Objective: Analyze the maternal mortality in the two departments of CHU Point “G” in Bamako, because of high maternal mortality rate in our country. material and methods: This was an analytical cross-sectional study on maternal deaths from February 19, 2005 to November 19, 2019 for patients admitted in both departments and who died during the pregnancy-puerperal period at CHU Point “G”. All the patients who died outside this pregnancy-puerperal period were not retained. The data were entered and analyzed using SPSS 12.0 software. The statistical test used was that of Chi2, the statistical significance threshold was fixed at 5%. Results: During our study, we recorded 389 maternal deaths out of 16,033 admissions in 15 years and 18,060 live births during the same period making a maternal mortality ratio of 2153.931 and a frequency of 2.426. At the end of our study, we noted that the frequency of maternal deaths was higher in 2014: 12.9% (50/389). The maternal death predominantly affected women aged of 20 - 24 with a frequency of 22.4% (87/389). The multiparity (166/389 making 42.7%), illiteracy (341/389 making 87.7%), the poor evacuation conditions (non-medicalized transport): 263/389 making 67.6%;the evacuation without any evacuation sheet: 259/389 making 66.6%), poor CPN (Prenatal consultation) quality (undone CPN: 191/389 making 49.1%) and the poor monitoring of delivery works (no use of partograph in 343/389 making 88.2%) were the factors favoring maternal deaths. The main causes of maternal deaths were direct in 231/389 making 59.4% with hemorrhage in first line: 21.1% (82/389), infection (61/389 cases making 15.68%), dystocia: 50 cases making 12.85% and high blood pressure and complications (38/389 making 9.76%);indirect in 158/389 cases making 40.6% (Figures 1-3). Aim: To evaluate 15 years practice of coelioscopic Treatment of ectopicpregnancy in the Surgery Department “A” at the University Hospital Point G. material and methods: We conducted a descriptive retrospective study at the Surgery Department “A” at the University Hospital Point G from January 2001 to August 2015. Inclusion criteria were all pregnant women with ectopic pregnancy treated with coelioscopy. Sociodemographic, clinical, paracclinical and therapeutic aspects were recorded. Results: In 15 years, 42 cases of ectopic pregnancy out of 3840 gynecologic coelioscopies (1.04%) were collected. The average age was 28.5 years old with the extremes of 16 and 41 years old. metrorragia was associated to pain in 83.3% (35/42);amenorrhea was found in 66.7% (28/41). Physical exam revealed pain with abdominal defense in 59.5% (25/42), adnexal mass in 31% (13/42), and pelvic contracture in 9.5% (4/42). In pre-operative, ectopic pregnancy was diagnosed complicated in 71.4% (30/42) and uncomplicated in 28.6% (12/42). Patients underwent salpingectomy in 85.7% (36/42), delivery from the fallopian tube in 9.8% (4/42), and hemostatic salpingectomy in 4.4% (2/42). The average duration of hospital stay was 1.88 day with the extremes of 1 and 7 days. The postoperative evolution was favorable in 97.6% (41/42), infection at the site of surgery was reported in 2.4% (1/42). Not a single death was registered. Conclusion: Treatment of ectopic pregnancy is of routine at the surgery department “A” in Point G. Fertility is preserved in the future.

Optimizing the Particle Size of Shale and Laterite Used as Constructed Wetland Substrates for Wastewater Treatment

