage of known clusters. It shows that as an EC, the color excess(or twocolor) constraint is useful for removing fake cluster member stars from the clusters that are identified from the positions and proper motions of stars, and getting more precise CMDs, when differential reddening of member stars of a cluster is not large(e.g., ΔE(GBP-GRP) < 0.5 mag). It makes the CMDs of 15% clusters clearer(in particular for the region near turnoff) and therefore is helpful for CMD and stellar population studies. To the Editor:Atopic dermatitis(AD)is a chronic,relapsing inflammatory dermatosis with impairment of skin barrier function and immune dysfunction that affects both children and adults.It is characterized by eczematous lesions,pruritus,sleep disturbance,and diminished quality of life.Management of mild AD relies on emollients,topical corticosteroids,topical calcineurin inhibitors,and phototherapy,while systemic corticosteroids,immunosuppressive agents,and biologics are used for severe refractory cases.^([1])Systemic corticosteroids and immunosuppressants have many undesirable side effects.Patients with moderate-to-severe AD who do not respond adequately to topical therapies have few effective treatment options.

Yarn-based flexible strain sensors with advantages in wearability and integrability have attracted wide at-tention.However,it is still a big challenge to achieve yarn-based strain sensors with a wide linear strain range,low hysteresis,and durability synchronously that can be used for full range detection of human body motions.Herein,a new structure,double-threaded conductive yarn with rhythmic strain distribu-tion,is reported to markedly widen the linear strain range of microcrack-based stretchable strain sensors.A new method of winding and thermally adhering hot-melt filaments on the surface of the elastic fiber is used to achieve double-threaded yarn(DTY)with rhythmic strain distribution.The proposed strategy,the integration of heterogeneous materials,is reported to significantly reduce the mechanical hysteresis of composite yarns.Rhythmic strain distribution of the DTY during stretching causes multi-level micro-cracks in different regions of the carbon nanotube(CNT)conductive layer deposited on the surface of the DTY.Besides,the sensing performance of DTY-based strain sensor can be adjusted by designing the structural parameters.The final prepared flexible strain sensor has the advantages of a wide linear strain range(100%),great sensitivity(GF=12.43),low hysteresis,rapid response(158 ms),high repeatability(>2000 cycles at 50%strain),and hydrophobicity,etc.The sensor can monitor human motion repeatedly and stably well,and shows great advantages in flexible wearable devices.

High-carbohydrate(HC) diets decrease the intestinal levels of sodium acetate(SA) and sodium butyrate(SB) and impair the gut health of largemouth bass; however, SA and SB have been shown to enhance immunity and improve intestinal health in farmed animals. Thus, the present study was to investigate the effects of dietary SA and SB on HC diet-induced intestinal injury and the potential mechanisms in juvenile largemouth bass. The experiment set five isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets, including a lowcarbohydrate diet(9% starch)(LC), a high carbohydrate diet(18% starch)(HC), and the HC diet supplemented with 2 g/kg SA(HCSA), 2 g/kg SB(HCSB) or a combination of 1 g/kg SA and 1 g/kg SB(HCSASB).The feeding experiment was conducted for 8 weeks. A total of 525 juvenile largemouth bass with an initial body weight of 7.00 ± 0.20 g were used. The results showed that dietary SA and SB improved the weight gain rate and specific growth rate (P<0.05) and ameliorated serum parameters(alkaline phosphatase, acid phosphatase, glutamate transaminase, and glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase)(P<0.05). And, importantly, dietary SA and SB repaired the intestinal barrier by increasing the expression levels of zonula occludens-1, occludin, and claudin-7(P<0.05), reduced HC-induced intestinal damage, and alleviated intestinal inflammation and cell apoptosis by attenuating HC-induced intestinal endoplasmic reticulum stress(P<0.05). Further results revealed that dietary SA and SB reduced HC-induced intestinal fat deposition by inhibiting adipogenesis and promoting lipolysis(P<0.05). In summary, this study demonstrated that dietary SA and SB attenuated HC-induced intestinal damage and reduced excessive intestinal fat deposition in largemouth bass.

