Recent developm.nts in the study of ultracold Rydberg gases dem.nd an adwanced level of experim.ntal sophistication, in which high atom.c and optical densities m.st be com.ined with excellent control of external fields and sensitive Rydberg atom.detection. We describe a tailored experim.ntal system.used to produce and study Rydberg-interacting atom. excited from.dense ultracold atom.c gases. The experim.nt has been optim.zed for fast duty cycles using a high flux cold atom.source and a three beam.optical dipole trap. The latter enables tuning of the atom.c density and tem.erature over several orders of m.gnitude, all the way to the Bose--Einstein condensation transition. An elec- trode structure surrounding the atom. allows for precise control over electric fields and single-particle sensitive field ionization detection of Rydberg atom.. We review two experim.nts which highlight the influence of strong Rydberg---Rydberg interactions on different m.ny-body system.. First, the Rydberg blockade effect is used to pre-structure an atom.c gas prior to its spontaneous evolution into an ultracold plasm.. Second, hybrid states of photons and atom. called dark-state polaritons are studied. By looking at the statistical distribution of Rydberg excited atom. we reveal correlations between dark-state polaritons. These experim.nts will ultim.tely provide a deeper understanding of m.ny-body phenom.na in strongly-interacting regim.s, including the study of strongly-coupled plasm.s and interfaces between atom. and light at the quantum.level.

There is a need to develop interventions to slow or reverse the degeneration of dopam.ne neurons in Parkinson’s disease after *** that preclinical and clinical studies suggest benefits of dietary n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids,such as docosahexaenoic acid,and exercise in Parkinson’s disease,we investigated whether both could synergistically interact to induce recovery of the dopam.nergic ***,m.ce received a unilateral stereotactic injection of 6-hydroxydopam.ne into the striatum.to establish an anim.l m.del of nigrostriatal *** weeks after lesion,anim.ls were fed a docosahexaenoic acid-enriched or a control diet for the next 8 *** this period,the anim.ls had access to a running wheel,which they could use or *** acid treatm.nt,voluntary exercise,or the com.ination of both had no effect on(i)distance traveled in the open field test,(ii)the percentage of contraversive rotations in the apom.rphine-induction test or(iii)the num.er of tyrosine-hydroxylase-positive cells in the substantia nigra pars ***,the docosahexaenoic acid diet increased the num.er of tyrosine-hydroxylase-positive term.nals and induced a rise in dopam.ne concentrations in the lesioned *** to docosahexaenoic acid treatm.nt or exercise alone,the com.ination of docosahexaenoic acid and exercise(i)im.roved forelim. balance in the stepping test,(ii)decreased the striatal DOPAC/dopam.ne ratio and(iii)led to increased dopam.ne transporter levels in the lesioned *** present results suggest that the com.ination of exercise and docosahexaenoic acid m.y act synergistically in the striatum.of m.ce with a unilateral lesion of the dopam.nergic system.and provide support for clinical trials com.ining nutrition and physical exercise in the treatm.nt of Parkinson’s disease.

Cervical m.elopathy: Diagnostic Aspects, Surgical Treatm.nt and Evolution of Patients Operated upon in Yaounde

Introduction: Although cervical m.elopathy is the m.st com.on degenerative cervical spine pathology in adults, the indications and approaches of surgical treatm.nt have not yet been clearly defined in the literature. Very few studies exist regarding these aspects in our setting, and they are m.stly outdated. This study aim.d to describe the diagnostic aspects, current surgical treatm.nt with technical im.rovem.nts, and progression in patients. Patients and m.thods: We conducted a m.lticentre retrospective descriptive study over a 10-year period between January 2011 and January 2020 in three referral centres in Yaoundé. All patients who underwent surgery for cervical m.elopathy were included. Results: Fifty-two patients were recruited. The rate of operated cervical m.elopathies am.ng all degenerative spinal pathologies was 14.05%. The m.F sex ratio was 3/1, and the average age was 52 ± 10 years. All included patients had gait problem., 90.38% dem.nstrated m.tor deficiency, and 67.30% experienced at least three levels of com.ression. Surgery was decided based on the Nurick grade;a posterior approach was applied to 86.54% of patients. Postoperative progression showed a neurological im.rovem.nt of 82% with an average follow-up of 4 years. Conclusion: In this study, the patients who underwent surgery were relatively young, their clinical presentations were m.stly advanced, and surgical m.nagem.nt showed good results in well-selected cases.

Introduction: m.tastatic spinal tum.rs (m.T) refer to secondary involvem.nt of the vertebral colum. by hem.togenously-dissem.nated m.tastatic cells. They could affect either the bony structures or the spinal cords. m.chanical instability and neurologic deficits resulting from.spinal cord com.ression are the m.st com.on m.nifestations. Surgical intervention rem.ins the m.st effective treatm.nt for about 20% of patients who present with spinal cord com.ression. The prognosis is relatively poor. This work has as objectives to describe: the diagnostic tools, the different m.dalities of m.nagem.nt and the prognostic elem.nts of spine m.tastasis. m.thodology: We conducted an am.ispective cross-sectional descriptive study;with retrospective data collection from.January 2015 to decem.er 2021 and prospective collection from.January to April 2022 in the “Neurosurgery” unit of the Yaounde Central Hospital and the “Oncology and Neurosurgery” units of Yaounde General Hospital. Result: We included 101 patients. The m.F sex ratio was 1.66. The average age of the participants was 56.44 years (±14.19 SD) with a m.dian of 58 years. m.tastatic spinal tum.rs were discovered in 61.39% of patients with a previously known prim.ry tum.r and 21.78% of patients had newly discovered tum.rs. The neurologic exam.nation revealed a vertebral syndrom. in 79.21% of cases, radicular syndrom. in 60.40% and sub-lesional syndrom. in 59.89%. Sensory disorders accounted for 39.60% and sphincter disorders accounted for 34.65%. According to the degree of severity, the lesions were classified as Frankel E (37.62%) followed by Frankel D (21.78%). m.tastatic lesions were m.stly found at the thoracic vertebrae (68.25%) and lum.ar vertebrae (22.22%). The m.st represented prim.ry tum.rs were: prostate tum.rs (41.58%) and breast tum.rs (23.76%);followed by m.lignant hem.pathies (15.84%). Com.uted-tom.graphy scan (CT-scan) was the m.st frequent diagnostic im.ging technique used (71.28%). Analgesic treatm.nt m.stly

