Background Stone pine(Pinus pinea), a drought-resistant species, has significant socio-economic benefits and increasing interest for the establishment of productive plantations in several countries, especially in a climate change context. monitoring hourly stem diameter variations contributes to the understanding of the tree-growth response to changes in environmental conditions and management. By monitoring the diameter expansion of tree stems, high-resolution band dendrometers were used to study the development of adult trees growing in a semi-arid coastal environment of central Chile under fertilized and non-fertilized soil conditions through the span of a *** Short cycles(g cycles(> 28 h) occurred at a higher frequency in fertilized trees(16 vs 6). most of the circadian cycles were regular(24 ± 3 h). The longest cycle duration(59 h) was observed in fertilized trees during spring. In all seasons, each phase of the circadian cycle, especially during the stem diameter increment phase(P3, irreversible growth), started earlier in fertilized than in control trees. P3 duration was significantly longer in fertilized than in control trees in springtime. The maximum shrinkage(P1) was observed in summer for both treatments. Stem diameter increased faster in fer-tilized than in control trees throughout the year, with the highest accumulation occurring in spring and the lowest in autumn. The daily variability pattern showed lower growth under high temperature across *** This study highlights the importance of fertilization in enhancing stone pine diameter growth. This cultural practice should be further explored to contribute to the mitigation of climate change effects in semi-arid environments.

The effect of temperature on the electrical conductivity （σ） and Seebeck coefficient （S） of n-type vapor grown carbon nanofibers （CNFs）and poly（vinylidene fluoride）(PVDF) melt-mixed with 15 wt%of those CNFs is *** 40°C,the CNFs show stable n-type character (S=-4.8μV·K-1) with anσof ca.165 S·m-1,while the PVDF/CNF composite film shows anσof ca.9 S·m-1and near-zero S (S=-0.5μV·K-1).This experimental reduction in S is studied by the density functional tight binding （DFTB） method revealing a contact electron transfer from the CNFs to the PVDF in the ***,in the temperature range from 40°C to 100°C,theσ（T） of the CNFs and PVDF/CNF film,successfully described by the 3D variable range hopping （VRH） model,is explained as consequence of a thermally activated backscattering *** the contrary,the S（T）from 40°C to 100°C of the PVDF/CNF film,which satisfactorily matches the model proposed for some multi-walled carbon nanotube （mWCNT）doped mats;however,it does not follow the increase in S（T） found for *** these findings are presented with the aim of discerning the role of these n-type vapor grown carbon nanofibers on theσand S of their melt-mixed polymer composites.

Background Treeline ecotones of mediterranean ecoregions have been affected by the increasing intensity and severity of droughts. Even though the effect of droughts on forest dynamics has been widely documented, knowledge is relatively scarce of how extreme climate episodes affect the hydraulic structure and, therefore, the phys-iology of woody plants. The mediterranean Andes have experienced an uninterrupted period of drought since 2010, including an extremely dry year in 2019 with approximately 80% rainfall deficit. Here, we investigated shifts in wood anatomical and physiological traits of Kageneckia angustifolia, an endemic treeline species, in response to this drought *** We evaluated the xylem plasticity of three K. angustifolia populations across their natural distribution(31–35° SL) based on anatomical(vessel structure and distribution) and physiological(intrinsic water-use efficiency) variables in the tree rings. We focused on the period 2000–2020 that corresponds to before the megadrought(2000–2007),(ii) megadrought(2008–2018) and(iii) hyperdrought(2019–2020). The variables were annualized and analyzed by linear mixed-effects *** Our results provide insights to the anatomical and physiological mechanisms underlying the resilience of treeline forests to persistent droughts in central Chile. We found that the extreme drought in 2019–2020 triggered shifts in vessel size and frequency that increased hydraulic safety. These significant shifts in vessel traits occurred in parallel with a decrease in pit aperture area and an increase in water-use efficiency, further increasing the resilience of K. angustifolia to extreme drought *** Our results revealed coordinated shifts in vessel size and frequency and water-use efficiency in response to the megadrought, thereby reducing vulnerability to hydraulic failure. Purpose:The present work examines the associations of dietary habits,sedentarism,physical activity(PA)levels and sleep habits,with thyroid function in young euthyroid ***:A total of 105 young euthyroid adults participated in this cross-sectional *** function was determined in fasting conditions(>6 h).Dietary habits were measured by a food frequency questionnaire and three non-consecutive 24 h recalls,and different dietary intake and patterns were then *** time spent in sedentary,PA levels and sleep habits were objectively measured using a wrist-worn ***:Energy and carbohydrate intake were positively associated with thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH)(β=0.222;R^(2)=0.102;P=0.022 andβ=0.425;R^(2)=0.129;P=0.007,respectively)whereas fat intake was negatively associated with TSH(β=-0.428;R^(2)=0.137;P=0.004).Energy intake was also positively associated with free triiodothyronine(β=0.277;R^(2)=0.137;P=0.004).Further,adherence to the mediterranean diet was negatively related to TSH and free thyroxine(FT4)(β=-0.221;R^(2)=0.113;P=0.020 andβ=-0.268;R^(2)=0.071;P=0.007,respectively).Vigorous-intensity and overall PA were negatively associated with FT4(β=-0.227;R^(2)=0.052;P=0.022 andβ=-0.204;R^(2)=0.042;P=0.041,respectively).In contrast,no associations were found between sleep parameters and thyroid ***:Lifestyle factors such as dietary intake and PA levels seems to be related to thyroid function even in young euthyroid adults.

