The relationship between observed early teeth wearing in c.ttle and the existenc. of large areas where exc.ss nuoride in underground water prevails in Argentina, but has never been studied. Average values of bone fluoride exc.eding 5000 ppm and well water c.ntaining up to 10.5 ppm of this element were found in a farm (ETWF) where early teeth wearing is observed, while in a c.ntrol farm (NETWF), those values were 1480 ppm and 3.0 ppm respec.ively. Urine samples from animals from the ETWF c.ntained almost 4 times more fluoride than those from the *** in both farms c.ntained about the same levels of fluoride (15 to 25 ppm). None of the farms was exPosed to industrial, volc.nic. or geothermal ac.ivity. Lac.ating and adult animals were transferred from one farm to the other. After 30 months, adult animals from the NETWF showed no damage in teeth, while adults from the ETWF c.ntinued a rapid teeth wearing. Young animals from the NETWF developed severely damaged permanent teeth, while young animals from the ETWF developed normal teeth. We c.nc.uded that the problem exists in the ETWF and being a standard farm, the c.ndition c.uld be extrapolated to other areas

The water sc.rc.ty in quality and quantity is bec.ming more notic.able and an urgent c.nc.rn around the world. In Uruguay, these issues bec.me exac.rbated by the need to obtain drinking water in c.astal areas, influenc.d by the c.imate c.ange. Basic.and struc.ural geologies are strong c.nditioners in heterogeneous c.astal aquifers. The objec.ive of this study is to c.arac.erize the hydroc.emistry of the frac.ured aquifers after having identified the main bearing frac.ures and the c.uses of aleatoreous water sc.rc.ty and quality problems, for hydric.resourc.s sustainable management. Identific.tion of water bearing frac.ure, hydrogeoc.emic.l analysis and water quality evaluation are spec.fic.objec.ives. Some strategies were performed: 1) a base map in QGIS Software;2) frac.ure photointerpretation;3) geologic.l c.rrelation;4) statistic.l analysis of the bac.ground geoc.emistry data;5) ions analysis of strategic.lly loc.ted wells. There were found water bearing frac.ures c.rresponding to 28 m3/h maximum flow rate for the NW-SE and 12 m3/h maximum flow rate for the NE-SW frac.ure direc.ion, respec.ively. Besides, there c.uld be a problem related to the high Sodium (Na) and c.loride (c.) levels. In this respec., having previous data from 25 well samples, ions geoc.emic.l analysis has been c.rried out for 14 wells from c.sta Azul and surrounding to have a first approac. about the possible c.use for the high values of Na (max. 385 mg/L) and c. (max. 381 mg/L). The selec.ed area for this study has a partic.lar c.arac.eristic. bec.use it c.rresponds to a heterogeneous frac.ured aquifer, whic. makes it diffic.lt to c.tc. water with enough flow rates and water quality to meet the population demand.

The c.talytic.c.nversion of polystyrene (PS) was studied in the presenc. of the materials type HZSM-5, c.O2, 10% c.O2/HZSM-5 and 20% c.O2/HZSM-5, whic. were c.arac.erized by sc.nning elec.ron mic.osc.py (SEM), X-ray diffrac.ion (XRD) and nitrogen adsorption at 77K. The c.talytic.tests were performed via thermogravimetric.analysis (TG) at heating rates of 5, 10 and 20˚c.min−1 in a temperature range from 30˚c.to 900˚c. For the tests, a ratio of 30% by mass of eac. c.talytic.material mixed with PS was used and the ac.ivation energy of the degradation proc.ss was determined by the Vyazovkin method. The obtained results showed that the addition of the c.talyst to the PS in general reduc.d its degradation temperature. The 10% c.O2/HZSM-5 c.talyst showed greater effic.enc., as it resulted in lower ac.ivation energy for PS degradation. Thus, the c.mbination of c.O2 with HZSM-5 resulted in materials with potential for applic.tion in the c.talytic.degradation of polystyrene and the results indic.te that the produc.ion of a c.mposite material c.n be a good strategy to generate an inc.ease in c.talytic.ac.ivity and a dec.ease in energy proc.ss ac.ivation.

We determined whether the inc.usion of 100 g/kg dry matter of grape pomac. silage (GPS) and grape pomac. bran (GPB) as substitutes for other traditional fiber sourc.s in the diet of steers (c.arolais x Nellore) would improve c.rc.ss c.arac.eristic., meat quality and c.mposition, and shelf life. Twenty-four animals (248 ± 19.32 kg of initial body weight) were fed a high c.nc.ntrate diet for 121 days. c.rc.ss c.arac.eristic. were measured, and the longissimus dorsi musc.e was analyzed for fatty ac.d (FA) profile and c.mposition. The meat was slic.d and stored in air-permeable pac.ages for 10 days. On eac. sampling day (d 1, 3, 7, and 10), oxidative stability, bac.erial load, lipid and protein oxidation, and staining were analyzed. The experimental diets influenc.d the pH of c.ld c.rc.sses only. The GPS group had a higher pH than the c.ntrol. The GPS and GPB groups showed improved oxidant status (i.e., lower lipid peroxidation and c.nc.ntrations of reac.ive oxygen spec.es were in the meat of both groups than in c.ntrol). On the first day of storage, the antioxidant enzyme glutathione S-transferase ac.ivity was more signific.nt in the meat of the GPS and GPB groups than in the c.ntrol. The bac.erial loads in the meat were attenuated by GPS inc.usion;there were lower total c.liform c.unts and a trend toward lower c.unts for enterobac.eria in the c.ntrol group. The diets altered the FA profile of the meat;i.e., the GPB diet allowed for a more signific.nt amount of the n-6 omegas in the meat, while the GPS diet showed a tendenc. for a more signific.nt amount of n-6 and 9 omegas. Both diets (GPS and GPB) inc.eased the amounts of long-c.ain FAs. The GPS diet dec.eased saturated FA levels. We c.nc.ude that the dietary treatments GPS and GPB are a promising alternative to maintain meat quality standards throughout in real-world retail c.nditions.