Modulation of topological phase transition has been pursued by researchers in both condensed matter and optics research fields,and has been realized in Euclidean systems,such as topological photonic crystals,topological metamaterials,and coupled resonator arrays.However,the spin-controlled topological phase transition in non-Euclidean space has not yet been explored.Here,we propose a non-Euclidean configuration based on Mobius rings,and we demonstrate the spin-controlled transition between the topological edge state and the bulk state.The Mobius ring,which is designed to have an 8πperiod,has a square cross section at the twist beginning and the length/width evolves adiabatically along the loop,accompanied by conversion from transverse electric to transverse magnetic modes resulting from the spin-locked effect.The 8πperiod Mobius rings are used to construct Su–Schrieffer–Heeger configuration,and the configuration can support the topological edge states excited by circularly polarized light,and meanwhile a transition from the topological edge state to the bulk state can be realized by controlling circular polarization.In addition,the spin-controlled topological phase transition in non-Euclidean space is feasible for both Hermitian and non-Hermitian cases in 2D systems.This work provides a new degree of polarization to control topological photonic states based on the spin of Mobius rings and opens a way to tune the topological phase in non-Euclidean space.

The endoplasmic reticulum(ER) is an essential component of the endomembrane system in eukaryotes and plays a crucial role in protein and lipid synthesis, as well as the maintenance of calcium homeostasis. Morphologically, the ER is composed primarily of sheets and tubules. The tubular ER is composed of a network of tubular membrane structures, each with diameters ranging from 30 to 50nanometers. In recent years, there has been in-depth research on the molecular mechanisms of membrane shaping and membrane fusion of the tubular ER. However, there is still limited understanding of the specific physiological functions of the tubular ER. Here, we report a protocol that combines differential centrifugation and immunoprecipitation to specifically enrich microsomes originating from the tubular ER in yeast. The ER tubule-derived microsomes can be further used for proteomic and lipidomic studies or other biochemical analyses.

BACKGROUND Despite sharing similar pathogenic factors,cancer and coronary heart disease(CHD)occur in comparable populations at similar ages and possess similar susceptibility factors.Consequently,it is increasingly commonplace for patients to experience the simultaneous occurrence of cancer and CHD,a trend that is steadily rising.AIM To determine the impacts of continuing care on lung cancer patients with CHD following percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI).METHODS There were 94 lung cancer patients with CHD following PCI who were randomly assigned to the intervention group(n=38)and the control group(n=41).In the intervention group,continuing care was provided,while in the control group,routine care was provided.An evaluation of cardiac and pulmonary function,medication compliance,a 6-min walk test,and patient quality of life was performed.RESULTS Differences between the two groups were significant in left ventricular ejection fraction,6-min walk test,oxygen uptake,quality of life and medication compliance(P<0.05).In comparison with the control group,the enhancement in the intervention group was more significant.The intervention group had more patients with high medication compliance than the control group,with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).CONCLUSION After undergoing PCI,lung patients with CHD could benefit from continued care in terms of cardiac and pulmonary function,medications compliance,and quality of life.

Exploring the correlation between temperature and crime:A case-crossover study of eight cities in America

Recent years have seen increasing academic interest in exploring the correlation between temperature and crime.However,it is uncertain whether similar long-term trends or seasonality(rather than causal effect)of temper-ature and crime is the major reason for the observed correlation between them.To explore whether there is still a correlation between temperature and crime when long-term trends and seasonal cycles are filtered out,we use the Kalman filter to decompose the time series of temperature and crimes,and then the fast Fourier transform is used to calculate the exact circle of their seasonality separately.Based on that,the box-plot method and linear regression are used to explore the correlation between temperature residuals and crime residuals.The results show that more than half of the crime types have similar seasonal cycles(approximately 1 year)to that of temperature.Moreover,the daily residual analyses show that temperature residuals have a positive correlation with assault and robbery residuals in all cities,whose average slopes are more than 0.1.The other four types of crimes vary greatly from case to case.The temperature residuals show a weak correlation with the residuals of some crime types.
