Petrographical and geochemical signatures of Jurassic rocks of Chari Formation, Western India： implications for provenance and tectonic setting

members The sandstones of the Ridge and Athleta of Chari Formation （Callovian-Oxfordian） exposed at Jara have been analyzed for their petrographical and geochemical studies. Texturally, these sandstones are medium to coarse grained, poorly to well sorted, sub-an- gular to sub-rounded, and show low to medium sphericity. These sandstones were derived from a mixed provenance including granites, granite-gneisses, low and high-grade metamorphic, and some basic rocks of Aravalli range and Nagarparkar massif. The petrofacies analysis reveals that these sandstones belong to the continental block and recycled orogen tectonic regime. The studied sandstones are modified by paleoclimate, distance of transport, and diagenesis. Mineralogically and geochemically, sandstones are classified as quartzarenite, subarkose, arkose, sublithic arenite, and wacke, respectively. The A-CN-K ternary plot and CIA, CIW, PIA, and ICV values suggest that the similar source rocks suffered moderate to high chemical weathering under a hot-humid climate in an acidic envi- ronment with higher Pco2. Generally good to strong cor- relations between AI2O3 and other oxides in these sediments indicate clay mineral control. The K2O/Na2O versus SiO2 diagram indicates that the studied samples occupy passive margin fields but the SiO2/A12O3 versus K2O/Na20 plot suggests that the Athleta Sandstone and Ridge Sandstone fall within the passive margin field, while Ridge Shale falls within the active continental margin field.

Background and Aims:Multiple non-invasive methods including radiological,anthropometric and biochemical markers have been reported with variable *** present study assessed glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1C)as a biomarker to predict non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)and its severity,compared with body mass index(BMI),waist to hip ratio(WHR)and waist circumference(WC)Methods:This case control study included 450 individuals,including 150 cases and 300 age-and gender-matched controls recruited from the Dow Radiology Institute on the basis of radiological findings of fatty infiltration on abdominal ultrasound through convenient ***,WHR and WC were measured according to standard ***1C was determined by turbidimetric inhibition immunoassay Results:Among the cases and controls,66%and 32%had HbA1C levels higher than 5.7%***1C and BMI were significantly associated with NAFLD[crude odds ratio(cOR)=4.12,2.88,2.25(overweight)and 4.32(obese)].WC was found to be significantly associated with NAFLD for both genders(cOR in males=5.50 and females=5.79,p<0.01).After adjustment for other parameters,HbA1C and WC were found to be significantly associated with NAFLD(aOR=3.40,p<0.001)along with WC in males(aOR=2.91,p<0.05)and in females(aOR=4.28,p<0.05).A significant rise in severity of hepatic steatosis was noted with increases in HbA1C,BMI and ***1C possessed a positive predictive value of 76%for the study population[0.76,confidence interval(CI):0.715-0.809],70.6%for males(0.706,CI:0.629-0.783)and 80%for females(0.80,CI:0.741-0.858).Conclusions:Higher than normal HbA1C and WC measurements possess a more than 70%potential to predict *** is the single risk factor that is strongly associated with NAFLD after adjustment for indices of body ***1C may be presented as a potential biomarker for NAFLD in examination with other anthropometric measures in the adult population.

Functionally impaired people always have difficulty accomplishing activities of daily *** this regard,tasks including toileting and bathing have a higher prevalence rate of injuries and greater risk of *** this study,a body-transfer wheelchair was developed to assist people in transferring from bed to wheelchair for bathing,and *** bodytransfer wheelchair is a semi-automatic wheelchair that has features such as a controlled leg and backrest,linkage commode slot,and height *** wheelchair consists of a seat and a main frame that can be detached to enable bathtub *** mechanism lets the user stay on the seat while being transferred into the bathtub without any risk of falling.A linkage mechanism was developed as a part of the seat for ease of *** and force analysis was conducted to calculate the force required for each *** has been proved by the experimental results that the wheelchair can securely and comfortably transfer a patient from the bed to the toilet or bathtub.A survey has been conducted to evaluate the wheelchair prototype design *** focus groups were chosen:one comprised of functionally impaired people,and the other comprised of *** results of the survey show that 60%of both functionally impaired people and caregivers would like to use the body-transfer wheelchair for toileting and bathing ***,on average 65%of both focus groups find it convenient to operate the body-transfer wheelchair independently.

We present a comparison of different techniques for the analysis of the shift and tilt in optical interference fringes. Fringe center, Radon transform, and Gaussian approximation methods are used for fringe analysis. We have measured the tilt and shift between two relevant fringe pattems. The error in tilt measurement was about 2%, and the displacement of the order of few nanometers was measured by the fringe shift analysis. The comparison between the techniques is analyzed with respect to percentage error.

近几十年来，由于道路网络的扩张和城市化的蓬勃发展，道路建设对典型草原的影响引起了广泛的关注。然而，道路类型和距离对植物种群生长的综合影响仍然知之甚少。因此，本研究以陇东黄土高原微温微干典型草原为研究对象，探讨了道路建设（道路类型、距离）对菊科优势种茵陈蒿（Artemisia capillaris）和伴生种阿尔泰狗娃花（Aster altaicus）生长繁殖影响的驱动因素及其作用机制。结果表明，道路建设促进茵陈蒿的横向生长和无性繁殖，促进阿尔泰狗娃花的垂直生长和有性繁殖。阿尔泰狗娃花具有更强的更新潜力。普通公路茵陈蒿和阿尔泰狗娃花的地上生物量分别比其它两种道路平均高49%和27%，因此其对普通公路建设的响应更加敏感。此外，道路建设主要通过影响土壤进一步影响两个种群的地上生物量在群落中的占比。阿尔泰狗娃花的地上生物量及其在群落中的占比在距离20—35 m的范围存在明显阈值。因此需要注意将此范围内的植被保护和恢复措施与道路管理动态结合，影响植物生长繁殖，调控群落构建过程，以应对道路建设对种群和群落关系扰动的巨大挑战。

Leaching of styrene and other aromatic compounds in drinking water from PS bottles

Bottled water may not be safer, or healthier, than tap water. The present studies have proved that styrene and some other aromatic compounds leach continuously from polystyrene （PS） bottles used locally for packaging. Water sapmles in contact with PS were extracted by a preconcentration technique called as ＂purge and trap＂ and analysed by gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer （GC/MS）. Eleven aromatic compounds were identified in these studies. Maximum concentration of styrene in PS bottles was 29.5 μg/L. Apart from styrene, ethyl benzene, toluene and benzene were also quantified but their concentrations were much less than WHO guide line values. All other compounds were in traces. Quality of plastic and storage time were the major factor in leaching of styrene. Concentration of styrene was increased to 69.53 μg/L after one-year storage. In Styrofoam and PS cups studies, hot water was found to be contaminated with styrene and other aromatic compounds. It was observed that temperature played a major role in the leaching of styrene monomer from Styrofoam cups. Paper cups were found to be safe for hot drinks.
