Inhibition of rat prostate smooth muscle contractility by extracts of Costus speciosus(crepe ginger)

Background:This study examined the chemistry and biological effects of Costus speciosus(***)Sm.(***)which has been traditionally used by Sarawak natives to treat urological disorders for ***:This study assesses the efficacy of *** in treating urological disorders by investigating its effects on the contractility of isolated prostate glands since this is the most effective way to relieve lower urinary tract symptoms that accompany benign prostatic *** were collected and extracts of *** rhizome,root,leaf and stem were made using water at different ***:*** rhizome and root decoction(boiling,about 100℃)combination extract(2 mg/mL)inhibited electrical field stimulation-induced neurogenic contractions of isolated rat prostatic gland by 44±8%(p=0.01,n=4);whereas room temperature(about 20℃)rhizome and root combination extract inhibited electrical field stimulation contractions by 62±8%(p=0.003,n=4).*** rhizome(p=0.0004,n=6),root(pm(p=0.0057,n=6)room temperature extracts inhibited electrical field stimulation-induced contractions of rat prostatic smooth muscle but leaf extract did not(p=0.09,n=6).Contractions mediated by exogenous administration of noradrenaline,acetylcholine,adenosine 5’-triphosphate or tyramine were only weakly inhibited by rhizome *** of *** rhizome room temperature extract separated by preparative high-performance liquid chromatography and evaluated by isolated organ bath bioassay revealed that inhibitory activity of the extract was due to highly polar soluble components present in the ***:*** extracts exert a direct inhibitory effect on prostate tissue which is likely to be therapeutically beneficial in treating lower urinary tract symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Hippocampal neuronal loss causes cognitive dysfunction in Alzheimer’s *** hippocampal neurogenesis is reduced in patients with Alzheimer’s *** stimulates adult hippocampal neurogenesis in rodents and improves memory and slows cognitive decline in patients with Alzheimer’s ***,the molecular pathways for exercise-induced adult hippocampal neurogenesis and improved cognition in Alzheimer’s disease are poorly ***,regulator of G protein signaling 6(RGS6)was identified as the mediator of voluntary running-induced adult hippocampal neurogenesis in ***,we generated novel RGS6fl/fl;APP_(SWE) mice and used retroviral approaches to examine the impact of RGS6 deletion from dentate gyrus neuronal progenitor cells on voluntary running-induced adult hippocampal neurogenesis and cognition in an amyloid-based Alzheimer’s disease mouse *** found that voluntary running in APP_(SWE) mice restored their hippocampal cognitive impairments to that of control *** cognitive rescue was abolished by RGS6 deletion in dentate gyrus neuronal progenitor cells,which also abolished running-mediated increases in adult hippocampal *** hippocampal neurogenesis was reduced in sedentary APP_(SWE) mice versus control mice,with basal adult hippocampal neurogenesis reduced by RGS6 deletion in dentate gyrus neural precursor ***6 was expressed in neurons within the dentate gyrus of patients with Alzheimer’s disease with significant loss of these RGS6-expressing ***,RGS6 mediated voluntary running-induced rescue of impaired cognition and adult hippocampal neurogenesis in APP_(SWE) mice,identifying RGS6 in dentate gyrus neural precursor cells as a possible therapeutic target in Alzheimer’s disease.

Secondary Chilean EFL Learners' Attitudes Toward English Language Learning, the English Language Itself, and the L2 Community

During the last three decades, attitudes have played a major role in second/foreign language learning research. Scholars have found that a more positive attitude towards the target language improves second/foreign language learning. In order to contribute to this area of research, this study focuses on Chilean EFL learners with different proficiency levels (i.e., beginner, intermediate, and advanced) and their attitudes toward learning English, the English language itself, and the L2 community. By gathering data through a questionnaire and analysing it using SPSS, significant differences were found among the learners' groups, and their attitudes toward English. These findings will be discussed further in this study together with previous research.

