Background:National forest inventory and forest monitoring systems are more important than ever considering continued global degradation of trees and *** systems are especially important in a country like Bangladesh,which is characterised by a large population density,climate change vulnerability and dependence on natural *** the aim of supporting the Government’s actions towards sustainable forest management through reliable information,the Bangladesh Forest Inventory(BFI)was designed and implemented through three components:biophysical inventory,socio-economic survey and remote sensing-based land cover *** article documents the approach undertaken by the Forest Department under the ministry of Environment,Forests and Climate Change to establish the BFI as a multipurpose,efficient,accurate and replicable national forest *** design,operationalization and some key results of the process are ***:The BFI takes advantage of the latest and most well-accepted technological and methodological ***,it was designed through a collaborative process which drew from the experience and knowledge of multiple national and international ***,1781 field plots were visited,6400 households were surveyed,and a national land cover map for the year 2015 was *** technological enhancements include a semi-automated segmentation approach for developing the wall-to-wall land cover map,an object-based national land characterisation system,consistent estimates between sample-based and mapped land cover areas,use of mobile apps for tree species identification and data collection,and use of differential global positioning system for referencing plot ***:Seven criteria,and multiple associated indicators,were developed for monitoring progress towards sustainable forest management goals,informing management decisions,and national and international reporting needs.A wide range of biophysica

Snowfall Shift and Precipitation Variability over Sikkim Himalaya Attributed to Elevation-Dependent Warming

Sikkim Himalaya hosts critical water resources such as glacial,rain,and snow-fed springs and *** change is adversely affecting these resources in various ways,and elevation-dependent warming is prominent among *** study is a discussion of the elevation-dependent warming(EDW),snowfall shift,and precipitation variability over Sikkim Himalaya using a high-resolution ERA5-land ***,the findings show that the Sikkim Himalaya region is experiencing a warming trend from south to *** majority of the Sikkim Himalayan region shows a declining trend in snowfall.A positive advancement in snowfall trend(at a rate of 1 mm per decade)has been noticed above 4500 *** S/P ratio indicates a shift in snowfall patterns,moving from lower elevations to much higher *** suggests that snowfall has also transitioned from Lachung and Lachen(3600 m)to higher elevated ***,the seasonal shifting of snowfall in the recent decade is seen from January-march(JFm)to February-April(FmA).Subsequently,the preceding 21 years are being marked by a significant spatiotemporal change in temperature,precipitation,and *** potent negative correlation coefficient between temperature and snowfall(–0.9),temperature and S/P ratio(–0.5)suggested the changing nature of snowfall from solid to liquid,which further resulted in increased lower elevation *** entire Sikkim region is transitioning from a cold-dry to a warm-wet weather *** the climate change scenario,a drop in the S/P ratio with altitude will continue to explain the rise in temperature over mountainous regions.

monitoring localized corrosion of Inconel 82 weld overlay on 304L SS weld by electrochemical noise

The manuscript presents the results from the electrochemical noise (EN) monitoring of Inconel 82 weld overlay on Type 304L stainless steel (SS) weld in 0.01m FeCl3. The microstructure of the weld overlay obtained from optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEm) showed an austenite structure, containing equiaxed dendrites and secondary phases at the interdendritic region. Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) attached to SEm revealed the secondary phases to be Nb rich Laves phase. The electrochemical potential noise was monitored using a three identical electrode configuration. The acquired signals were detrended, and wavelet analysis was employed to encode useful information from the noise transients. Visual examination of the potential noise-time record contained distinct high amplitude transients typical of localized corrosion attack. The energy distribution plots (EDP) of the potential noise derived from wavelet analysis depicted maximum relative energy on D6-D8 crystals, which represent large time scale events such as those occurring from localized attacks. Also, repassivation events too could be divulged from the potential EDP. The micrographs of the post electrochemical noise experimented specimens revealed the occurrence of localized attacks along the interdendritic region and none inside the dendritic cores. The presence of secondary phases along the interdendritic regions was found to be detrimental in chloride medium, imparting inferior localized corrosion resistance to the weld overlay.

