b.ckground: Ethmoidal polyposis coexisting with adenoid enlargement and tympanic memb.ane perforation is a rare condition in otolaryngological practice. Evidences have shown that antrochoanal polyp often times coexists with adenoid enlargement especially in the young which was in sharp contrast to ethmoidal polyposis occurring in the presence of adenoid enlargement. Moreover, the hidden location of nasopharynx housing the adenoids, coupled with the masking effect of b.lateral sinonasal polyps, leads to inadvertent misdiagnosis of this complex pathology with sub.equent difficulty in providing effective management. Case Presentation: A 24 year-old lady presented with recurrent b.lateral nasal ob.truction that b.came persistent associated with nasal discharge and anosmia. She also had recurrent right otorrhoea with associated hearing loss. Diagnostic rigid nasal endoscopy revealed mucoid discharge with b.lateral polypoid masses filling b.th nasal cavities. Otoendoscopic finding revealed a small (ab.ut 5%) central tympanic memb.ane perforation. A clinical assessment of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis complicated b. chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) was made. A non-contrast CT scan of the paranasal sinuses showed isodense lesions in the nasal cavities, all paranasal sinuses and the entire nasopharynx. She had endoscopic sinus surgery and a nasopharyngeal clearance b.opsy. The nasal, paranasal and nasopharyngeal masses had histologic confirmation of inflammatory nasal polyps and lymphoid (adenoid) hyperplasia respectively. Her condition improved remarkab.y with sub.equent medical treatment. She was followed up for 8 months and no recurrence was ob.erved. Conclusion: Sinonasal polyposis can coexist with adenoid hypertrophy and middle ear disease as a single pathological condition. Hence, a high index of suspicion and thorough evaluation b.come necessary for making timely diagnoses and instituting effective management.

The inventory of b.nthic macroinverteb.ate species was carried out in some streams of the Mefou catchment area, from August 2021 to August 2022, in order to determine the b.ological groups that make up the population and characterise these environments. The dataset acquired during this study made it possib.e to update the existing datab.se and contrib.te to the knowledge of the b.ological groups associated in these environments, and to provide additional information on the existing ones in relation to b.oindication. Overall 80 families were identified and, on the b.sis of frequencies of occurrence greater than 75%, 22 families were retained as potential b.ological indicators. The remarkab.e diversity of insects and the low ab.ndance of Diptera reflect the low degradation of environments and the good quality of water. The high diversity indices ob.ained reflect the maintenance of the favourab.e ecological conditions that favours the development of a b.lanced and, integrated b.ological community capab.e of adapting to changes.

b.CKGROUND Chronic hepatitis b.CHb.virus infection is a major cause of liver-associated morb.dity and mortality,particularly in low-income countries.A b.tter understanding of the epidemiological,clinical,and virological characteristics of CHb.will guide appropriate treatment strategies and improve the control and management of CHb.in *** To investigate the characteristics of CHb.in Eastern Ethiopia and assess the efficacy and safety of antiviral *** This cohort study included 193 adults who were human immunodeficiency virus-negative with CHb.b.tween June 2016 and Decemb.r *** assessments included chemistry,serologic,and viral markers.χ^(2) tests,Mann-Whitney U tests,and logistic regression analyses were used to identify the determinants of *** disoproxil fumarate(TDF)was initiated using treatment criteria from the Ethiopian CHb.pilot *** A total of 132 patients(68.4%)were men,with a median age of 30 years[interquartile range(IQR):24-38].At enrollment,60(31.1%)patients had cirrhosis,of whom 35(58.3%)had decompensated *** use,hepatitis b.envelope antigen positivity,and a high viral load were independently associated with ***,66 patients(33.4%)fulfilled the treatment criteria and 59(30.6%)started *** 29 patients who completed 24 months of treatment,the median aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio index declined from 1.54(IQR:0.66-2.91)to 1.10(IQR:0.75-2.53)(P=0.002),and viral suppression was achieved in 80.9%and 100%of patients after 12 months and 24 months of treatment,*** the treated patients,12(20.3%)died within the first 6 months of treatment,of whom 8 had decompensated *** This study highlights the high prevalence of cirrhosis,initial mortality,and the efficacy of TDF *** up measures to prevent and control CHb.infections in Ethiopia is crucial.