Antifungal activity of plant extracts with potential to control plant pathogens in pineapple

Objective:To evaluate the in vitro antifungal activity of extracts,resins,oils and mother tinctures from plants against the filamentous fungi Fusarium guttiforme(***)and Chalara paradoxa,and to evaluate the control of the pineapple fusariosis in situ using mother ***:The screening of the antifungal potential of 131 extract forms from 63 plant species was performed in vitro by using plate-hole *** control pineapple fusariosis in situ,preventive and post-infection treatments were performed on detached pineapple leaves of ***(susceptible).Results:The quantitative study indicated that among the 49 mother tincture samples analyzed,46% were effective against *** and 29% for the Chalara *** natural plant extracts,mother tincture of Glycyrrhiza glabra(mTGG1),mother tincture of myroxylon balsamum(mTBT2),mother tincture of Aloe vera(mTAV3),mother tincture of Allium sativum(mTAS4),resin of Protium heptaphyllum(RESAm5) and crude extracts of Rhizophora mangle(CEmV6),exhibited an antifungal activity against *** the preventive treatment against pineapple fusariosis,mTAV3,mTAS4 and mTGG1 were statistically similar to the treatment with tebuconazol *** curative treatments with mTAV3,mTAS4,mTGG1 and mTBT2 presented similar activity to fungicide(P mother tinctures can effectively control *** mother tincture extract of myroxylon balsamum showed antifungal activity and was used here for the first time for inhibition of phytopathogenic *** study paves the way for the development of bioactive natural products with phytosanitary applications,with the added benefits of an environmentally safe and economically viable product.

Immunohistochemical study of the digestive tract of Oligosarcus hepsetus

AIm: To describe the histology of the digestive tract and to investigate the occurrence of endocrine cells in Oligosarcus hepsetus (O. hepsetus ). mETHODS: The digestive tract (DT) of O. hepsetus was divided into esophagus, two stomach regions (glandular and non-glandular) and two intestinal regions (anterior and posterior). These specimens were processed by routine histological techniques and stained with hematoxylin-eosin, Gomori's trichrome, periodic acid Schiff (PAS) and Alcian blue (AB). An immunohistochemical method using avidin-biotin-peroxidase was ***: The esophagus is lined with a non-keratinized stratified squamous epithelium that is reactive to PAS and AB. The stomach has a mucosa lined with a simple columnar epithelium with mucus-secreting cells that are reactive only to PAS. The intestine has a simple columnar epithelium with a brush border and goblet cells that are reactive to PAS and AB. Somatostatin, serotonin and cholecystokinin immunoreactive cells were identified throughout the ***: This study revealed adaptations for the species' diet and showed that the distribution and relative frequency of immunoreactive cells are similar to those of other fish.

In recent years,there has been considerable exploration into methods aimed at enhancing the regenerative capacity of transplanted and/or tissue-resident ***,in particular,have garnered significant interest for their potential to serve as natural scaffolds for *** this editorial,we provide commentary on the study by Wang et al,in a recently published issue of World J Stem Cells,which investigates the use of a decellularized xenogeneic extracellular matrix(ECm)derived from antler stem cells for repairing osteochondral defects in rat knee *** focus lies specifically on the crucial role of biological scaffolds as a strategy for augmenting stem cell potential and regenerative capabilities,thanks to the establishment of a favorable microenvironment(niche).Stem cell differen-tiation heavily depends on exposure to intrinsic properties of the ECm,including its chemical and protein composition,as well as the mechanical forces it can ***,these physicochemical cues contribute to a bio-instructive signaling environment that offers tissue-specific guidance for achieving effective repair and *** interest in mechanobiology,often conceptualized as a form of“structural memory”,is steadily gaining more validation and momen-tum,especially in light of findings such as these.

Pharmacogenetics of azathioprine in inflammatory bowel disease: A role for glutathione-S-transferase?

Azathioprine is a purine antimetabolite drug commonly used to treat inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In vivo it is active after reaction with reduced glutathione (GSH) and conversion to mercaptopurine. Although this reaction may occur spontaneously, the presence of isoforms m and A of the enzyme glutathione-S-transferase (GST) may increase its speed. Indeed, in pediatric patients with IBD, deletion of GST-m1, which determines reduced enzymatic activity, was recently associated with reduced sensitivity to azathioprine and reduced production of azathioprine active metabolites. In addition to increase the activation of azathioprine to mercaptopurine, GSTs may contribute to azathioprine effects even by modulating GSH consumption, oxidative stress and apoptosis. Therefore, genetic polymorphisms in genes for GSTs may be useful to predict response to azathioprine even if more in vitro and clinical validation studies are needed.
