THE EVOLUTION OF FIELD DEPLOYABLE fNIR SPECTROSCOPY FROM BENCH TO CLINICAL SETTINGS

In the late 1980s and early 1990s,*** Chance and his colleagues,using picosecond-long laser pulses,spearheaded the development of time-resolved spectroscopy techniques in an effort to obtain quantitative information about the optical characteristics of the *** efforts by Chance and colleagues expedited the translation of near-infrared spectroscopy(NIRS)-based techniques into a neuroimaging modality for various cognitive *** in the early 2000s,*** Chance guided and steered the collaboration with the Optical Brain Imaging team at Drexel University toward the development and application of afield deployable continuous wave functional near-infrared spectroscopy(fNIR)system as a means to monitor cognitive functions,particularly during attention and working memory tasks as well as for complex tasks such as war games and air tra±c control scenarios performed by healthy volunteers under operational ***,these collaborative efforts led to various clinical applications,including traumatic brain injury,depth of anesthesia monitoring,pediatric pain assessment,and braincomputer interface in *** this paper,we introduce how these collaborative studies have made fNIR an excellent candidate for specified clinical and research applications,including repeated cortical neuroimaging,bedside or home monitoring,the elicitation of a positive effect,and protocols requiring ecological *** paper represents a token of our gratitude to *** Chance for his influence and *** this manuscript we show our appreciation by contributing to his commemoration and through our work we will strive to advance thefield of optical brain imaging and promote his legacy.

A review on machinability of carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP)and glass fiber reinforced polymer(GFRP)composite materials

Fiber reinforced polymer(FRP) composite materials are heterogeneous and anisotropic materials that do not exhibit plastic deformation. They have been used in a wide range of contemporary applications particularly in space and aviation,automotive,maritime and manufacturing of sports equipment. Carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP) and glass fiber reinforced polymer(GFRP) composite materials,among other fiber reinforced materials,have been increasingly replacing conventional materials with their excellent strength and low specific weight properties. Their manufacturability in varying combinations with customized strength properties,also their high fatigue,toughness and high temperature wear and oxidation resistance capabilities render these materials an excellent choice in engineering *** the present review study,a literature survey was conducted on the machinability properties and related approaches for CFRP and GFRP composite materials. As in the machining of all anisotropic and heterogeneous materials,failure mechanisms were also reported in the machining of CFRP and GFRP materials with both conventional and modern manufacturing methods and the results of these studies were obtained by use of variance analysis(ANOVA),artificial neural networks(ANN) model,fuzzy inference system(FIS),harmony search(HS) algorithm,genetic algorithm(GA),Taguchi's optimization technique,multi-criteria optimization,analytical modeling,stress analysis,finite elements method(FEM),data analysis,and linear regression technique. Failure mechanisms and surface quality is discussed with the help of optical and scanning electron microscopy,and profilometry. ANOVA,GA,FEM,etc. are used to analyze and generate predictive models.

Pavement roughness(IRI—International Roughness Index values)influence the stability of traffic movements both on intercity roads and urban *** study is to determine the exact locations of critical pavement roughness values that affect traffic motion stability and comfort in city centre highway *** data with 10 m intervals were collected on a 3140 m divided road containing three consecutive signalized intersections in the city centre *** data were analysed using the distance-dependent Mann-Kendall trend analysis method and checkerboard *** sections where roughness is important were determined at a 95%confidence *** results will show where future pavement improvements should be prioritized for municipalities and road maintenance engineers and will form a basis for the urban road management system.

Targeting molecular pathways for the treatment of inherited retinal degeneration

Inherited retinal degeneration is a major cause of incurable blindness characterized by loss of retinal photoreceptor *** retinal degeneration is characterized by high genetic and phenotypic heterogeneity with several genes mutated in patients affected by these genetic *** high genetic heterogeneity of these diseases hampers the development of effective therapeutic interventions for the cure of a large cohort of *** cell demise mechanisms can be envisioned as targets to treat patients regardless the specific *** of these targets is the increase of intracellular calcium ions,that has been detected in several murine models of inherited retinal ***,neurotrophic factors that favor the efflux of calcium ions to concentrations below toxic levels have been identified as promising molecules that should be evaluated as new treatments for retinal ***,we discuss therapeutic options for inherited retinal degeneration and we will focus on neuroprotective approaches,such as the neuroprotective activity of the Pigment epithelium-derived *** characterization of specific targets for neuroprotection opens new perspectives together with many questions that require deep analyses to take advantage of this knowledge and develop new therapeutic *** believe that minimizing cell demise by neuroprotection may represent a promising treatment strategy for retinal degeneration.