Constructed Wetlands (CWs) are currently one of the most promising techniques for wastewater treatment, having demonstrated their effectiveness. However, the choice of substrate particle size is critical to the smooth operation of the process, as hydrodynamic constraints require a coarse particle size, whereas wastewater treatment recommends a fine particle size. This study investigates the suitability of laterite and shale as substrates of different sizes (1 - 3, 3 - 5 and 5 - 8 mm) in CWs for domestic wastewater treatment. The study was carried out in an experimental pilot plant consisting of 12 parallelepiped beds (C × C = 0.4 × 0.4 m2;H = 0.6 m) filled from bottom to top with 0.1 m of gravel and 0.4 m of shale or laterite of different grain sizes with two replications. During the six months of operation, plant biomass and stem diameter of Pennisetum purpureum used as vegetation in the CWs were determined. Raw and treated water were also sampled and analyzed for pollutants, including chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), total Kjedahl nitrogen (TKN), total phosphorus (TP), and total suspended solids (TSS), using International Organization for Standardization (ISO) analytical methods. P. purpureum developed much better in the CW beds lined with shale;plant biomass ranged from 13.8 to 14.7 kg/m2 and from 11.2 to 12.5 kg/m2 in the beds lined with shale and laterite, respectively, as did stump diameter, which ranged from 15.5 to 16.1 cm and from 11.10 to 12.7 cm, respectively. However, the highest values for biomass and stump diameter for each material were obtained in the beds lined with 1 - 3 mm geomaterials. Pollutant removal efficiencies were highest in the CWs lined with laterite and shale of 1 - 3 mm grain size (76.9% - 83% COD, 78% - 84.7% BOD5, 55.5% - 72.2% TKN, 58.4% - 72.4% TP, 78.1% - 80.2% TSS), with the highest values recorded in the shale-lined beds. The Bambara groundnut Vigna subterranea (L.) Verdc. is a drought-resistant indigenous African grain legume with significant nutritional and agronomic potential. This study aimed to characterize the seed storage proteins of eight Bambara groundnut landraces. Seeds of Bambara groundnut landraces were collected from local markets in Burkina Faso, and total soluble protein as well as protein fractions were extracted. Crude protein content was determined by the Kjeldahl method, and soluble proteins were quantified using Bradford dye binding assay. The average crude protein content of the seeds was found to be 18.46%, with variations ranging from 17.69% to 19.17% among the different landraces. most of the protein content was soluble, constituting approximately 87.04% of the total crude protein. Albumin fraction was the most dominant, representing about 95.42% of the total soluble proteins. The globulin, prolamin and glutelin fractions accounted for 1.82%, 0.13% and 1.17% of the soluble proteins, respectively. The findings provide valuable insights into the protein composition of Bambara groundnut landraces and contribute to our understanding of its nutritional potential, laying the groundwork for further research on crop improvement and sustainable agriculture practices.

Objective: To evaluate the anthelmintic property of Saba senegalensis(***) Pichon(Apocynaceae)(S. senegalensis) on Haemonchus contortus that is traditionally used in Burkina Faso for its gastrointestinal parasites ***: The lyophilized aqueous decoction of leaves of S. senegalensis at concentrations of 0.10, 1.00, 3.00, 10.00 and 15.00 mg/m L was used on eggs and adult worms of Haemonchus contortus collected from gastrointestinal tract of small ***: The LC_(50) on adult worms was 6.79 mg/m L and 3.25 mg/m L for the leaves of S. senegalensis and the levamisole(reference drug), respectively. Inhibition of hatching assay showed a concentration-dependent manner with an inhibition of 93.63% at the concentration of 15.00 mg/m L of S. ***: These results indicate that the aqueous extract of S. senegalensis possesses an anthelmintic property and may justify its use in traditional medicine for the treatment of gastrointestinal parasites.

Sacrospinous fixation (SSF) or Richter’s intervention (RI) aims to treat genital prolapse by securing the posterior vaginal wall to the small sacrospinous ligament. It is performed by low approach and includes a dissection of the pararectal space, visual exposure of the sacrospinous ligament and a needle with strait needle holder with nonabsorbable threads. It is often associated with a more complex corrective procedure, including cystocele cure, vaginal hysterectomy and posterior myorrhaphy. The objective of this study is to report the results of SSF in the gynecology department of Hopital du mali. A descriptive study was conducted from September 2014 to September 2015 concerning 37 patients operated on for uterine prolapse (UP). All patients with grade III UP were included in our study in whom a unilateral hysterectomy (UH) and sacrospinous fixation (SSF) were performed. All the patients were scheduled. Preoperatively they had benefited from an assessment and a pre-anesthetic consultation. Hospitalization of at least 24 hours prior to the operation was required. Postoperative follow-up was two years with a physical examination at 3 months, 9 months and 15 months, and phone calls between physical consultations. During the study period, we performed 37 RIs. The mean age of the patients was 48 years with extremes of 41 to 73 years. The large multiparity was found out in 35 cases (94.59%), the pauciparous were two with 3 deliveries for each. Long labor of more than 18 hours was found out in 9 patients (24.32%) and home delivery in 13 cases (35.13%). The duration of the occurrence of prolapse was at least two years and 35 patients were going through menopause. The type of anesthesia used for the surgery was spinal anesthesia for all patients. The average duration of the operation was 90 minutes. Complications occurred in three patients or 8.10% of cases, two cases of acute urine retention and one case of hematoma of the para-rectal space. Imperata yellow mottle caused by Imperata yellow mottle virus (IYmV) of the genus Sobemovirus was first characterized on Imperata cylindrical and Zea mays in Burkina Faso. The disease has been reported in several localities of the country but its ecology and epidemiology are poorly known. In particular, only I. cylindrical and maize have been reported within IYmV host range. The aim of this study was to investigate the experimental host range of the virus. mechanical inoculation of a mixture of four IYmV isolates to 18 plant species, including four crops (maize, rice, sorghum and pearl millet) and 14 wild grasses showed clear mottle symptoms in maize, sorghum and pearl millet and two wild grass species (Setaria verticillata and Rottboellia exaltata). Symptom development was confirmed by Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Infection of crop species by IYmV depended on cultivars tested. Therefore, proportions of positive cultivars were 16/36 in maize, 4/10 in sorghum and 4/9 in pearl millet, respectively. Studies on virus-host interactions using individual virus isolates showed two pathogenic patterns. Three out of the four isolates tested infected all plant species and cultivars. In contrast, the fourth IYmV isolate could infect only one maize cultivar. These results expand the previously known host range of IYmV from two to five species, indicating a narrow host range. Among the new characterized host species, sorghum and pearl millet are important cereal crops. Therefore, Imperata yellow motte disease is a potential threat for the cereal crop production and its ecology and epidemiology should be thoroughly investigated.

