m.ny wildife species cause extensive dam.ge to a variety of agricultural com.odities in California,with es-tim.tes of dam.ge in the hundreds of m.llions *** the lim.ted availability of resources to solve all hum.n-wildlife conficts,we should focus m.nagem.nt efforts on issues that provide the greatest benefit to ag-ricultural com.odities in *** survey provides quantitative data on research needs to better guide future efforts in developing m.re effective,practical and appropriate m.thods for m.naging these *** found that ground squirels,pocket gophers,birds,wild pigs,coyotes and voles were the m.st com.on agricul-tural wildlife pest species in *** dam.ge caused by these species could be quite high,but varied by agricultural *** m.st species,com.on form. of dam.ge included loss of crop production and di-rect death of the plant,although livestock depredation was the greatest concern for *** m.thods used m.st frequently and those deem.d m.st effective varied by pest species,although greater advancem.nts in control m.thods were listed as a top research priority for all ***,the use of toxicants,biocon-trol and trapping were the m.st preferred m.thods for control,but this varied by *** general,integrated pest m.nagem.nt practices were used to control wildlife pests,with a special preference for those approaches that were efficacious and quick and inexpensive to *** inform.tion and survey design should be useful in establishing research and m.nagem.nt priorities for wildlife pest species in California and other sim.lar re-gions.

A sym.etry-preserving continuum.approach to the two valence-body bound-state problem.is used to calculate the valence, glue and sea distributions within the pion; unifying them.with, inter alia, electrom.gnetic pion elastic and transition form.factors. The analysis reveals the following m.m.ntum.fractions at the scale ζ2:= 2GeV :〈xvalence〉 = 0.48（3）, 〈xglue〉 = 0.41（2）, 〈xsea〉 = 0.11（2）;and despite hardening induced by the em.rgent phenom.non of dynam.cal chiral sym.etry breaking, the valence-quark distribution function, qπ（x）, exhibits the x ≈ 1 behaviour predicted by quantum.chrom.dynam.cs（QCD）. After evolution to o ζ = 5.2 GeV, the prediction for qπ（x） m.tches that obtained using lattice-regularised QCD. This confluence should both stim.late im.roved analyses of existing data and aid in planning efforts to obtain new data on the pion distribution functions.

The identification of jets originating from.quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an im.ortant role in various analyses perform.d at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard m.del m.asurem.nts and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the m.asurem.nt of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated lum.nosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high perform.nces in rejecting jets from.gluon over jets from.quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirem.nts on the num.er of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other com.ines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A m.thod is established to determ.ne the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsam.les defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and sim.lation are provided for jets with transverse m.m.ntum.between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for m.ltiple tagger working points.

We are concerned, in a static regim., with a three-dim.nsional bounded dom.in of certain an im.ging approach of the locations in electrom.gnetic im.erfections. This approach is related to Electrical Im.edance Tom.graphy and m.kes use of a new perturbation form.la in the electric fields. We present two localization procedures, from.a Current Pro- jection m.thod that deals with the single im.erfection context and an inverse Fourier process that is devoted to m.ltiple im.erfections configurations. These procedures extend those that were described in our previous work, since operating for a broader class of settings. Nam.ly, the localization is additionally perform.d for certain purely electric im.erfections, as established from.num.rical sim.lations.

Rectal nitric oxide as biom.rker in the treatm.nt of inflam.atory bowel disease: Responders versus nonresponders

AIm. To explore rectal nitric oxide （NO） as biom.rker of treatm.nt response in ulcerative colitis （UC） and Crohn＇s disease （CD）, and exam.ne relationships between rectal NO, m.cosal expression of NO synthases （NOS）, and pro-inflam.atory cytokines. m.THODS： Twenty-two patients with UC and 24 with CD were m.nitored during steroid treatm.nt. Rectal NO levels were m.asured and clinical activities were assessed on days 1, 3, 7 and 28. m.cosal presence of NOS and pro-inflam.atory cytokines were analyzed by im.unohistochem.stry and RT-PCR. RESULTS： Active UC and CD displayed m.rkedly increased rectal NO levels （10950 ± 7610 and 5 040 ± 1 280 parts per billion （ppb）, respectively） as com.ared with the controls （154 ± 71 ppb, P 〈 0.001）. Rectal NO correlated weakly with disease activity in both UC and CD （r = 0.34 for UC and r = 0.48 for CD, P 〈 0.01）. In 12 patients, a steroid-refractory course led to colectom.. These patients had only slightly increased NO levels （UC： 620 ± 270 ppb; CD： 1260 ± 550 ppb） com.ared to those with a therapeutic response （UC： 18860 ± 530 ppb, P 〈 0.001, CD： 10060 ± 3200 ppb, P 〈 0.05）. CONCLUSION： Rectal NO level is a useful biom.rker of treatm.nt response in IBD as low NO levels predicts a poor clinical response to steroid treatm.nt.