BACKgROUND Esophagopericardial fistula(EPF)is a rare,life-threatening condition with limited scientific literature and no established management *** case report highlights a successful multidisciplinary approach and the innovative use of endoscopic vacuum assisted closure(endoVAC)therapy in treating this complex *** SUmmARY A 16-year-old male with a history of esophageal atresia and colon interposition presented with progressive chest pain,fever,and *** revealed an EPF with associated pleural and pericardial *** management with an esophageal stent failed,prompting the use of an endoVAC *** patient underwent multiple endoVAC device changes and received broad-spectrum antibiotics and nutritional *** fistula successfully closed,and the patient recovered,demonstrating no new symptoms at a 6-month *** EndoVAC therapy can effectively manage EPF,providing a minimally invasive treatment option.

Introduction: Necrotizing pancreatitis management is complex and varies significantly among clinicians. minimally invasive approaches like transgastric necrosectomy via laparoscopy are emerging as effective treatment options. This case report underscores the technique’s efficacy, clinical outcomes, and role in reducing complications. Clinical Observation: A 59-year-old male with a history of smoking and alcoholism presented with severe abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. Over the following weeks, he developed symptoms including asthenia, weight loss, and melena. Diagnostic workup revealed severe anemia and Balthazar E necrotizing pancreatitis, with significant intra-abdominal fluid collections and signs of infection. After initial conservative management, the patient underwent transgastric necrosectomy via laparoscopy due to deteriorating clinical status. The procedure involved removing necrotic tissue and performing a cystogastroanastomosis and jejunostomy. Postoperative care included fasting, parenteral nutrition, broad-spectrum antibiotics, and enzymatic replacement. The patient recovered well, with reduced necrotic tissue on follow-up imaging, and was discharged twelve days post-surgery [1]. Conclusion: Transgastric necrosectomy by laparoscopy is a valuable first-line surgical option for patients with symptomatic necrotizing pancreatitis, particularly in cases without prior interventions. This minimally invasive technique helps reduce major complications and mortality, offering a less invasive alternative to traditional open necrosectomy. The multidisciplinary approach and careful postoperative management were crucial to the patient’s favorable outcome. The case highlights the potential of transgastric necrosectomy as an effective treatment strategy in managing complex pancreatitis cases, including those with associated duodenal perforation [2].

Desmodus rotundus and Diphylla ecaudata, both of which are mammals of the order Chiroptera, Desmodontidae family, their diet consisting exclusively of blood. D. rotundus is the main vector and transmitter of the rabies virus, which affects human beings as well as several livestock species so the study of this bat species is of high importance within the fields of animal agriculture and public health. The present study describes and compares the histologic characteristics of the urinary system of two hematophagous bat species. A total of 5 bats from each species were captured in the municipalities of Progreso de Obregón, Hidalgo (D. rotundus), and Huayacocotla, Veracruz (D. ecaudata). Organs belonging to the urinary system were extracted: kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, and urethra;samples were fixed using 10% formalin and processed by the paraffin embedding technique, obtaining sections of 5 µm thickness, which in turn were stained using hematoxylin-eosin (H-E) and gomori trichrome (gT) stains. From the obtained histologic preparations, a descriptive and comparative analysis of the structural organography of the urinary system of both species was made, and no noteworthy histological differences between samples were noted. The present research is intended to provide a framework for future studies of these species’ currently understudied microscopic anatomy.

Until recently,microglia were mainly known as the resident phagocytes of the brain,***‘immunological warriors’of the ***,extensive knowledge is being accumulated about the functions of microglia beyond ***,it is well accepted that microglial cells are highly dynamic and responsive,and that they intervene in a dual manner in many developmental processes that shape the central nervous system,including neurogenesis,gliogenesis,spatial patterning,synaptic formation and elimination,and neural circuit establishment and *** differentiation and the pool of precursor cells were also shown to be under microglia regulation via bidirectional *** this concise review,I discuss our recent work in microglia-Pax6+cell interactions in one of the circumventricular organs,the pineal *** analogy with the rest of the central nervous system is also *** addition,I briefly examine mechanisms of interaction between microglia and non-microglial cells in both health and *** avenues are also introduced,which may lead us to better comprehend the impact of microglia in physiological and pathological conditions.

Precipitation kinetics of carbides during cyclical and isothermal aging of 2.25Cr–1mo steel and its effect on mechanical properties

The carbide precipitation was analyzed during aging of 2.25Cr–1mo steel at 550℃.The as-received steel was aged in two different manners:the first treatment was an isothermal aging at 550℃ for time up to 1000 h,and the second one was carried out by a cyclical aging,which consisted of aging at 550℃ for 1 h,water quenching at room temperature and then newly heating at 550℃.This procedure was repeated up to 300 *** m_(23)C_(6) and m6C carbide precipitation took place intragranularly and intergranularly for both aging *** carbide coarsening was detected to occur with the increasing aging ***,the growth kinetics of precipitation occurred more rapidly in the case of cyclical *** specimen hardness decreased with the aging time in both cases;however,it occurred in shorter aging time for the cyclical *** testing indicated the increase in ductility with the aging time,and the cyclically aged specimens showed larger ductility than the isothermally aged specimens.
