The estimation of the transmission matrix of a disordered medium is a challenging problem in disordered photonics.Usually,its reconstruction relies on a complex inversion that aims at connecting a fully controlled input to the deterministic interference of the light field scrambled by the device.At the moment,iterative phase retrieval protocols provide the fastest reconstructing frameworks,converging in a few tens of iterations.Exploiting the knowledge of speckle correlations,we construct a new phase retrieval algorithm that reduces the computational cost to a single iteration.Besides being faster,our method is practical because it accepts fewer measurements than state-of-the-art protocols.Thanks to reducing computation time by one order of magnitude,our result can be a step forward toward real-time optical imaging that exploits disordered devices.

In this work,we experimentally demonstrate for the first time the spontaneous generation of two-dimensional exciton-polariton X-waves.X-waves belong to the family of localized packets that can sustain their shape without spreading,even in the linear regime.This allows the wavepacket to maintain its shape and size for very low densities and very long times compared to soliton waves,which always necessitate a nonlinearity to compensate the diffusion.Here,we exploit the polariton nonlinearity and uniquely structured dispersion,comprising both positive-and negative-mass curvatures,to trigger an asymmetric four-wave mixing in momentum space.This ultimately enables the self-formation of a spatial X-wave front.Using ultrafast imaging experiments,we observe the early reshaping of the initial Gaussian packet into the X-pulse and its propagation,even for vanishingly small densities.This allows us to outline the crucial effects and parameters that drive the phenomena and to tune the degree of superluminal propagation,which we found to be in close agreement with numerical simulations.

Semiconductor devices are strong competitors in the race for the development of quantum computational systems.In this work,we interface two semiconductor building blocks of different dimensionalities with complementary properties:(1)a quantum dot hosting a single exciton and acting as a nearly ideal single-photon emitter and(2)a quantum well in a 2D microcavity sustaining polaritons,which are known for their strong interactions and unique hydrodynamic properties,including ultrafast real-time monitoring of their propagation and phase mapping.In the present experiment,we can thus observe how the injected single particles propagate and evolve inside the microcavity,giving rise to hydrodynamic features typical of macroscopic systems despite their genuine intrinsic quantum nature.In the presence of a structural defect,we observe the celebrated quantum interference of a single particle that produces fringes reminiscent of wave propagation.While this behavior could be theoretically expected,our imaging of such an interference pattern,together with a measurement of antibunching,constitutes the first demonstration of spatial mapping of the self-interference of a single quantum particle impinging on an obstacle.

We propose theoretically and demonstrate experimentally the generation of light pulses whose polarization varies temporally to cover selected areas of the Poincare´sphere with both tunable swirling speed and total duration(1 ps and 10 ps,respectively,in our implementation).The effect relies on the Rabi oscillations of two polariton polarized fields excited by two counter-polarized and delayed pulses.The superposition of the oscillating fields result in the precession of the Stokes vector of the emitted light while polariton lifetime imbalance results in its drift from a circle of controllable radius on the Poincare´sphere to a single point at long times.The positioning of the initial circle and final point allows to engineer the type of polarization spanning,including a full sweeping of the Poincare´sphere.The universality and simplicity of the scheme should allow for the deployment of time-varying full-Poincare´polarization fields in a variety of platforms,timescales,and regimes.

Mid-high latitude Northern Asia is one of the most vulnerable and sensitive areas to global warming,but relatively less studied previously.We used an ensemble of a regional climate model(RegCM4)projections to assess future changes in surface air temperature,precipitation and Köppen-Trewartha(K-T)climate types in Northern Asia under the 1.5-4℃global warming targets.RegCM4 is driven by five CMIP5 global models over an East Asia domain at a grid spacing of 25 km.Validation of the present day(1986-2005)simulations shows that the ensembles of RegCM4(ensR)and driving GCMs(ensG)reproduce the major characters of the observed temperature,precipitation and K-T climate zones reasonably well.Greater and more realistic spatial detail is found in RegCM4 compared to the driving GCMs.A general warming and overall increases in precipitation are projected over the region,with these changes being more pronounced at higher warming levels.The projected warming by ensR shows different spatial patterns,and is in general lower,compared to ensG in most months of the year,while the percentage increases of precipitation are maximum during the cold months.The future changes in K-T climate zones are characterized by a substantial expansion of Dc(temperature oceanic)and retreat of Ec(sub-arctic continental)over the region,reaching∼20%under the 4℃warming level.The most notable change in climate types in ensR is found over Japan(∼60%),followed by Southern Siberia,Mongolia,and the Korean Peninsula(∼40%).The largest change in the K-T climate types is found when increasing from 2 to 3℃.The results will help to better assess the impacts of climate change and in implementation of appropriate adaptation measures over the region.

