Soil microbial Biomass After Three-Year Consecutive Composted Tannery Sludge Amendment

Brazilian industry produces huge amounts of tannery sludge as residues,which is often disposed by landfilling or land ***,consecutive amendment of such composted industrial wastes may cause shifts in soil microbial biomass(SmB) and enzyme *** study aimed to evaluate SmB and enzyme activity after 3-year consecutive composted tannery sludge(CTS) amendment in tropical sandy *** amounts of CTS(0.0,2.5,5.0,10.0,and 20.0 t ha^(-1)) were applied to a sandy *** C and N contents of SmB,basal and substrate-induced respiration,respiratory quotient(qCO_2),and enzyme activities were determined in the soil samples collected after CTS amendment for 60 d at the third *** 3 years,significant changes were found in soil microbial properties in response to different CTS amounts *** organic matter and Cr contents significantly increased with increasing CTS *** and soil respiration peaked following amendment with 10.0 and 20.0 t ha-1 of CTS,respectively,while qCO_2was not significantly affected by CTS ***,soil enzyme activity decreased significantly with increasing CTS *** CTS amendment for 3 years showed inconsistent and contrasting effects on SmB and enzyme *** decrease in soil enzyme activities was proportional to a substantial increase in soil Cr concentration,with the latter exceeding the permitted concentrations by more than ***,our results suggest that a maximum CTS quantity of 5.0 t ha^(-1) can be applied annually to tropical sandy soil,without causing potential risks to SmB and enzyme activity.

先天性长QT综合征(LQTS)是发病率在1/2 500左右的恶性遗传性心脏疾病。LQTS的典型心脏表现包括可导致心脏骤停和心脏猝死的晕厥发作,以及包括QT间期延长和T波异常在内的心电图异常。90年代中期,LQTS的治病基因被首次发现,至今已有13型被确认。致病基因主要是离子通道和转运相关蛋白。对于具有典型特征的患者,医生并无诊断困难。对于模棱两可的病例,需要参照特殊诊断标准,比如心电图,病史和家族史等等。此外,基因扫描正日益成为诊断过程的一部分。除非有明确的禁忌证,治疗上还是要首选β受体阻滞剂。若在接受足量β受体阻滞剂期间,还有1次以上的晕厥,需立即采取左侧交感神经切除术,并根据病人特征(年龄、性别、临床病史、24 h Holter在内的心电图特征、基因表型等)考虑安装埋藏式心脏转复除颤器。病人接受适当治疗后,一般预后较好。但是LQTS8(Timothy综合征)病人,携带KCNQ1突变的Jervel Lange-Nielsen综合征患者,以及伴有2∶1房室传导阻滞,病窦综合征或Brugada综合征的LQT3病患的预后极其不容乐观。

Cancer patient care requires a multi-disciplinary approach and multiple medical and ethical *** care during a pandemic health crisis requires prioritising the use of resources for patients with a greater chance of survival,especially in developing *** coronavirus disease 2019 crisis has generated new challenges given that cancer patients are normally not prioritised for admission in critical care ***,the development of new cancer drugs and novel adjuvant/neoadjuvant protocols has dramatically improved the prognosis of cancer patients,resulting in a more complex decision-making when prioritising intensive care in pandemic *** this context,it is essential to establish an effective and transparent communication between the oncology team,critical care,and emergency units to make the best decisions,considering the principles of justice and ***,cancer treatment protocols must be adapted to prioritise according to oncologic response and *** technologies are powerful tools to optimise cancer care during pandemics,and we must adapt quickly to this new scenario of clinical care and *** this new challenging pandemic scenario,multi-disciplinary work and effective communication between clinics,technology,science,and ethics is the key to optimising clinical care of cancer patients.

microbial fuel cell(mFC) is an advanced bioelectrochemical technique that can utilize biomass materials in the process of simultaneously generating electricity and biodegrading or bio transforming toxic pollutants from wastewater. The overall performance of the system is largely dependent on the efficiency of the anode electrode to enhance electron transportation. Furthermore, the anode electrode has a significant impact on the overall cost of mFC setup. Hence, the need to explore research focused towards developing cost-effective material as anode in mFC. This material must also have favourable properties for electron transportation. Graphene oxide(GO) derivatives and its modification with nanomaterials have been identified as a viable anode material. Herein, we discussed an economically effective strategy for the synthesis of graphene derivatives from waste biomass materials and its subsequent fabrication into anode electrode for mFC applications. This review article offers a promising approach towards replacing commercial graphene materials with biomass-derived graphene derivatives in a view to achieve a sustainable and commercialized mFC.

