Variation of basic density,calorific value and volumetric shrinkage within tree height and tree age of Ugandan grown Eucalyptus grandis wood

Insufficient knowledge on Ugandan grown Eucalyptus grandis *** ex maiden wood properties,high demand,and processing challenges led to a study into its physical *** obtained the variation of basic density(BD),calorific value(CV)and volumetric shrinkage(VS)within tree height and tree-age of ***,and its appropriate use based on these *** with good boles were harvested from Kabarole District in western Uganda to produce specimens as prescribed by British Standards and ASTm standard wood testing *** data reviews and statistical analysis using ANOVA,Tukey’s test and multivariate analysis were done to obtain property estimates and their variation within trees and amongst tree *** mean BD of *** is 413.6,380.5,471.0,and 501.1 kg m^(−3)at 3,6,9,and 12 years,respectively,showing significant increase with tree age(p=0.003).The pattern of BD with tree height showed a reduction with tree height although with higher values in the middle portion of the *** CV increases(p=0.014)with tree age and reduces with tree height with values of 14,560.32,15,447.3,16,079.11,and 16,932.6 kJ kg^(−1)at 3,6,9,and 12 years,*** percentage VS was 11.02,9.84,12.31,and 14.45 for 3-,6-,9-,and 12-year-old trees,respectively,and it did not vary significantly(p=0.088)with tree *** on these property values,*** wood could be used for scaffolding,light constructions and fuel wood *** seasoning needs to be longer with well monitored drying schedules to reduce seasoning defects caused by the high *** studies on strength properties,seasoning schedules,panel products properties and tree-age chemical variations would improve the knowledge about its wood quality and would enhance its efficient utilization.

The hotABA-deficiency suppressor2 （has2） mutation increases drought tolerance and the ABA sensitivity of stomata closure and seed germination. Here we report that the HAS2 locus encodes the mITOCHONDRIAL EDITING FACTOR11 （mEF11）, also known as LOVASTATIN INSENSITIVE1. has21mef11 mutants exhibited phenotypes very similar to the ABA-hypersensitive mutant, hail-1 pp2ca-1 hab 1-1 abil-2, which is impaired in four genes encoding type 2C protein phosphatases （PP2C） that act as upstream negative regulators of the ABA signaling cascade. Like pp2c, mef11 plants were more resistant to progressive water stress and seed germination was more sensitive to paclobutrazol （a gibberellin biosynthesis inhibitor） as well as mannitol and NaCI, compared with the wild-type plants. Phenotypic alterations in mef11 were associated with the lack of editing of transcripts for the mitochondrial cytochrome c maturation FN2 （cCmFN2） gene, which encodes a cytochrome c-heme lyase subunit involved in cytochrome c biogenesis. Although the abundance of electron transfer chain complexes was not affected, their dysfunction could be deduced from increased respiration and altered production of hydrogen peroxide and nitric oxide in reef11 seeds. As minor defects in mitochondrial respiration affect ABA signaling, this suggests an essential role for ABA in mitochondrial retrograde regulation.

Dust Suppression on Open Pit Drill Rigs--Case Study from Skorpion Zinc mine

Spotters and samplers around the drill rigs can be exposed to high dust concentrations. In this study it was found that individuals were exposed to as much as 14.2 mg/m3, which exceeds the OEL （Occupational Exposure Level） of 10 mg/m3 [1]. The work on which this paper is based included an extensive literature study, as well as field investigations. Number of additional dust suppression interventions was identified. These improvements, listed below, will assist in reducing dust concentrations arotmd the drill rigs： Increase maintenance frequency on the shroud, sealing ring, suction pipes and filters of the drill rigs. Design and install new overlapping rubber belts on the shroud of the Dm45. Install an air-blocking shelf on the inside perimeter of the shroud of the Dm45. Install an airflow meter to ensure that the Qc：QB ratio never drops below 3：1. Only allow wet drilling. Flush the dust collector system more regularly with compressed air to ensure that it does not become blocked. Introduce stricter supervision to ensure that the suction pipes are always connected to the shroud. Give drill rig operators more advanced training to ensure more effective drilling in order to reduce dust levels.

Oligodendroglial neoplasms with the -1p/-19q genotype are more indolent with longer survival and increased therapeutic responsiveness than those with intact 1p/19q, but the biological basis for these clinical differences is unclear. Recent research suggests that oligodendrogliomas with and without the -1p/-19q genotype may be distinguished by their magnetic resonance imaging (mRI) appearance, suggesting possible differences in growth characteristics. This study examined the relationship between genotype and histological growth patterns of oligodendroglial neoplasms in association with mR imaging characteristics. Tumour imaging features assessed on mRI included sharp-versus-indistinct border, smooth-versus-irregular contour, homogeneous-ver-sus-heterogeneous signal, contrast enhancement and paramagnetic susceptibility effect. Growth patterns (solid : mixed : infiltrative), tumour-margin transitions in cellularity and calcification were determined histopathologically. Allelic imbalance in chromosomes 1p36 and 19q13 was determined. Thirty-three oligodendrogliomas (25 with 1p/19q loss) and 53 oligoastrocytomas (18 with 1p/19q loss) were investigated. Solid, mixed or infiltrative growth patterns were seen in grade II and grade III tumours with or without 1p/19q loss, but infiltrative growth was more common in tumours with intact 1p/19q (χ2: P = 0.029). Grade III tumours were more likely to have a solid growth pattern (χ2: P = 0.046) associated with contrast enhancement (χ2: P = 0.011). Transition in cellularity at the radiological margin did not differ according to genotype. All cases with T1 or T2 signal homogeneity had intact 1p/19q. Tumours with sharp/smooth borders were more likely to have intact 1p/19q than those with indistinct/irregular borders (χ2:P mours with intact 1p/19q displaying distinctive mR imaging features that were unrelated to

Objective: Chronic pelvic pain is associated with a wide range of clinical conditions that include endometriosis. The precise cause, mechanisms of pain, and natural history are imprecise. Patterns of uterine innervation have been studied after hysterectomy for chronic pelvic pain with and without endometriosis. Study design: Tissue blocks were taken from the lower one half of the uterus after hysterectomy for advanced endometriosis (n = 16 specimens;group 1) and for chronic pelvic pain without endometriosis (n = 15 specimens; group 2). The control group consisted of uteri that were removed for painless gynecologic conditions (n = 25 specimens; group 3). Tissue sections from the lower one half of the uterus were stained with anti-S100 to demonstrate patterns of innervation, and nerve fiber profiles were counted by standardized techniques; qualitative differences were also recorded. Results: In uteri from women with advanced endometriosis, there were increased numbers of nerve fiber profiles compared with control specimens (group 1 vs group 3; P = .0013, mann Whitney U test). There were also increased numbers of nerve fiber profiles in uteri that were associated with chronic pelvic pain without endometriosis (group 2 vs group 3; P = .04, mann Whitney U test). There were no differences in nerve fiber count in uteri from groups 1 and 2 (P = .35, mann Whitney U test). Comparing both groups of uteri with controls (groups 1 and 2 vs 3) demonstrated marked differences in nerve fiber counts (P = .002, mann Whitney U test). Two distinctive patterns of reinnervation that were observed: disruption of nerve bundles (collateral sprouting with microneuroma formation) and ingrowth around blood vessels (perivascular nerve fiber proliferation).
