A new method of primary aluminum extraction from alumina was proposed. The method is based on the new reaction AlI3＋（3/2）Zn=Al＋（3/2）ZnI2. In its turn, the exchange reaction AlCl3＋CaI2→AlI3＋CaCl2 is used to get aluminum iodide from aluminum chloride—the product of alumina carbochlorination. These reactions were studied in laboratory experiments as well as additional reactions, which were needed for the main chemicals recycling： Cl2, ZnI2→Zn, CaCl2→CaI2. XRD and SEM methods were used to investigate the phases and morphology of the reaction＇s solid products. The global free energy minimization method was used for the chemical equation＇s calculations. It was shown that aluminum can be effectively extracted from alumina without electrolysis, extreme high temperature and expended chemicals. The estimated specific carbon consumption and CO2 atmospheric pollution rate have to be halves of such values for the contemporary aluminum plant powered by the coal power station.

Research is devoted to the problem of recycling waste of the Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill, whose activity has caused serious damage to the ecological environment of Lake Baikal and its environs. Grouting waste production is currently the most effective possible decision to the problem of pollutants, such as sludge-lignin and ash, in water objects and groundwater. The results on the grouting of liquid and solid waste from the Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill, represented by sludge lignin and ash, are presented. Cement, liquid glass, colloidal silica, ammonium persulfate, hydrogen peroxide were used as the main hardeners. Samples were formed by mixing the original waste with astringent. The strength in time, shrinkage, resistance to water were studied. Samples formed on the basis of colloidal silica solution have a maximum uniaxial compressive strength of 0.4 - 0.5 MPa, on the basis of liquid glass—0.2 - 0.3 MPa. Adding fine sand increases the strength by 1.5 - 1.7 times. Samples based on ammonium persulfate and hydrogen peroxide do not have sufficient strength. Adding fine quartz sand increases the strength up to 1.0 - 1.2 MPa.

A few-layered graphene was synthesized on the surface of micron-sized copper powder by chemical vapor deposition technique using ethylene as a carbon source in the temperature range from 700 to 940 °C. As a result, we synthesized graphene with 8-12 layers on the surface of copper particles and examined the effect of this material on the mechanical properties of the compacted materials. The copper/graphene composite showed 39% increase in the hardness compared to pure copper. The improvements of 10% and 70% were obtained for the copper composites materials based on graphite and cartbon nanofibers, respectively.

To investigate the initial formation of large-scale vortices at tropical latitudes a regional non-hydrostatic mathematical model of the wind system of the lower atmosphere, developed earlier in the Polar Geophysical Institute, is utilized. Three-dimensional distributions of the atmospheric parameters in the height range from 0 to 15 km over a limited region of the Earth’s surface are produced by the utilized model. Simulations are performed for the case when the limited three-dimensional simulation domain is intersected by an intertropical convergence zone in the west-east direction. Simulation results indicated that the origin of two convexities in the north direction in the configuration of the intertropical convergence zone can lead to the formation of three distinct tropical cyclones during the period of about four days.

为了研究木质部细胞、树木个体和森林群落3个尺度之间的关联,在西伯利亚南部以西伯利亚落叶松(Larix sibirica)和欧洲赤松(Pinus sylvestris)为主的3个采样点37个样地,测量725根树芯的树木年轮宽度,采用系统随机的方法选择其中195个树芯进行管胞大小的测量和计算。结果表明,尽管局地环境和树种组成有所不同,但在树木个体和森林群落两个水平上,管胞大小与树木径向生长的年际变化显著相关。较小的平均管胞尺寸指示更低的年际生长量和更高的年际生长波动。平均管胞大小对半干旱区针叶林生境湿度和森林生长适应性具有指示作用,揭示树木通过调节管胞的大小在生长适应与生长安全性二者间的权衡机制。

Determination of the Lunar Ground Characteristics Using Bistatic Radar

At present, an investigation of the lunar ground at great depths is of paramount importance. This investigation can be carried out using decameter and meter waves. This article aims to analyze the variations of the reflectioncoefficient?at?decametric,?meter and decimeteric bands.?A?possibility of determination?of lunar ground characteristics by bistatic radar using powerful ground-based transmitters?at vHF and UHF bands and a receiver aboard a?Moon’s satellite?is analysed. Appropriate algorithms are considered for determinationof the regolith layer thickness,?dielectric permittivity, loss tangent, and density of the regolith and bedrocks. Expected results of measurements have been presented for a two-layer model of lunar ground, consisting of an upper layer with the loose porous rocks (regolith), and the rocks situated more deeply. Revealed regularities are a basis for determining the distribution of the permittivity in subsurface layer.

＜正＞The main principles, various analytical and statistical models and methods of reliability allocation between subsystems of complex technical system are described. It is shown that the most reasonable method of an optimum reliability allocation seems to be the evaluation of total risk. The statistical processing of experimental data allows to determine the law and distribution parameters of failures for each separate component of a system and to realize the most effective reliability allocation for its components. As an example the reliability allocation of main subsystem for harvester is illustrated.

Maintenance of mitochondrial activity and antioxidant features of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) could be an effective background for treatment of acute myocardial ischemia. Dietary uptake of CoQ10 is limited to only a few percent. In urgent cases, parenteral administration of CoQ10 could provide fast increase of its plasma and myocardial levels. The aim was to evaluate whether a single intravenous (i.v.) injection of solubilized CoQ10 before ischemia/reperfusion (IR) could lead to replenishment of its myocardial levels and limits subsequent myocardial IR injury. Methods: 30 min prior to coronary artery occlusion rats received i.v. solubilized CoQ10 (30 mg/kg) or saline (1 ml/kg). After 30 min of ischemia and 120 min of reperfusion, infarct zone of left ventricle (Lv) and quantity of CoQ10 in Lv were determined. Cardiac rhythm was monitored through the whole experiment. Results: At the beginning of reperfusion, arrhythmias were recorded in 8 (from 9) in saline and 2 (from 9) in CoQ10-treated rats. Arrhythmias in CoQ10-treated rats arose later (40 ± 8 sec) and had less duration (26 ± 14 sec);14 ± 13 sec and 52 ± 17 sec in saline treated rats respectively. At the end of reperfusion CoQ10 treated rats revealed: 2 fold higher CoQ10 content in Lv (p 10 were accompanied by less infarct size (r = ﹣0.77, p i.v. injection of CoQ10 effectively increased its myocardial levels and protected heart against IR injury by diminishing the size of the irreversibly damaged myocardium, decreasing frequency and duration of arrhythmias. The infarct zone inversely correlated with the quantity of CoQ10 in Lv.