BACKGROUND The association between the intestinal m.crobiota and psychiatric disorders is becom.ng increasingly *** gut m.crobiota contributes to colorectal carcinogenesis(CRC),as dem.nstrated with colibactin-producing Escherichia coli(CoPEC).AIm.To evaluate the association between CoPEC prevalence and anxiety-and depressive-like behaviors with both preclinical and clinical *** Patients followed after a CRC surgery and for whom.the prevalence of CoPEC has been investigated underwent a psychiatric *** were com.ared according to the CoPEC *** parallel C57BL6/J wild type m.ce and m.ce with a CRC susceptibility were chronically infected with a CoPEC *** behavior was assessed using the Elevated Plus m.ze test,the Forced Swim.ing Test and the Behavior recognition system.PhenoTyper®.RESULTS In a lim.ted cohort,all patients with CoPEC colonization presented with psychiatric disorders several years before cancer diagnosis,whereas only one patient(17%)without CoPEC *** result was confirm.d in C57BL6/J wildtype m.ce and in a CRC susceptibility m.use m.del(adenom.tous polyposis colim.ltiple intestinal neoplasia/+).m.ce exhibited a significant increase in anxiety-and depressive-like behaviors after chronic infection with a CoPEC *** This finding provides the first evidence that CoPEC infection can induce m.crobiota-gut-brain axis disturbances in addition to its procarcinogenic properties.

The application of extracellular vesicles,particularly exosom.s(EXs),is rapidly expanding in the field of m.dicine,owing to their rem.rkable properties as natural carriers of biological *** study investigates utilization of exosom.s derived from.strom.l cells of tum.r adjacent norm.l tissues(NAF-EXs)for personalized m.dicine,which can be derived at the tim. of diagnosis by endoscopic ***,we show that exosom.s(EXs)derived from.NAFs dem.nstrate differential bio-physical characteristics,efficient cellular internalization,drug loading efficiency,pancreatic tum.r targeting and delivery of ***-derived EXs(NAF-EXs)were used for loading orm.loxifene(ORm.,a potent anti-cancer and desm.plasia inhibitor as a m.del *** found that ORm.m.intains norm.l fibroblast cell phenotype and renders them.incom.atible to be triggered for a CAF-like phenotype,which m.y be due to regulation of Ca^(2+) influx in fibroblast ***-EXs-ORm.effectively blocked oncogenic signaling pathways involved in desm.plasia and epithelial m.senchym.l transition(Em.)and repressed tum.r growth in xenograft m.use *** conclusion,our data suggests preferential tropism.of NAF-EXs for PDAC tum.rs,thus im.ly feasibility of developing a novel personalized m.dicine for PDAC patients using autologous NAF-EXs for im.roved therapeutic outcom. of anti-cancer ***,it provides the opportunity of utilizing this biological scaffold for effective therapeutics in com.ination with standard therapeutic regim.n.

Background:Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is associated with im.aired renal function,and both diseases often occur alongside other m.tabolic ***,the prevalence and risk factors for im.aired renal function in patients with NAFLD rem.in *** objective of this study was to identify the prevalence and risk factors for renal im.airm.nt in NAFLD ***:All adults aged 18-70 years with ultrasound-diagnosed NAFLD and transient elastography exam.nation from.eight Asian centers were enrolled in this prospective *** fibrosis and cirrhosis were assessed by FibroScan-aspartate am.notransferase(FAST),Agile 3+and Agile 4 *** renal function and chronic kidney disease(CKD)were defined by an estim.ted glom.rular filtration rate(eGFR)with value ofm./m.n/1.73 m.(2) andm./m.n/1.73 m.(2),respectively,as estim.ted by the CKD-Epidem.ology Collaboration(CKD-EPI)***:Am.ng 529 included NAFLD patients,the prevalence rates of im.aired renal function and CKD were 37.4%and 4.9%,*** m.ltivariate analysis,a m.derate-high risk of advanced liver fibrosis and cirrhosis according to Agile 3+and Agile 4 scores were independent risk factors for CKD(Pm.re,increased fasting plasm. glucose(FPG)and blood pressure were significantly associated with im.aired renal function after controlling for the other com.onents of m.tabolic syndrom.(Pm.ared with patients with norm.glycem.a,those with prediabetes[FPG≥5.6 m.ol/L or hem.globin A1c(HbA1c)≥5.7%]were m.re likely to have im.aired renal function(Pdentifying NAFLD patients with high risk of *** glycem.c control in the prediabetic stage m.ght have a potential renoprotective role in these patients.
