This study investigated the m.chanical properties of beech(Fagus sylvatica L.)and fir(Abies alba)wood from.Bosnia and Herzegovina under outdoor *** were exposed for 3-m.nth exposure to assess bending strength,color changes,and surface *** showed outdoor exposure negatively affected m.chanical properties,particularly in sam.les with extended finger joints,causing significant surface cracks in uncoated *** wood exhibited notable color changes under exposure,with approxim.tely 50%darkening without coating com.ared to 25%under covered *** sam.les displayed m.nim.l color changes,affirm.ng the efficacy of surface *** wood exhibited a roughness of 8.264μm.while beechwood average roughness increased from.6.767 to 13.916μm.after exposure,with m.cro-pore developm.nt affecting water *** analysis identified prevalent fungal colonies,including Penicillium.Aureobasidium.Sclerophom.,and Chaetom.um.underscoring their role in organic m.tter *** study highlights the im.ortance of wood exposure and treatm.nt selection for various applications.

Background Estim.ted 4%-8% of pregnancies are com.licated by asthm.. Adequate m.nagem.nt in this population is critical to m.nim.ze com.lications. Patients presenting with asthm. exacerbation are typically m.naged with standard bronchodilators and system.c corticosteroids. However, additional agents m.y be used in patients with refractory asthm. exacerbation. Ketam.ne has been used in refractory bronchospasm. although its efficacy in published literature is heterogeneous. Case Presentation We present a case of a pregnant patient with severe asthm. exacerbation refractory to standard and salvage treatm.nt who achieved term.nation of bronchospasm.with ketam.ne infusion. Conclusion After receiving ketam.ne infusion for several days, the patient had im.roved air flow and achieved successful extubation, without experiencing rebound bronchospasm. Although this individual clinical case alone cannot change guidelines or directives to use in refractory asthm. exacerbations, it offers a possible treatm.nt option to patients and providers in unusually severe cases with extenuating risk factors. © Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc. On january 1, 2024 at 16:10:09 jST, an m.(j) 7.6 earthquake struck the Noto Peninsula in the southern part of the Sea of japan. This location has been experiencing an earthquake swarm.for m.re than three years. Here, we provide an overview of this earthquake, focusing on the slip distribution of the m.inshock and its relationship with the preceding swarm. We also reexam.ned the source areas of other large earthquakes that occurred around the Sea of japan in the past and com.ared them.with the m.tsushiro earthquake swarm.in central japan from.964 to 1968. The difference between the m.tsushiro earthquake swarm.and the Noto earthquake swarm.is the surrounding stress field. The m.tsushiro earthquake swarm.was a strike-slip stress field, so the cracks in the crust were oriented vertically. This allowed fluids seeped from.the depths to rise and flow out to the surface. On the other hand, the Noto area was a reverse fault stress field. Therefore, the cracks in the earth's crust were oriented horizontally. Fluids flowing underground in deep areas could not rise and spread over a wide area in the horizontal plane. This m.y have caused a large am.unt of fluid to accum.late underground, triggering a large earthquake. Although our proposed m.chanism.does not take into account other com.lex geological conditions into consideration, it m.y provide a sim.le way to explain why the Noto swarm.is followed by a large earthquake while other swarm. are not.

The increase in the frequency and intensity of drought events expected in the com.ng decades in Western Europe m.y disturb forest biogeochem.cal cycles and create nutrient deficiencies in *** possible origin of nutrient deficiency is the disturbance of the partitioning of the green leaf pool during the leaf senescence period between resorption,foliar leaching and senesced ***,the effects of drought events on this partitioning and the consequences for the m.intenance of tree nutrition are poorly *** experim.nt in a beech forest in m.use(France)was conducted to assess the effect of drought events on nutrient canopy exchanges and on the partitioning of the green leaf pool during the leaf senescence *** aim.was to identify potential nutritional consequences of droughts for *** nutrient dynam.cs,including resorption,chem.stry of green and senesced leaves,foliar absorption and leaching in m.ture beech stands from.2012 to 2019 allowed us to com.are the nutrient exchanges for three nondry and three dry years(i.e.,with an intense drought event during the growing season).During dry years,we observed a decrease by alm.st a third of the potassium.K)partitioning to resorption(*** efficiency),thus reducing the K reserve in trees for the next growing *** result suggests that with the increased drought frequency and intensity expected for the com.ng decades,there will be a risk of potassium.deficiency in trees,as already observed in a rainfall exclusion experim.nt on the sam. study *** foliar leaching and higher parititioning to the senesced leaves for K and phosphorus(P)were also *** addition,a slight increase in nitrogen(N)resorption efficiency occurred during dry years which is m.re likely to im.rove tree *** calcium.Ca)negative resorption decreased,with no apparent consequence in our study *** results show that nutrient exchanges in the canopy and the partitioning of the green leaf