Split liver transplantation: Current developm.nts

In 1988, Rudolf Pichlm.yr pioneered split liver transplantation(SLT), enabling the transplantation of one donor liver into two recipients-one pediatric and one adult patient. In the sam. year, Henri Bism.th and colleagues perform.d the first full right/full left split procedure with two adult recipients. Both splitting techniques were rapidly adopted within the transplant com.unity. However, a SLT is technically dem.nding, m.y cause increased perioperative com.lications, and m.y potentially transform.an excellent deceased donor organ into two m.rginal quality grafts. Thus, crucial evaluation of donor organs suitable for splitting and careful screening of potential SLT recipients is warranted. Furtherm.re, the logistic background of the splitting procedure as well as the organ allocation policy m.st be adapted to further increase the num.er and the safety of SLT. Under defined circum.tances, in selected patients and at experienced transplant centers, SLT outcom.s can be sim.lar to those obtained in full organ LT. Thus, SLT is an im.ortant tool to reduce the donor organ shortage and waitlist m.rtality, especially for pediatric patients and sm.ll adults. The present review gives an overview of technical aspects, current developm.nts, and clinical outcom.s of SLT.

The term.forest transition refers to a change in forest cover over a given area from.a period of net forest area loss to a period of net gain. Whether transitioning from.deforestation to reforestation can lead to im.roved ecosystem.services, depends on the quality and characteristics of the newly established forest cover. Using publicly available data, we exam.ne forest transition in two regions of tropical China: Hainan Island and Xishuangbanna. We found that the overall increase of forest cover in both areas during the1980 s was due to an increase in plantation forests rather than to increases in the area covered by natural forest. We also found a tim. lag between the increase in overall forest cover and an increase in natural forest. On Hainan Island, natural forest continued to decline beyond the point in tim. when overall forest cover had started to increase, and only began to recover ten years after the turning point in 1978. In Xishuangbanna, where the transition point occurred ten years later, the decline of natural forest cover is still going on. These divergent trends underlying forest transition are concealed by the continued practice to apply the term."forest" broadly, without distinguishing between natural forests and planted *** to the use of undiscrim.nating term.nology, the loss of natural forest m.y go unnoticed, increasing the risk of plantation forests displacing natural forests in the course of forest transition. Our findings are im.ortant for program. related to forest m.nagem.nt and ecosystem.services im.rovem.nt, including reforestation and Paym.nts for Ecosystem.Services program..

Grain quality is an im.ortant agricultural trait that is m.inly determ.ned by grain size and ***, we characterize the role of the rice transcription factor （TF） SALT-RESPONSIVE ERF1 （SERF1） during grain develop-m.nt. Through genom.-wide expression profiling and chrom.tin im.unoprecipitation, we found that SERF1 directlyregulates RICE PROLAm.N-BOX BINDING FACTOR （RPBF）, a TF that functions as a positive regulator of grain filling. Lossof SERF1 enhances RPBF expression resulting in larger grains with increased starch content, while SERF1 overexpressionrepresses RPBF resulting in sm.ller grains. Consistently, during grain filling, starch biosynthesis genes such as GRANULE-BOUND STARCH SYNTHASEI （GBSSI）, STARCH SYNTHASEI （SSI）, SSIIla, and ADP-GLUCOSE PYROPHOSPHORYLASELARGE SUBUNIT2 （AGPL2） are up-regulated in SERF1 knockout grains. m.reover, SERF1 is a direct upstream.regulator ofGBSSI. In addition, SERF1 negatively regulates germ.nation by controlling RPBF expression, which m.diates the gibberel-lic acid （GA）-induced expression of RICE Am.LASEIA （RAm.lA）. Loss of SERF1 results in m.re rapid seedling establish-m.nt, while SERF1 overexpression has the opposite effect. Our study reveals that SERF1 represents a negative regulatorof grain filling and seedling establishm.nt by tim.ng the expression of RPBF.

AIm. To determ.ne whether IFN-α is the agent that turns a slightly effective treatm.nt (radiochem.therapy) into a potent therapy, we tested IFN-α for its synergistic ***: Eight pancreatic carcinom. cell lines were treated with the single agents and com.inations of *** role of IFN-α regarding a) direct inhibitory effects; b)radio and chem.sensitizing effects; c) anti-angiogenic properties and d) enhancem.nt of im.unogenicity was ***: Our results show that IFN-α has direct inhibitory properties and som. synergistic influence as determ.ned by AnnexinV/PI stain and cell count. IFN-α is also able to prevent the increase in proliferation rate and VEGF secretion of CDDP resistant cells. Having taken the results from.im.unogenicity experim.nts together, we found cells that can be influenced by IFN-α but were less susceptible against T cells. Furtherm.re, high expression of m.C m.lecules, CD118, EGF-R and Fas was predictive for a good ***: In conclusion, IFN-α has direct cytotoxic effects, acts as a radiosensitizer and circum.ents tum.r cell-regrowth after CDDP treatm.nt. These m.chanism. m.y be responsible for the good clinical outcom. of CapRI.
