Barotropic boundary conditions and tide forcing in split-explicit high resolution coastal ocean models

A persisting problem in ocean modeling around coastal areas has been the adequate imposition of open boundary conditions,especially in the presence of complex bathymetric features commonly found in shelf *** models with horizontal resolutions of O(1 km)can generate submesoscale current variability not captured by coarser regional models which resolve mesoscale flows approximately in geostrophic and thermal-wind *** practice,higher-resolution systems will provide analyses with enhanced spatial detail but may be less skillful at predicting the evolution of mesoscale *** study aims at assessing the role of open boundary conditions,tidal forcing and tide filtering techniques in a coastal ocean model using a split-explicit time marching scheme with horizontal resolutions of O(1 km)and its effect in coastal sea level dynamics and ocean *** experiments have been performed using the Regional Ocean modeling System(ROmS)with different uniform horizontal resolution:3.6km,1.2km and *** and lateral boundary conditions are derived from the *** Oceanographic Office(NAVOCEANO)operational AmSeas model forecast,a 3.6-km resolution application of the regional Navy Coastal Ocean model(NCOm)that encompasses the Gulf of mexico and Caribbean *** conditions are interpolated from the Navy’s Coastal Ocean-Atmosphere mesoscale Prediction System(COAmPS)model with the exception of surface stresses,which are computed from a 2-km application of the Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF)model used by National Center for Environmental Protection’s(NCEP)National Digital Forecast Database(NDFD).Tidal variability is imposed in two ways:1)by specifying the time evolution of sea level at the open boundaries and 2)spectrally by specifying the harmonic phases and amplitudes from the TPXO global inverse tide solutions at the ***-tidal low frequency conditions are imposed by filtering high frequencies out of the regional NCOm solut

＜正＞It is now widely accepted that G protein-coupled receptors, including the adrenoceptors can form dimers or higher order-oligomers. The objectives of these studies were to develop and employ approaches suitable to explore whether this was true at all stages in their life history. Using combinations of co-immunoprecipitation, both ’two colour’ and ’three colour’ fluorescence resonance energy transfer imaging, bi-molecular fluorescence complementation and the use of pairs of wild type receptors and Receptors Activated Solely by Synthetic Ligands we have obtained evidence of adrenoceptor quaternary structure at all stages between synthesis in the ER/Golgi, to their internalis ation from the cell surface, either constitutively or in response to agonist ligands. Furthermore, at least a proportion of the α1B-adrenoceptor population is an oligomer rather than a dimer. Disruption of oligomerisation of this receptor eliminates cell surface delivery and signal transduction by interfering with core glycosylation.

An integrative insight into the synsacral canal of fossil and extant Antarctic penguins

The lumbosacral-canal system in birds most likely operates as a sense organ involved in the control of balanced walking and perching,but our knowledge of it is superﬁ*** constitute interesting objects for the study of this system due to their upright walking,but only the Humboldt penguin,Spheniscus humboldti,and some incomplete fossil penguin synsacra have been studied in this ***,we give an integrative comparative in-sight into the synsacral canal of extant Emperor penguin,Aptenodytes forsteri,Adelie penguin,Pygoscelis adeliae,and Eocene giant Anthropornis and/or Palaeeudyptes Antarctic penguins,using computed tomography imaging and associated data-extraction methodologies,complemented by analytical approaches ranging from geometric morphometrics to modularity,curvature,and wavelet *** document that the variability in the number of synsacro-lumbar vertebrae is evolutionarily conserved,and all studied synsacra possess osteological correlates of the lumbosacral-canal *** also found that Eocene and extant Antarctic penguins were separable on the basis of the main direction of the shape-related(size-independent)variability within said system,and *** was unique in the entire studied set in terms of the relative cranial shift of this compound ***,we suggest that the evolutionary processes,shaping both the terrestrial posture and gait,were responsible,in extant penguins,for the increased simplicity and stability of the synsacral canal cross-sectional periodic patterns,as well as pave the way for the lumbosacral-canal system modularity characterized by reduced atomization/complexity.

Theoretical Distribution of Gutta-percha within Root canals Filled Using Cold Lateral Compaction Based on Numeric Calculus

This study aimed to present a new method based on numeric calculus to provide data on the theoretical volume ratio of voids when using the cold lateral compaction technique in canals with various diameters and tapers. Twenty-one simulated mathematical root canal models were created with different tapers and sizes of apical diameter, and were filled with defined sizes of standardized accessory gutta-percha cones. The areas of each master and accessory gutta-percha cone as well as the depth of their insertion into the canals were determined mathematically in microsoft Excel. When the first accessory gutta-percha cone had been positioned, the residual area of void was measured. The areas of the residual voids were then measured repeatedly upon insertion of additional accessary cones until no more could be inserted in the canal. The volume ratio of voids was calculated through measurement of the volume of the root canal and mass of gutta-percha cones. The theoretical volume ratio of voids was influenced by the taper of canal, the size of apical preparation and the size of accessory gutta-percha cones. Greater apical preparation size and larger taper together with the use of smaller accessory cones reduced the volume ratio of voids in the apical third. The mathematical model provided a precise method to determine the theoretical volume ratio of voids in root-filled canals when using cold lateral compaction.