Sairme mineral water, one of the famous mineral waters in Georgia, is renowned for its exceptional healing properties. The distinctiveness and therapeutic benefits of the naturally sourced mineral water, known as “Sairme”, stem from its rich array of microelements, notably including iron and manganese. Since 1948, the bottling of Sairme mineral water has been a prominent activity. Named after the Sairme deposit, this mineral water is packaged in various formats to cater to diverse consumer preferences. The bottling process involves transporting the mineral water from wells to the bottling plant through pipelines. Prior to bottling, the mineral water undergoes meticulous processing stages in adherence to current Georgian and international regulations. This process ensures that the concentration of trace elements in the bottled water is minimized, maintaining its purity and quality. Given the importance of preserving the microelements present in bottled mineral water, our research is dedicated to optimizing the technological process. Our objective is to safeguard the valuable microelements while ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety in the final product.

Grooming is an innate behavior that serves multiple purposes and has a dual nature, reflecting both comfort and stress. Auto-grooming, in particular, is highly sensitive to stressors and can be influenced by natural and synthetic anxiolytics. Researchers believe that rodent grooming can be a valuable tool in translational neurobiological studies, specifically focusing on aberrant grooming, such as the syntactic chain of grooming, which can serve as an experimental model for certain human psycho-nervous disorders.

U–Pb LA-ICP-MS geochronology of polygenetic zircons from Beshta and Kamenistaya intrusions(the Greater Caucasus)

The Beshta-Kamenistaya intrusions are located in the Main Range structural zone of the Greater Caucasus.They are composed of tonalitic gneisses that genetically resemble granites of the tholeiitic series of the ophiolitic complexes.The Beshta-Kamenistaya orthogneisses and associated rocks of the nappes differ markedly from those of the Main Range zone.All of them were overthrust to the Main Range zone during the Bretonian orogeny.The age of their protolith and the metamorphism are still not defined.Using the zircon U-Pb LA-ICP-MS dating two age populations of zircons have been distinguished in the rocks of the Beshta-Kamenistaya intrusions.The age of the main population of zircons from orthogneisses is 426-300 Ma.Several age groups can be distinguished in this population.The main group yielded a Concordia age of386.9±1.4 Ma.There are also smaller peaks at 409-405,375-373,and 351 Ma.The oldest ages(426-395 Ma)were detected in the core parts of the complex crystals.We assume that the crystallization of the parental for orthogneisses rocks(tonalities)took place at 410-395 Ma,whereas the Concordia age of 386.9±1.4 Ma and a peak at 375-373 Ma correspond to the metamorphic event.The whole metamorphic cycle,including progressive and regressive stages,occurred between 395 and 370 Ma.Zircons,dated in the Beshta-Kamenistaya intrusion at350 Ma and younger,correspond to the Late Variscan orogeny.Zircons dated 3102-2769 Ma represent xenocrysts captured by the melts during their formation from the ancient rocks in the crystalline basement.

BACKGROUND Masked diastolic hypotension is a new blood pressure(BP)pattern detected by ambulatory blood pressure monitoring(ABPM)in elderly hypertensives.The aim of this study was to relate ABPM and comorbidity in a cohort of fit elderly subjects attending an outpatient hypertension clinic.METHODS Comorbidity was assessed by Charlson comorbidity index(CCI)and CHA_(2)DS_(2)VASc score.All subjects evaluated with ABPM were aged≥65 years.CCI and CHA_(2)DS_(2)VASc score were calculated.Diastolic hypotension was defined as mean am-bulatory diastolic BPder to detect and independent relationship between comorbidity burden and night-time diastolic BPderly patients aged 72.1±5.2 years,men were 93(53.4%).Mean CCI was 0.91±1.14 and mean CHA_(2)DS_(2)VASc score of 2.68±1.22.Subjects with night-time mean diastolic valuesdependently associated with night-time mean diastolic valuesderly fit subjects with masked ***-orbid women appear to have higher risk for low ambulatory BP.

Future changes in tropical cyclone(TC)activity over the western North Pacific(WNP)under the representative concentration pathway RCP4.5 are investigated based on a set of 21 st century climate change simulations over East Asia with the regional climate model RegCM4 driven by five global models.The RegCM4 reproduces the major features of the observed TC activity over the region in the present-day period of 1986-2005,although with the underestimation of the number of TC genesis and intensity.A low number of TCs making landfall over China is also simulated.By the end of the 21st century(2079-98),the annual mean frequency of TC genesis and occurrence is projected to increase over the WNP by16%and 10%,respectively.The increase in frequency of TC occurrence is in good agreement among the simulations,with the largest increase over the ocean surrounding Taiwan Island and to the south of Japan.The TCs tend to be stronger in the future compared to the present-day period of 1986-2005,with a large increase in the frequency of strong TCs.In addition,more TCs landings are projected over most of the China coast,with an increase of~18%over the whole Chinese territory.
