Use of Sewage Sludge After Liming as Fertilizer for maize Growth

The use of sewage sludge on agricultural land provides an alternative for its disposal. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the feasibility of using industrial sewage sludge produced in Pakistan, as an agricultural fertilizer. The agricultural soil amended with 250 g kg^-1 sewage sludge with or without lime treatment was used for the growth of the common local grain crop, maize （Zea maize）. The mobility of the trace and toxic metals in the sludge samples was assessed by applying a modified BCR sequential extraction procedure. The single extraction procedure was comprised of the application of a mild extractant （CaCl2） and water, for the estimation of the proportion of easily soluble metal fractions. To check the precision of the analytical results, the concentrations of trace and toxic metals in every step of the sequential extraction procedure were summed up and compared with total metal concentrations. The plant-available metal contents, as indicated by the deionized water and 0.01 mol L^-1 CaCl2 solution extraction fractions and the exchangeable fraction of the sequential extraction, decreased significantly （P 〈 0.05） with lime application because of the reduced metal availability at a higher pH, except in the cases of Cd and Cu, whose mobility was slightly increased. Sludge amendment enhanced the dry weight yield of maize and the increase was more obvious for the soil with lime treatment. Liming the sewage sludge reduced the trace and toxic metal contents in the grain tissues, except Cu and Cd, which were below the permissible limits of these metals. The present experiment demonstrates that liming was an important factor in facilitating the growth of maize in sludge-amended soil.

Forty Years of Air Temperature Change over Iran Reveals Linear and Nonlinear Warming

Spatiotemporal analysis of long-term changes in air temperature is of prime importance for climate change research and the development of effective mitigation and adaptation *** there are considerable studies on air temperature change across the globe,most of them have been on linear trends and time series analysis of nonlinear trends have not received enough ***,spatiotemporal patterns of monthly and annual mean(Tmean),maximum(T_(max)),and minimum(T_(min))air temperature at 47 synoptic stations across climate zones in Iran for a 40-yr period(1978–2017)are analyzed.A polynomial fitting scheme(Polytrend)is used to both monthly and annual air temperature data to detect trends and classify them into linear and nonlinear(quadratic and cubic)*** significant(non-significant)trends in Tmean,T_(max),and T_(min) across all climate zones are 41.1%(58.9%),34.1%(65.9%),and 46%(54%),*** highest magnitude of increasing trends is observed in the annual T_(min)(0.47℃decade−1)and the lowest magnitude is for the annual T_(max)(0.4℃decade−1).Across the country,increasing trends(=37.2%)have higher spatial coverage than the decreasing trends(=3.2%).Warming trends in Tmean(65.3%)and T_(min)(73.1%)are mainly observed in humid climate zone while warming trends in T_(max) are in semi-arid(43.9%)and arid(34.1%)*** change with a positive trend is predominant in all Tmean(56.7%),T_(max)(67.8%),and T_(min)(71.2%)and for both monthly and annual ***,the linear trends have the highest warming rate in annual T_(min)(0.83℃decade^(−1))and Tmean(0.46℃decade^(−1))whereas the nonlinear trends have the highest warming rate in annual T_(max)(0.52℃decade^(−1)).The linear trend type is predominant across the country especially in humid climate zones whereas the nonlinear trends(quadratic and cubic)are mainly observed in the arid climate *** study highlights nonlinear changes and spatiotemporal trends in air temperature in Iran an

Developing a mathematical assessment model for blasting patterns management: Sungun copper mine

Blasting is one of the most important operations in the mining projects that has effective role in the whole operation physically and economically. Unsuitable blasting pattern may lead to unwanted events such as poor fragmentation, back break and fly rock. multi attribute decision making(mADm) can be useful method for selecting the most appropriate blasting pattern among previously performed patterns. In this work, initially, from various already performed patterns, efficient and inefficient patterns are determined using data envelopment analysis(DEA). In the second step, after weighting impressive attributes using experts' opinion, elimination Et choice translating reality(ELECTRE) was used for ranking the efficient patterns and recognizing the most appropriate pattern in the Sungun Copper mine, Iran. According to the obtained results, blasting pattern with the hole diameter of 15.24 cm, burden of 3 m, spacing of 4 m and stemming of 3.2 m has selected as the best pattern and has selected for future operation.

microstructure and mechanical properties of AA6063 aluminum alloy wire fabricated by friction stir back extrusion(FSBE) process

In the present work,the friction stir back extrusion(FSBE)process was used as a novel method for the fabrication of AA6063 aluminum alloy *** electron microscopy(SEm)equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS),tensile and hardness tests were *** FSBE via the rotational speed of 475 r/min resulted in fine equiaxed grains,and the mean grain size decreased from 179.0μm to 15.5μm due to the occurrence of dynamic recrystallization(DRX).Heat generated by the FSBE changed the size and volume fraction of the mg2Si precipitated *** minimum particle size and maximum volume fraction obtained in the sample were processed by rotational speeds of 475 and 600 r/min,*** 475-r/min sample had the maximum hardness value due to having the lowest grain size(i.e.,15.5μm)and the presence of many fine mg2Si precipitates in the aluminum *** increasing rotational speed up to 600 r/min,the hardness decreased,owing to the growth of both grains and *** FSBE process with a rotational speed of 475 r/min increased the tensile strength(from 150 to 209 mPa)and ductility(from 21.0%to 30.2%)simultaneously.

