GaAs-based microdisk lasers with an active region representing a dense array of indium-rich islands(InGaAs quantum well-dots) were studied using direct small-signal modulation. We demonstrate that using dense arrays of InGaAs quantum well-dots enables uncooled high-frequency applications with a GHz-range bandwidth for microdisk lasers. A maximum 3 dB modulation frequency of 5.9 GHz was found in the microdisk with a radius of 13.5 μm operating without a heatsink for cooling. A modulation current efficiency factor of 1.5 GHz∕mA1∕2 was estimated.

A solvable model of lateral line of a fish based on a wave equation with additional boundary conditions on a set of isolated points is *** the framework of this model it is shown that the ratio of pressures on lateral lines on different fish flanks,as well as the cross section of sound scattering on both the lines,strongly depends on angles of incidence of incoming sound *** strong angular dependence of the pressure ratio seems to be sufficient for the fish to determine the directions from which the sound is coming.

Two different types of mHD instabilities with rapidly chirping frequency were found to arise in the Globus-m2 spherical tokamak in substantially different frequency *** first type arises at frequencies of an order of 1 mHz in ohmic plasmas at relatively low density(n_(e))m^(-3) in a wide range of toroidal magnetic fields and plasma *** type of instability was identified as compressional Alfven waves,driven by electrons,accelerated during a sawtooth *** was found that the mode frequency is sweeping in time,according to the Berk-Breizman hole-clump nonlinear chirping *** second type of wave arises in a specific single-swing regime of the central solenoid current with a very narrow plasma column,when the plasma tends to decay at extremely low density(n_(e))m^(-3) and,in fact,is an instability of the runaway electron *** exited modes cover the whole observed frequency range and are divided into several(two or three)frequency regions:approximately 0-30 mHz,60-120 mHz and sometimes 30-60 *** of the branches was also *** chirps are more rapid than for 1 mHz Alfven instability and follow an exponential *** paper,to our knowledge,is the first report of frequency chirping instabilities excited by accelerated electrons at a spherical tokamak.

The effects of pulsing current parameters on weld pool geometry namely front height, back height, front width and back width of pulse current gas tungsten arc welded （GTAW） titanium alloy was analysed. Four factors, five levels, central composite design were used to develop empirical relationships, incorporating pulsed current parameters and weld pool geometry.

In this work we repo rt on structural and spect roscopic properties of Yb^3+doped and Pr^3+/Yb^3+co-doped TeO2-Bi2 O3-ZnO-Li2 O-Nb2 O5(TBZLN)tellurite *** and stretching modes of TeO2 and Te-OH bond(strong and weak)were analysed from the deconvolution of observed Raman and FT-IR *** on the absorption measurements,the energy bands of Yb^3+and Pr^3+ions are *** spectroscopic properties for the radiative transitions of Yb^3+and Pr^3+ions were reported using mcCumber and Judd-Ofelt *** emission bands originating from 3 P1 and 3 P0 to lower lying levels of Pr^3+were registered under 447 nm *** emission band around 1334 nm assigned to the Pr3:1 G4→3 H5 was observed when excited at 980 *** stimulated emission cross-section(σemi(λ))and effective linewidth(Δλeff)for the 3 P1→3 H6,3 P1→3 H5,3 P0→3 H6,3 P0→3 F2,3 P1→3 F3,3 P1→3 F4,3 P0→3 F4 and 1 G4→3 H5 transitions of Pr^3+are *** luminescence in Pr^3+/Yb^3+codoped glass upon 980 nm excitation was *** resonant transfer processes between Yb^3+and Pr^3+ions are presented and *** chromaticity co-ordinates were also evaluated from the visible emission spectra showing that Pr^3+/Yb^3+co-doped glass may be suitable for the development of yellow-orange(λexc=447 nm)and near white light(λexc=980 nm)emitting devices in photonics.

Flexible spin valves were prepared by magnetron sputtering on polyimide substrates. The buffer layer that reduces significantly the effect of the polymer substrate on the spin valve microstructure and magnetoresistive properties was revealed. Bending deformation was applied to the microobjects based on the flexible spin valves in parallel to anisotropy axes. It was revealed that during the bend the magnetoresistance changes due to the joint impact of both the change of the magnetic field projection on the film plane and the change of the magnetic properties of the ferromagnetic layers. The obtained dependences have been used in construction of bending sensor, in which the flexible spin valve microstripes were united into the Wheatstone bridge.
