Quantitative Analysis of Geomorphometric Parameters of Wadi Kerak, Jordan, Using Remote Sensing and GIS

Geomorphometric analysis was carried out to illustrate the drainage characteristics and morphology of Wadi Kerak watershed, southern Jordan. The basic and derived morphometric parameters (linear, areal and relief aspects of drainage network) for the basin were determined using ASTER DEm (30 m resolution) and Geographic Information System (GIS). These parameters describe the basin drainage network, geometry, texture, and relief characteristics. The hypsometric curve, hypsometric integral and clinographic curve were also prepared using topographic maps of 1:50,000 scale. Findings have revealed that W. Kerak is in the youth-age stage of geomorphic evolution. Fluvial erosion associated with successive phases of rejuvenation plays a significant role in drainage basin development, whereas structure and tectonics, lithology and relief dictate the drainage pattern and morphological setting of the catchment. The drainage area of the watershed is 190.9 km2 and constitutes a 5th-order drainage basin. The commonly observed drainage patterns are the trellis type, with sub-dendritic pattern recognized in the upper catchment. The drainage pattern, and the semi-linear alignment of main and branching drainage indicate the prominent influence of the Kerak-Al-fiha fault system on the drainage network. High dissection, relative relief, relief ratio, steep slopes and breaks of slopes are characteristic of W. Kerak. morphometric analysis reveals that four rejuvenation phases caused severe erosion and down cutting activity in the past, and it is still susceptible to surface erosion at present.

In vivo anticancer activity of vanillin,benzophenone and acetophenone thiosemicarbazones on Swiss albino mice

Objective:To study the anticancer activities of three schiff bases *** thiosemicarbazone,benzophenone thiosemicarbazone and acetophenone thiosemicarbazone against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma(EAC)cells in Swiss albino ***:Synthesized compounds have administrated into the intraperitoneal cavity of the EAC inoculated mice at two *** anticancer activities have studied by monitoring the parameters such as cell growth inhibition,tumor weight m.a.urement,survival time of EAC bearing mice as well as the changes in depleted hematological parameters due to *** such data have been com.a.ed with those of a known standard drug bleomycin at the dose of 0.3 mg/kg(i.p.).Results:It has been found that these bases enhanced life span,reduced average tumor weight and inhibited tumor cell growth of EAC cell bearing mice *** results were similar in potency to those obtained with *** was also found that the depleted hematological parameters(red blood count,white blood count and haemoglobin content)were found to be restored gradually towards normal within few weeks after ceasing the ***:The compounds can be primarily considered more or less as potent anticancer agents.

A reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was developed, validated, and used for the quantitative determination of gatifloxacin (GA) and ambroxol hydrochloride (Am), from its tablet dosage form. Chromatographic separation was performed on a HiQ Sil C18 column (250 mm×4.6 mm, 5 μm), with a mobile phase comprising of a mixture of 0.01 mol/L potassium dihydrogen orthophosphate buffer and acetonitrile (70∶30, v/v), and pH adjusted to 3 with orthophosphoric acid, at a flow rate of 1 mL/min, with detection at 247 nm. Separation was completed in less than 10 min. As per International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH) guidelines the method was validated for linearity, accuracy, precision, limit of quantitation, limit of detection, and robustness. Linearity of GA was found to be in the range of 10-60 μg/mL and that for Am was found to be 5-30 μg/mL. The correlation coefficients were 0.999 6 and 0.999 3 for GA and Am respectively. The results of the tablet analysis (n=5) were found to be 99.94% with ±0.25% standard deviation (SD) and 99.98% with±0.36% SD for GA and Am respectively. Percent recovery of GA was found to be 99.92%-100.02% and that of Am was 99.86%-100.16%. The assay experiment shows that the method is free from interference of excipients. This demonstrates that the developed HPLC method is simple, linear, precise, and accurate, and can be conveniently adopted for the routine quality control analysis of the tablet.

Facile Synthesis of Nitriles and Amides from.a.dehyde over Heterogeneous Reusable Copper Fluorapatite (CuFAP) Catalyst under Neat Reaction Condition

A new robust heterogeneous, versatile, an environmentally benign, eco-friendly, recyclable CuFAP catalyst has been developed for the direct synthesis of nitriles and amides from.a.dehydes at 100°C for 6 h and 4 h, respectively, under neat reaction condition using hydroxylamine hydrochloride in the presence and the absence of tosyl chloride, respectively. Also the recyclability of catalyst as well as influence of solvents, additives on catalysts performance was investigated. The protocol can be considered as an alternative to conventional method for the synthesis of nitriles and amides in good to excellent yields. A highlight of our protocol is the easy separation of catalyst from reaction mixture, hence the catalyst is reused several times without significant loss of its catalytic activity.

Above-Ground Biomass, Nutrients and Carbon in Aegiceras corniculatum of the Sundarbans

Aegiceras corniculatum grows as single-stemmed evergreen shrub or small tree in the Sundarbans mangrove forest of Bangladesh. The objectives of this study were to derive the allometric models for estimating above-ground biomass, nutrients (N, P and K) and carbon stock in A. corniclatum. A total of 8 linear models (y = aX + b, , y = aLogX + b, Logy = aX + b, Logy = aLogX + b, y = alnX + b, Lny = aX + b and Lny = alnX + b) with 64 regression equations were tested to derive the allometric model for biomass of each plant part;and nutrients and carbon stock in total aboveground biomass. The best fit allometric models were selected by considering the values of R2, CV, Rmse, mSerror, Sa, Sb, F value, AICc and Furnival Index. The selected allometric models were Logbiomass = 0.76LogDBH2 - 1.39;Biomass = 0.07DBH2 - 0.49;Logbiomass = 1.04LogDBH2 - 1.80;Logbiomass = 1.04LogDBH2 - 0.99;= 0.48DBH - 0.13 for leaves, branches, bark, stem without bark and total above-ground biomass respectively. The selected allometric models for Nitrogen, Phosphorous, Potassium.a.d Carbon stock in total above-ground biomass were = 0.67DBH + 0.11;= 0.94DBH + 0.08;= 1.06DBH - 0.18;= 0.33DBH - 0.09 respectively.

Objective:To evaluate the performance of preliminary phytochemical,antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of Dracaena cinnabari Balf.f.(Agavaceae)(***)resin,collected from Socotra Island(Yemen).methods:The powdered stem resin is extracted with different solvents by using Soxhlet apparatus and evaluated for antioxidant and antimicrobial activity against three Gram positive bacteria(Bacillus cereus NCIm 2106,Staphylococcus aureus NCIm 2127,and micrococcus luteus NCIm 2169),seven Gram negative bacteria(Escherichia coli NCIm 2924,Pseudomonas aeruginosa NCIm 2863,Salmonella typhimurium NCIm 2501,Klebsiella aerogenes NCIm 2281,Proteus morganii NCIm 2860,Escherichia coli dh5α,Escherichia coli CSH)and three fungi(Candida albicans mTCC 227,Aspergillus flavus mTCC 873,Aspergillus niger mTCC 1781).Results:The antimicrobial activity data revealed that,the selected microorganisms possess varied sensitivity response to chloroform extract followed by methanol and benzene extract of *** stem *** samples also possess a potent DPPH,OH and SO radical scavenging *** addition,the preliminary phytochemical analysis demonstrated the presence of alkaloids,flavonoids,terpenoids and other organic compounds which could be reason for antimicrobial activities of *** ***:The present study is strengthened for the discovery and development of new antioxidant and antimicrobial drugs from *** resin which encourage us to continue with pure fractions.
