The three-phase dual active bridge(3 p-DAB)converter is widely considered in next-generation DC grid *** for traditional AC grids,the successful integration of power electronic converters in DC grids requires accurate time-domain system-level *** demonstrated in the existing literature,the development and efficient implementation of large-signal models of 3 pDAB converters are not *** this paper,a generalized average model is developed,which enables system-level simulation of DC grids with 3 p-DAB converters in electromagnetic transient type(EMT-type)*** proposed model is rigorously compared with alternative modeling techniques:ideal-model,switching-function and state-space *** is concluded that the generalized average model provides an optimal solution when accuracy of transient response,reduction in computation time,and wideband response factors are considered.

We investigate the validity of stationary simulations for semiconductor quantum charge transport in a one-dimensional resonant tunneling diode via fluid type *** numerical investigations to a quantum hydrodynamic model reveal that the transient simulations do not always converge to the steady *** particular,growing oscillations are observed at relatively large applied voltage.A dynamical bifurcation is responsible for the stability interchange of the steady *** and stationary computations are also performed for a unipolar quantum drift-diffusion model.

Medical diagnosis software and computer-assisted surgical systems often use segmented image data to help clinicians make decisions. The segmentation extracts the region of interest from the background, which makes the visualization clearer. However, no segmentation method can guarantee accurate results under all circumstances. As a result, the clinicians need a solution that enables them to check and validate the segmentation accuracy as well as displaying the segmented area without ambiguities. With the method presented in this paper, the real CT or MR image is displayed within the segmented region and the segmented boundaries can be expanded or contracted interactively. By this way, the clinicians are able to check and validate the segmentation visually and make more reliable decisions. After experiments with real data from a hospital, the presented method is proved to be suitable for efficiently detecting segmentation errors. The new algorithm uses new graphic processing uint （GPU） shading functions recently introduced in graphic cards and is fast enough to interact oil the segmented area, which was not possible with previous methods.

Energy geostructures(EGs)employ heat exchangers embedded in concrete geostructures,such as piles,walls,tunnels,and *** this study,energy walls(EWs)are studied with an emphasis on the following objectives:(1)to understand the fundamentals of hydrothermal interactions acting in the vicinity of EWs caused by groundwater seepage in saturated soil;(2)to highlight hydraulically induced thermal effects and their consequences on the thermal performance of *** three-dimensional hydrothermal finite element analyses are performed considering two groundwater flow conditions:perpendicular and parallel to the *** thermal activation of the geostructure locally modifies the flownet with respect to the non-isothermal case because of the temperature dependency of the water *** interactions between seepage directions and thermal activation are *** thermal interactions are detected within the heat *** thermal behavior of EGs is highly affected by an incorrect evaluation of the hydraulically induced thermal effects,which may result in an overestimation of the thermal ***,an efficient thermal design,which considers such interactions,may increase the thermal potential of EGs.

To the Editor:The original technique of liver transplantation(LT)described by Starzl in 1963 included the removal of the recipient inferior vena cava(IVC)with use of extracorporeal veno-venous bypass(VVB).Since then,the majority of transplant centres evolved towards an IVC sparing hepatectomy with or without temporary porto-caval shunting(PCSh)[1].

Ischemic preconditioning(IPC)is an attractive method for athletes owing to its potential to enhance exercise ***,the effectiveness of the IPC intervention in the field of sports science remains *** number of cycles of ischemia and reperfusion,as well as the duration of the cycle,varies from one study to another;Thus,the aim of this systematic review was to provide a comprehensive review examining the IPC literature in sports science.A systematic literature search was performed in PubMed(MEDLINE)(from 1946 to May 2018),Web of Science(sport sciences)(from 1945 to May 2018),and EMBASE(from 1974 to May 2018).We included all studies investigating the effects of IPC on exercise performance in human *** assess scientific evidence for each study,this review was conducted following the Preferred reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses *** electronic database search generated 441 potential articles that were screened for eligibility.A total of 52 studies were identified as eligible and valid for this systematic *** studies included were of high quality,with 48 of the 52 studies having a ran?domized,controlled trial *** studied showed that IPC intervention can be beneficial to exercise ***,IPC intervention seems to be more beneficial to healthy subjects who wish to enhance their performance in aerobic exercises than ***,this systematic review highlights that a better knowledge of the mechanisms generated by the IPC intervention would make it possible to optimize the protocols according to the characteristics of the subjects with the aim of suggesting to the subjects the best possible experience of IPC intervention.

The sizes of Astyanax mexicanus blind cavefish populations of North-East Mexico are demographic parameters of great importance for investigating a variety of ecological,evolutionary,and conservation ***,few estimates have been *** these mobile animals living in an environment difficult to explore as a whole,methods based on capture-mark-recapture are appropriate,but their feasibility and interpretation of results depend on several assumptions that must be carefully ***,we provide evidence that minimally invasive genetic identification from captures at different time intervals(three days and three years)can give insights into cavefish population size dynamics as well as other important demographic parameters of *** also provide tools to calibrate sampling and genotyping efforts necessary to reach a given level of *** results suggest that the El Pachón cave population is currently very small,of an order of magnitude of a few hundreds of individuals,and is distributed in a relatively isolated *** probable decline in population size in the El Pachón cave since the last census in 1971 raises serious conservation issues.