Removal of astrazon golden yellow 7GL from colored wastewater using chemically modified clay

Chemically modified clay(CMC) was used as an adsorbent for the removal of Astrazon Golden Yellow 7GL(AGY-7GL), which is a basic dye from wastewater. For this purpose, the chemically modified clay was first characterized by determining zero point of charge(p Hzpc), and using BET, SEM and FTIR. Then effects of operational parameters on adsorption of AGY-7GL were studied in a batch system. The effect of various parameters such as contact time(0-180 min), pH(2-8), temperature(293-323 K), CMC concentration(0.075-0.5 mg/L) and initial AGY-7GL concentration(75-250 mg/L) were investigated on the adsorption efficiency and capacity adsorption of CMC for the removal of AGY-7GL. Thermodynamic and kinetic parameters were calculated from the results of the adsorption experiment. The evaluation of kinetic models shows that this data best fits the pseudo-second-order model. It is determined that the adsorption equilibrium data works very well with the nonlinear Freundlich isotherm model. Thermodynamic parameters such as ?H^0(19.0 k J/mol), ?G^0(-28.8 k J/mol) and ?S^0(0.148 k J/mol) were also determined. According to the experimental results, it is concluded that CMC could be used as an alternative low cost potential adsorbent for the removal of AGY-7GL from wastewater.

Morphometric analysis of facial and cochlear nerves in normal-hearing ears using 3D-CISS

Purpose:The aim of the current study was to establish a normative data set for the morphometric parameters of the facial nevre(FN)and cochlear nevre(CN)according to age and sex in the adult population,using 3-dimensional constructive interference in steady state(3D-CISS)sequence on magnetic resonance ***:We retrospectively analyzed 157 ears of 102 adults with no hearing impairment,facial palsy or Meniere's *** vertical(VD)and horizontal(HD)diameters as well as cross-sectional areas(CSAs)of the FNs and CNs were measured on the parasagittal oblique image created using the axial 3D-CISS sections passing through the internal acoustic *** related the measurement results with side,sex and ***:The mean VD,HD and CSA of the FNs were 1.09±0.18 mm,0.84±0.17 mm,and 0.75±0.27mm^2,respectively,whereas those of the CNs were 1.34±0.17 mm,1±0.15mm and 1.06±0.3mm^2,*** was no statistically significant difference between the morphometric parameters of both the nerves according to side or sex(P>0.05).However,except for the CSA of the FNs among males,we found a statistically significant decrease in all the morphometric parameters of both the nerves with ageing(P<0.05).Conclusion:The normative morphometric data obtained in this study can be beneficial in clinical applications for sensorineural hearing loss,facial palsy and Meniere's disease.

Relationship between perceived social support and post-traumatic growth in coronavirus disease 2019 patients discharged from the hospital

Ex-PRESS implantation for different types of glaucoma

AIM: To evaluate the clinical results, efficacy and safety of Ex-PRESS P200 glaucoma shunt implant in different types of medically uncontrolled glaucoma. METHODS: The study included 31 eyes of 31 patients that were unresponsive to medical antiglaucomatous therapy in whom Ex-PRESS P200 glaucoma shunt implantation was performed. The demographic characteristics of the patients, type of glaucoma, complete ocular examination results, number of antiglaucomatous drugs before and after surgery, early and late complications of surgery, additional surgical and nonsurgical medical interventions, and success rates were investigated from the patients’ files, retrospectively. RESULTS: The mean postoperative follow-up time was 16.4±7.5 mo. The preoperative mean corrected intraocular pressure(IOP) was 28.7±10.3 mm Hg and postoperative mean corrected IOP was 15.3±5.2 mm Hg(P<0.05) at the last visit. The mean IOP reduction was 39.9% when the preoperative and postoperative values of the last visits were compared. The average number of antiglaucomatous drug use decreased from 3.9±0.3 to 1.7±1.7 postoperatively(P<0.05). The use of antiglaucomatous medications at the last visit was more than in other studies in the literature. The most common complication was conjunctival leakage, which was seen in 7 patients. Other early complications were iris touch, intravitreal hemorrhage, hyphema, choroidal effusion, early transient hypotonia and corneal edema. One of the late complications was endophthalmitiswhich was seen in one case 6 mo after the operation, and the other late complication was opacification of the cornea in one patient. Twelve additional surgical operations associated to Ex-PRESS surgery and 3 bleb needling have done. At the last visit, the complete success rate was 32.3% and the qualified success rate was 77.5% in all patients. CONCLUSION: Ex-PRESS P200 glaucoma shunt implantation may be an effective procedure for medically uncontrolled glaucoma with significantly lower use of a
