CCL2-2518 A/G and CCR2 190 A/G do not influence the outcome of hepatitis C virus infection in the Spanish population

AIM： To assess whether CCL2 or interactions between this chemokine and its receptor （CCR2） are associated with outcomes of chronic hepatitis C and with responses to antiviral therapy. METHODS： Two hundred and eighty-four patients with chronic hepatitis C and 193 non-infected matched controls were included in this study. Patients were categorized according to their Scheuer score of hepatic fibrosis as F0-F2 （/7 = 202） or F3-F4 （/7 = 82） and according to their response to anti-Hepatitis C virus （HCV） therapy as sustained response （SR, n = 201） or non-sustained response （NSR, n = 98）. Genotyping of the -2518 （A/G） CCL2 was performed using PCR-RFLP, genotyping of the 190 （A/G） CCR2 using a PCR-ARMS system, and genotyping of the rs3138042 （G/A） CCR2 using Taqman probes. RESULTS： Univariate analyses identified 4 parameters （infection duration time, viral genotype, gender and AST levels） that tended to influence fibrosis and 7 parameters （CCL2G, CCL2ACCR2A, viremia levels, fibrosis stage, viral genotype, infection duration time and AST levels） that significantly influenced or tended to influence response to treatment. Multivariate analysis identified gender and AST levels as parameters that independently influenced fibrosis stage and viral genotype and infection duration time were the two parameters that independently influenced response to treatment. CONCLUSION： Our results indicate that the mutations studied in the gene pair CCL2/CCR2 do not play a major role in the outcome and response to treatment for HCV infection in the Spanish population.

The affect of industrial activities on zinc in alluvial Egyptian soil determined using neutron activation analysis

Thirty two surface (0—20 cm) soil samples were collected from different locations in Egypt representing non polluted, moderately and highly polluted soils. The aim of this study was to evaluate total Zn content in alluvial soils of Nile Delta in Egypt by using the delayed neutron activation analysis technique (DNAA), in the irradiation facilities of the first Egyptian research reactor (ET RR 1). The gamma ray spectra were recorded with a hyper pure germanium detection system. The well resolved gamma ray peak at 1116.0 keV was efficiently used for 65 Zn content determination. Zn content in non polluted soil samples ranged between 74.1 and 103.8 ppm with an average of 98.5±5.1 ppm. Zn content in moderately polluted soils ranged between 136.0 and 232.5 ppm with an average of 180.1±32.6 ppm. The highest Zn levels ranging from 240.0 and 733.0 ppm with an average of 410.3±54.4 ppm, were observed in soil samples collected from, either highly polluted agricultural soils exposed to prolonged irrigation with industrial wastewater or surface soil samples from industrial sites.

In this paper, HFEM is proposed to investigate the circular arch problem. Optimal error estimates are derived, some superconvergence results are established, and an asymptotic exactness posteriori error estimator is presented. In contrast with the classical displacement variational method, the optimal convergence rate for displacement is uniform to the small parameter. In contrast with classical mixed finite element methods, our results are free of the strict restriction on h(the mesh size) which is preserved by all the previous papers. Furtheremore we introduce an asymptotic exactness posteriori error estimator based on a global superconvergence result which is discovered in this kind of problem for the first time.

ON SEVERAL NEW METHODS TO POLAR DECOMPOSITION COMPUTATION

In this paper, the polar decomposition of a deformation gradient tensor is analyzed in detail. The four new methods for polar decompositioncomputation are given: (1) the iterated method, (2) the principal invariant's method, (3) the principal rotation axis' s method, (4) the coordinate transformation's method. The iterated method makes it possible to establish the nonlinear finite element method based on polar decomposition. Furthermore, the material time derivatives of the stretch tensor and the rotation tensor are obtained by explicit and simple expressions.

Testing and Modeling of Bituminous Mortar Response

A dynamic shear rheometer （DSR） setup, with a modified test geometry specifically developed for the mortar, was used to conduct time and frequency domain tests. The mortar was composed of a pure bitumen, filler and fine fractions of sand. In the test setup two mounting procedures were compared and the one that delivers better test result repeatability was selected. Test results obtained from frequency domain tests were used to construct a master curve using time-temperature superposition principle （TTS）. Time domain material functions were obtained from the master curve by using frequency-time domain inter-conversion. In this process a series of Kelvin-Voigt element were used. Using material parameters obtained from frequency domain results, creep-recovery tests in time domain were simulated using a Matlab program. Results show a very good agreement with experimentally obtained creep-recovery data.