Novel Nitrobenzazolo[3,2-a]quinolinium Salts Induce Cell Death through a mechanism Involving DNA Damage, Cell Cycle Changes, and mitochondrial Permeabilization

This study reports the capacity of three nitro substituted benzazolo[3,2-a]quinolinium salts NBQs: NBQ 95 (NSC-763304), NBQ 38 (NSC 763305), and NBQ 97 (NSC-763306) as potential antitumor agents. NBQ’s are unnatural alkaloids possessing a positive charge that could facilitate interaction with cell organelles. The anticancer activities of these compounds were evaluated through the National Cancer Institute (NCI) 60 cell line screening which represents diverse histologies. The screening was performed at 10 μm on all cell lines. Results from the NCI screening indicated cytotoxicity activity on six cell lines. In order to explore a possible mechanism of action, a detailed biological activity study of NBQ 95 and NBQ 38 was performed on A431 human epidermoid carcinoma cells to determine an apoptotic pathway involving, cell cycle changes, DNA fragmentation, mutations, mitochondrial membrane permeabilization and caspases activation. DNA fragmentation, cell cycle effects, mutagenesis, mitochondrial permeabilization and activation of caspases were determined by fluorimetry and differential imaging. Our data showed that A431 growth was inhibited with an average IC50 of 30 mm. In terms of the mechanism, these compounds interacted with DNA causing fragmentation and cell cycle arrest at sub G0/G1 stage. mutagenesis was higher for NBQ 38 and moderate for NBQ 95 mitochondrial permeabilization was observed with NBQ 38 and slightly for NBQ 95. Both compounds caused activation of Caspases 3 and 7 suggesting an apoptotic cell death pathway through an intrinsic mechanism. This study reports evidence of the toxicity of these novel compounds with overlapping structural and mechanistic similarities to ellipticine, a known anti-tumor compound.

Bank erosion of rivers, e.g. Bagmati, Burhi Gandak, Kosi and Kamla-Balan, all originating in the Himalayan hills of Nepal and flowing throughthe alluvial plains of North Bihar, is a chronic and common *** and deposition result in shifting or meandering of the riverendangering the embankment, road, bridge, barrage, and ***-erosion and maintenance require huge investment. The river Kamla-Balan faces bank erosion throughout its embanked length, but stretchesat km 37 and 62 are highly unstable and vulnerable. This paper dealswith the problem, presents the hydrological details responsible for thehazard, and demonstrates the effectiveness of supplementary geo-textilewith conventional sand filter pitching to protect the soil and slope of theriverbank. Estimated flood discharge and velocity at 100 years of returnperiod is nearly 2100 cumecs and 0.9 m/sec, respectively. Riverbed andbank material is represented by silt with d50 of 0.018 to 0.05 mm while0.02 mm of silt may get eroded and transported by flow above 0.15 m/s. Launching apron is also required due to local scour. model study testshows its suitability under various hydraulic conditions. Study reveals theeffectiveness of woven type geo-textile reinforced revetment irrespective ofcost and environmental consideration.

The question whether chemotherapy induced autophagy is causative to the demise of the cells or is it a part of the survival mechanism activated during cellular distress is *** and we have previously demonstrated apoptosis inducing capacity of N-(4-hydroxyphenyl) retinamide (4-HPR) in malignant glioma *** provide evidences of 4-HPR induced autophagy at a lower concentration (5 mum).Sub optimal dose of 4-HPR treatment of malignant gliomas cell lines increased G2/m arrest whereas cell accumulated in S-phase at a higher concentration.4-HPR-induced autophagy was associated with acidic vacuole (AVO) formation and recruitment of microtubule-associated protein light chain 3 (LC3).At higher concentration of 10 mum of 4-HPR glioma cells undergoing apoptosis manifested autophagic features indicated by autophagosome formation, AVO development and LC3 localization.

通过调查生物质发电厂得知,牧豆树常被选为下吸式气化炉的燃料。产气的特性由不同的成分、热值、密度和焦油含量所确定。气化炉的性能通过观察参数如燃料消耗量、比燃料消耗量、当量比、比产气率、比气化速率和气化效率来评价。在负荷20 kW条件下,一氧化碳（CO）、氢气（H2）、二氧化碳（CO2）、甲烷（CH4）和氮（N2）体积百分比分别为18.4%、13.8%、11.1%、2.40%和54.2%。随着发动机负荷从5 kW增加到20 kW,气体的热值、密度和焦油含量变化范围分别为4.17～4.85 mJ/m3,1.16～1.56 kg/m3和10.0～10.2 mg/m3;燃料消耗速率、比燃料消耗速率、比气化速率、比产气率、当量比和气化效率变化范围为11～28 kg/h,1.40～2.20 kg/（kW·h）,29.63～75.43 kg/（m2·h）,103.7～257.43 m3/hm2,0.32～0.47和79.26%～89.90%。