Currently, alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is one of the most prevalent chronic liver diseases worldwide, representing one of the main etiologies of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Although we do not know the exact mechanisms by which only a selected group of patients with ALD progress to the final stage of HCC, the role of the gut microbiota within the progression to HCC has been intensively studied in recent years. To date, we know that alcohol-induced gut dysbiosis is an important feature of ALD with important repercussions on the severity of this disease. In essence, an increased metabolism of ethanol in the gut induced by an excessive alcohol consumption promotes gut dysfunction and bacterial overgrowth, setting a leaky gut. This causes the translocation of bacteria, endotoxins, and ethanol metabolites across the enterohepatic circulation reaching the liver, where the recognition of the pathogen-associated molecular patterns via specific Toll-like receptors of liver cells will induce the activation of the nuclear factor kappa-B pathway, which releases pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. In addition, the mitogenic activity of hepatocytes will be promoted and cellular apoptosis will be inhibited, resulting in the development of HCC. In this context, it is not surprising that microbiota-regulating drugs have proven effectiveness in prolonging the overall survival of patients with HCC, making attractive the implementation of these drugs as co-adjuvant for HCC treatment.

Objective:To assess the relaxant effect of several organic extracts obtained from Agastache mexicana(***),Cochlospermum vitifolium(***),Cordia morelosana(***),Lepechinia caulescens(***)and Talauma mexicana(71 mexicana)used in mexican traditional medicine for the treatment of several ***:Extracts were obtained by maceration at room temperature using hexane,dicliloromethane and methanol for each plant *** organic extracts were evaluated ex vivo to determine their relaxant activity on the contractions induced by carbaehol(cholinergic receptor agonist,1μmol/L in isolated rat tracheal ***:A total of 15 extracts were evaluated(three for each species).All test samples showed significant relaxant effect,in a concentration-dependent manner,on the contractions induced by 1μmol/L carbachol,with exception of extracts from *** extracts were less potent than theophylline[phosphodiesterase inhibitor,EC_(50):(28.79±0.82)μg/mL]that was used as positive ***-response curves revealed that the extracts with more significant effects were dichloromethanic extracts of ***[E_(max):(103.03±3.32)%and EC_(50):(159.39±3.72)μg/mL)and ***[Emax:(106.58±2.42)%and EC_(50):(219.54±7.61)μg/mL].Finally,hexanic and dichloromethanic extracts from *** were fully effective but less potent than ***,and ***:Less polar extracts obtained from ***,71 mexicana and *** exhibited greater relaxant effect on tracheal rat rings,which allows us to suggest them as sources for the isolation of bioactive molecules with potential therapeutic value in the treatment of asthma.

The number of people with food allergy(FA)has increased in recent decades,as has the number of foods to which they are *** of FA prevalence vary widely,likely because of different definitions,evaluated foods and geo-graphic *** developed countries,overall preva-lence estimates range from 1.9%to 7.2%[1,2].In Latin America,the prevalence of FA in children is between 1.4%and 5.3%[3-6],with important age-based variations(from 1.9%in infants to 0.4%in preschoolers)[7].FA is a complex trait in which the interplay of genetic and environmental fac-tors results in disease ***-known factors that increase atopic susceptibility include sex[8,9],age[10],and socioeconomic status[11-13].Furthermore,the asso-ciation between family history of allergies and childhood FA has been consistently reported in recent ***,a maternal history of allergic disease appears to be more strongly associated with FA than paternal history of atopy[14].