The perinatal mortality is a public health issue in developing countries. In fact, the perinatal death rate seems the highest in a malian rural area. The objective of this work was to study the perinatal mortality in a rural area of mali (Kadiolo). methodology: It was a cross-sectional descriptive study conducted in Kadiolo over 12 months. The study took place from April 1, 2016 to march 31, 2017. We have included in our study all dead fetuses in gestational age ≥ 28 weeks of amenorrhea (WA) or weight ≥ 500 grams (g) and infants died during the first week of life. mothers who have experienced a perinatal death were included. Results: During the 12 months of study period, we have recorded a total of 2212 births out of which we have collected 205 perinatal deaths, a perinatal mortality rate of 205/2212 with 93 per 1000. The stillbirth rate was 152/2212 with 69‰ and the early neonatal mortality rate was 53/2212 with 24‰. The sociodemographic characteristic of the patients was: patient who has been evacuated 71.70%, unschooled 77.1%, coming out of the city Kadiolo 76%, young women 65% and patient who did not receive antenatal care 35%. Conclusion: Our study confirms the high rates of perinatal deaths in rural areas. The implementation of a coherent and efficient care strategy should help in reducing the still high rates.

Objective: To study the lipid profile among the diabetic and non-diabetic obese patients. methods: It was a descriptive and prospective study carried out over a period of 9 months from march to December 2010. It concerned all the patients who came for consultation in endocrinology at the internal medicine of Point G University Hospital Center and at the National Center for Diabetes Research. All the patients were included without any gender or age difference, voluntary and with a BmI ≥ 30 kg/m2. Results: Out of the 1543 patients received in consultation, we had identified 178 obese people that is to say 11, 53% of the cases. Among these cases 60 abided by our criteria with 30 diabetic patients and 30 non-diabetic ones. The average age was 45.83 ± 14.68 years old;73.3% were more than 40 years old. The sex ratio was 0.07. Two third (66.7%) of our patients limited their eating diet to the three main meals/day and 61.7% were sedentary. The notion of family obesity was found in 93.4% of the cases, of family diabetes in 58.3% of the cases, of past personal medical history of hypertension in 43.3% of the cases. It was about an android obesity in 91% and Gynoid in 9% of the cases. The BmI was 55% of the cases comprised between 30 - 34.9 kg/m2. The lipid profile noticed was: A hypertriglyceridemia: 33% of diabetic patients and 10% of non-diabetic patients, a high LDL cholesterol: 37% of diabetic patients and 30% of our diabetic patients, a HDL hypocholesterolemia: 40% of the diabetic patients and 20% of the non-diabetic patients, a total hypercholesterolemia: 37% of the diabetic patients and 23% of non-diabetic patients. A hyperglycemia was noticed in 13.3% of non-diabetic patients. Conclusion: The frequency of metabolic troubles was higher in obese diabetic patients compared to non-diabetic obese patients mainly the hypertriglyceridemia.

In this article, a model of a rotor with an asymmetric disk is presented in order to represent Campbell’s diagrams and instability maps as a function of the rotations of the support which can significantly change the dynamic behavior of the rotor. Critical rotating speeds can also lead to unacceptable levels of vibration. Indeed, the critical speeds are a function of the dynamic rigidity of the rotating systems and the presence of the gyroscopic forces creates a dependence between the rotating speed of rotation and the natural frequencies to such structures (the CAmPBELL diagrams): this implies that the correct determination of the critical speeds is one of the essential elements when sizing such dynamic systems.