Cone-beam computed tomography analysis of curved root canals after mechanical preparation with three nickel-titanium rotary instruments

Cone beam computed tomography is a 3-dimensional high resolution imaging method. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of 3 different NiTi rotary instruments used to prepare curved root canals on the final shape of the curved canals and total amount of root canal transportation by using cone-beam computed tomography. A total of 81 mesial root canals from 42 extracted human mandibular molars, with a curvature ranging from 15 to 45 degrees, were selected. canals were randomly divided into 3 groups of 27 each. After preparation with Protaper, Revo-S and Hero Shaper, the amount of transportation and centering ability that occurred were assessed by using cone beam computed tomography. Utilizing preand post-instrumentation radiographs, straightening of the canal curvatures was determined with a computer image analysis program. canals were metrically assessed for changes （surface area, changes in curvature and transportation） during canal preparation by using software SimPlant; instrument failures were also recorded. mean total widths and outer and inner width measurements were determined on each central canal path and differences were statistically analyzed. The results showed that all instruments maintained the original canal curvature well with no significant differences between the different files （P=0.226）. During preparation there was failure of only one file （the protaper group）. In conclusion, under the conditions of this study, all instruments maintained the original canal curvature well and were safe to use. Areas of uninstrumented root canal wall were left in all regions using the various systems.

Effect of restoration technique on resistance to fracture of endodontically treated anterior teeth with flared root canals

This study was designed to compare the impact of post and core systems on resistance to fracture of endodontically treated anterior teeth with flared root canals and to assess their fracture pattern. Sixty central incisors were cut horizontally 2 mm coronal to the cementoenamel junction(CEJ). After root canal therapy, teeth were assigned into 6 groups(n = 10 each) based on a post system and used as follows: Group C, non-flared root received size #1 glass fiber posts(Control); Group AP, flared root restored with anatomical post; Group RC, flared root restored with size #1 fiber post and cemented with thick layer of resin cement; Group CR, flared root restored with size #1 and reinforced with composite resin; Group Cm, cast post-core; Group CP, CAD/CAm polymer-infiltrated ceramic post and *** post cementation, core build-up and crown insertion, the specimens were thermo-cycled up to 10,000 cycles(5 C/55 C; 30 seconds dwell time, 6 seconds transition time) and then statically loaded at 1 mm/minute crosshead speed using a universal testing machine. One-way ANOVA and Tukey HSD post hoc test(α= 0.05) were used for data analysis. Group C recorded significantly higher resistance to fracture values [(826.9±39.1) N] followed by group CP [(793.8±55.6) N] while group RC yielded the lowest fracture resistance values [(586.7±51.4) N]. The resistance to fracture of wide root canals can be enhanced by using one-piece CAm/CAm post and core as an alternative to the use of either glass fiber post, relined with composite resin increasing the thickness of luting cement or the use of cast post and core system. However, this was an in vitro investigation and further in vivo studies are necessary.

The Indus Plains of Pakistan lies between 23°to 37°latitude and 61°to 76°longi-tude in the northern hemisphere. The total Canal Commanded Area (CCA) is about 13.50million hectares of which 11.21 million hectares are cultivated. At present, 103 millionacre-feet river flow is diverted into irrigation canals. In addition, 42 million acre feet of thegroundwater are being pumped through 257697 tubewells to supplement the canal supplies.

BACKGROUND The presence of dens invaginatus(DI)complicates treatment of any tooth,from diagnosis to access cavity and biomechanical preparation and *** of successful non-surgical management of DI type IIIB in maxillary lateral incisor are ***,we report such a case,with three root canals and a long *** SUmmARY A 13-year-old female patient presented with mild pain in the maxillary right lateral incisor(#7)for 10-15 *** examination,the tooth was slightly rotated,with slight tenderness on percussion and grade I mobility but with no caries,pockets or restorations and non-vital pulp(via vitality tests).Radiographic examination revealed unusual configuration of the tooth’s root canals,with an enamel-lined invagination extending to the apex,suggesting the possibility of DI Oehler’s type IIIB and a periapical *** the access cavity lingually revealed one distinct buccal orifice and two distinct palatal orifices;under higher magnification of a dental operating microscope(DOm),the mesio palatal and disto-palatal orifices were observed as connected by a C-shaped *** root canals were prepared with hand K-files following a step-back technique,and obturated using a combination technique of lateral condensation and vertical *** the 6-year follow-up,the patient was asymptomatic,and the periapical radiography displayed significant healing around the apical end of the *** Proper knowledge of unusual root canal anatomy is required in treating *** methods of root canal treatment can successfully resolve such complex cases,facilitated by DOm and cone-beam computed tomography.