Despite the m.turity of ensem.le num.rical weather prediction(NWP),the resulting forecasts are still,m.re often than not,*** such,forecast calibration tools have becom. *** those tools,quantile regression(QR)is highly com.etitive in term. of both flexibility and predictive ***,a long-standing problem.of QR is quantile crossing,which greatly lim.ts the interpretability of QR-calibrated *** this point,this study proposes a non-crossing quantile regression neural network(NCQRNN),for calibrating ensem.le NWP forecasts into a set of reliable quantile forecasts without *** overarching design principle of NCQRNN is to add on top of the conventional QRNN structure another hidden layer,which im.oses a non-decreasing m.pping between the com.ined output from.nodes of the last hidden layer to the nodes of the output layer,through a triangular weight m.trix with positive *** em.irical part of the work considers a solar irradiance case study,in which four years of ensem.le irradiance forecasts at seven locations,issued by the European Centre for m.dium.Range Weather Forecasts,are calibrated via NCQRNN,as well as via an eclectic m.x of benchm.rking m.dels,ranging from.the naïve clim.tology to the state-of-the-art deep-learning and other non-crossing *** and stringent forecast verification suggests that the forecasts post-processed via NCQRNN attain the m.xim.m.sharpness subject to calibration,am.ngst all ***,the proposed conception to resolve quantile crossing is rem.rkably sim.le yet general,and thus has broad applicability as it can be integrated with m.ny shallow-and deep-learning-based neural networks.

Surface m.dification of graphite anode with electroactive m.tters has been proven of a m.re practical strategy in enhancing the perform.nce of Li-ion batteries than exploring alternative novel anode ***,rutile TiNbO_(4-x) nanoparticles with a tunnel structure are em.loyed as m.ltifunctional decoration substances in com.ination with a carbon coating layer to im.rove the rate and cycle properties of m.socarbon m.crobeads(m.m.s).As com.ared to pristine m.m.,the Li^(+)diffusion coefficients of the com.osite anodes are enhanced due to the synergistic effect of TiNbO_(4-x)@***,the overcharge and voltage polarization of the com.osite anodes at high rate are obviously m.nim.zed due to the current sharing effect of the high-potential TiNbO_(4-x).m.reover,the am.rphous Li_(y)TiNbO_(4-x) converted from.TiNbO_(4-x) in the initial lithiation process can deliver pseudocapacitive capacity to the com.osite anodes from.the second *** of these functions of TiNbO_(4-x)@Ccoating layer have directly contributed to the im.roved rate and cycle perform.nce of the m.m./TiNbO_(4-x)@C com.osite *** one containing 12.0 wt%TiNbO_(4-x) exhibits a high reversible specific capacity of 118 m.Ah·g^(-1)at 10C(1C=372 m.A·g^(-1)),together with a high capacity retention of 90.9%after 300 cycles at 3C,which are all m.ch superior to those of pristine m.m..

Digital fabrication techniques,in recent decades,have provided the basis of a sustainable revolution in the construction ***,selecting the digital fabrication m.thod in term. of m.nufacturability and functionality requirem.nts is a com.lex *** paper presents alternatives and criteria for selection of digital fabrication techniques by adopting the m.lti-criteria decision-m.king *** alternatives considered in the study are concrete three-dim.nsional(3D)printing,shotcrete,sm.rt dynam.c casting,m.terial intrusion,m.sh m.lding,injection concrete 3D printing,and thin form.ng *** criteria include form.ork utilization,reinforcem.nt incorporation,geom.trical com.lexity,m.terial enhancem.nt,assem.ly com.lexity,surface finish,and build *** dem.nstrates different m.lti-criteria decision-m.king techniques,with both subjective and objective weighting *** given ranking is based on the current condition of digital fabrication in the construction *** study reveals that in the selection of digital fabrication techniques,the criteria including reinforcem.nt incorporation,build area,and geom.trical com.lexity play a pivotal role,collectively accounting for nearly 70% of the overall *** the evaluated techniques,concrete 3D printing em.rged as the best perform.r,however the shotcrete and m.sh m.lding techniques in the second and third positions.

The sim.ltaneous investigation on the param.ters affecting the flow of electrically conductive fluids such as volum.tric radiation,heat absorption,heat generation,and m.gnetic field(m.)is very vital due to its existence in various sectors of industry and *** present research focuses on m.them.tical m.deling to sim.late the cooling of a hot com.onent through power-law(PL)nanofluid convection *** tem.erature reduction of the hot com.onent inside a two-dim.nsional(2D)inclined cham.er with two different cold wall shapes is *** form.lation of the problem.is derived with the lattice Boltzm.nn m.thod(LBm.by code writing via the FORTRAN *** variables such as the radiation param.ter(0–1),the Hartm.nn num.er(0–75),the heat absorption/generation coefficient(−5–5),the fluid behavioral index(0.8–1.2),the Rayleigh num.er(103–105),the im.osed m. angle(0°–90°),the cham.er inclination angle(−90°–90°),and the cavity cold wall shape(sm.oth and curved)are *** findings indicate that the presence of radiation increases the m.an Nusselt num.er value for the shear-thickening,Newtonian,and shear thinning fluids by about 6.2%,4%,and 2%,*** m.st cases,the presence of nanoparticles im.roves the heat transfer(HT)rate,especially in the cases where therm.l conduction dom.nates *** is the lowest cooling perform.nce index and m. effect for the cavity placed at an angle of 90°.The application in the design of electronic coolers and solar collectors is one of the practical cases of this num.rical research.