CONCURRENT PRODUCTION ENGINEERING SYSTEm FOR BUFFER SIZE AND FLEXIBLE TRANSFER LINE LAYOUT DESIGN

In this paper we propose a COncurrent Production Engineering System （COPES） for the flexible transfer line （FTL） layout design in a restricted area. COPES first determines the buffer size in front of the bay of each machine tool in the FTL and then initializes a computer aided design （CAD） system to draw the FTL in a restricted area. We develop a set of modules systems which have been integrated into a single framework, in accordance with the practice of concurrent engineering. Concurrent engineering involves the cooperation of these activities. It＇s expected that the developed COPES can improve the cooperation between production engineers＇ and the plant designer. This can be done by enabling the production engineers＇ to make better decision regarding FTL buffer size.

Influences of anionic and cationic dopants on the morphology and optical properties of PbS nanostructures

Selenium and zinc are used as anionic and cationic dopant elements to dope PbS nanostructures. The undoped and doped PbS nanostructures are grown using a thermal evaporation method. Scanning electron microscopy （SEm） results show similar morphologies for the undoped and doped PbS nanostructures. X-ray diffraction （XRD） patterns of three sets of the nanostructures indicate that these nanostructures each have a PbS structure with a cubic phase. Evidence of dopant incorporation is demonstrated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）. Raman spectra of the synthesized samples con- firm the XRD results and indicate five Raman active modes, which relate to the PbS cubic phase for all the nanostructures. Room temperature photoluminescence （PL） and UV-Vis spectrometers are used to study optical properties of the undoped and doped PbS nanostructures. Optical characterization shows that emission and absorption peaks are in the infrared （IR） region of the electromagnetic spectrum for all PbS nanostructures. In addition, the optical studies of the doped PbS nanos- tructures reveal that the band gap of the Se-doped PbS is smaller, and the band gap of the Zn-doped PbS is bigger than the band gap of the undoped PbS nanostructures.

Comparison of Different Extraction Approaches for Heavy metal Partitioning in Sediment Samples

Three extraction methods, ultrasonic assisted extraction (USE), microwave assisted extraction (mSE), and conventional single extraction (CSE), in conjunction with the modified three-stage BCR sequential extraction procedure (SEP) were applied to examine the contents of Cd, Cu, Cr, Ni, Pb and Zn from lake sediment samples, to know whether these techniques can reduce extraction time and improve reproducibility. The SEP and developed alternative single extrac- tion methods were validated by the analysis of certified reference material BCR 601. By the use of optimized sonication and microwave conditions, steps 1, 2 and 3 of the BCR sequential extraction methods (excluding the hydrogen peroxide digestion in step 3, which was not performed with sonication and microwave) could be completed in 15-30 min and 60- 150 s, respectively. The recoveries of total extractable metal contents in BCR 601, obtained by three single extractions ranged from 93.3%-102%, 88.9%-104% and 81.2%-96.2% for CSE, USE and mSE, respectively. The precision of the single extraction methods was found in the range of 3.7%-9.4% for all metals (n = 6).

提出一种基于能量守恒原理的纵联差动保护,对线路两端或母线各端的有功功率进行比较,若各端功率的和超出整定值,则判定为区内故障。在典型400 kV输电系统模型上,运用mATLAB仿真软件对所提出的原理进行了仿真验证。仿真结果表明,该方法比传统电流比率差动保护更加可靠且计算量小,因而可缩短动作时间。该方法能检测所有故障类型,适应于超高压远距离输电线路。

Posterior lingual lidocaine: A novel method to improve tolerance in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy

AIm: To evaluate the effect of posterior lingual lidocaine swab on patient tolerance to esophagogastro-duodenoscopy, the ease of performance of the procedure, and to determine if such use will reduce the need for intravenous sedation. mETHODS: Eighty patients undergoing diagnostic esophagogastroduodenoscopy in a tertiary care medical center were randomized to either lidocaine swab or spray. Intravenous meperidine and midazolam were given as needed during the procedure. RESULTS: Patients in the lidocaine swab group (SWG) tolerated the procedure better than those in the spray group (SPG) with a median tolerability score of 2 (1, 4) compared to 4 (2, 5) (P ming the proceduresin the SWG with lower median difficulty scores of 1 (1, 5) compared to 4 (1, 5) in the SPG (P mpared to the SPG with fewer patients requiring intravenous sedation (13/40 patients vs 38/40 patients, respectively, P more satisfi ed with the mode of local anesthesia they received as compared to the SPG. In addition, the endoscopists were happier with the use of lidocaine swab. CONCLUSION: The use of a posterior lingual lidocaine swab in esophagogastroduodenoscopy improves patient comfort and tolerance and endoscopist satisfaction and decreases the need for intravenous sedation.
