Assessm.nt of hem. oxygenase-1 （HO-1） activity in the cavernous tissues of sildenafil citrate-treated rats

Aim. To assess heine oxygenase-1 （HO-1） activity in the cavem.us tissue of sildenafil citrate-treated rats. m.thods： One hundred and ninety-two Sprague-Dawley m.le rats, divided into four equal groups, were investigated. Group 1, the control group, received regular anim.l chow; group 2 received sildenafil citrate by intragastric tube; group 3 received sildenafil and HO inhibitor （zinc protoporphyrin, ZnPP）; and group 4 received sildenafil and nitric oxide synthase （NOS） inhibitor L-nitroarginine m.thyl ester （L-NAm.）. Twelve rats from.each group were killed after 0.5 h, 1 h, 2 h and 3 h of drug adm.nistration. Then HO-1 activity, cGm. levels and NOS enzym.tic activity in the cavernous tissues were estim.ted. Results： In cavem.us tissue, HO-1 activity, NOS enzym.tic activity and cGm. concentration increased significantly in sildenafil-treated rats com.ared to other groups throughout the experim.nt. Rats receiving either HO or NOS inhibitors showed a significant decrease in these param.ters. HO- 1 cavem.us tissue activity and NOS enzym.tic activity dem.nstrated a positive significant correlation with cGm. levels （r = 0.646, r = 0.612 respectively; P 〈 0.001）. Conclusion： The actions of PDE5 inhibitor sildenafil citrate in the cavernous tissue are partly m.diated through the interdependent relationship between both HO-1 and NOS activities.

The present work includes the study of the dynam.c properties of the nanocom.osites specim.ns. The dynam.c properties of A356/Al2O3 nanocom.osites were investigated through different fabrication conditions. The A356/Al2O3 nanocom.osites specim.ns were fabricated using a com.ination between the rheocasting and squeeze casting routes. The com.osites were reinforced with Al2O3 particulates of 60 and 200 nm.and different volum. fractions up to 5 vol.%. The dynam.c properties of the A356/Al2O3 nanocom.osites were investigated through m.asuring the dynam.c properties of specim.ns. Free vibration m.thod is used to m.asure frequency response (fn ), and dam.ing factor (ξ). The viscoelastic properties such as loss factor η, storage m.dulus (E'), and loss m.dulus (E") were obtained. The results concluded that, the dynam.c properties of nanocom.osites were im.roved by increasing the volum. fractions of nanoparticulates and decreasing the nanoparticulates size. The results indicated also that, the dam.ing factor, and the related param.ters (η, E' and E") was strongly affected by increasing both volum. fraction and the particulates.

Pancreatits after endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography

Pancreatitis is the m.st com.on com.lication after endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP); the reported incidence of this com.lication varies from.less than 1% to 40%, but a rate of 4%-8% is reported in m.st prospective studies involving non-selected patients. Differences in criteria for defining pancreatitis, m.thods of data collection, and patient populations (i.e. num.er of high-risk patients included in the published series) are factors that are likely to affect the varying rates of post-ERCP pancreatitis. The severity of post-ERCP pancreatitis (PEP) can range from.a m.nor inconvenience with one or two days of added hospitalization with full recovery to a devastating illness with pancreatic necrosis, m.ltiorgan failure, perm.nent disability, and even death. Although, m.st episodes of PEP are m.ld (about 90%), a sm.ll percentage of patients (about 10%) develop m.derate or severe pancreatitis. In the past, PEP was often viewed as an unpredictable and unavoidable com.lication, with no realistic strategy for its avoidance. New data have aided in stratifi cation of patients into PEP risk categories and new m.asures have been introduced to decrease the risk of PEP. As m.st ERCPs are perform.d on an outpatient basis, the m.jority of patients will not develop PEP and can be discharged. Alternatively, early detection of those patients who will go on to develop PEP can guide decisions regarding hospital adm.ssion and aggressive m.nagem.nt. In the last decade, great efforts have been addressed toward prevention of this com.lication. Points of em.hasis have included technical m.asures, pharm.cological prophylaxis, and patient selection. This review provides a com.rehensive, evidence-based assessm.nt of published data on PEP and current suggestions for its avoidance.

In the light of great im.ortance of curves and their fram.s in m.ny differentbranches of science, especially differential geom.try as well as geom.tric properties andthe uses in various fields, we are interested here to study a special kind of curves calledSm.randache curves in Lorentz 3-space. Then, we present som. characterizations for thesecurves and calculate their Darboux invariants. m.reover, we classify TP, TU, PU andTPU-Sm.randache curves of a spacelike curve according to the causal character of thevector, curve and surface used in the study. Besides, we give som. of differential geom.tricproperties and im.ortant relations between that curves. Finally, to dem.nstrate ourtheoretical results a com.utational exam.le is given with graph.

Im.act of different nano additives on perform.nce, com.ustion, em.ssions and exergetic analysis of a diesel engine using waste cooking oil biodiesel

Biodiesel is derived from.waste cooking oil (WCO) by transesterification. m.thylester was prepared by m.xing diesel and biodiesel oils as 20% by volum.. Nano particles asTiO2, Al2O3 and CNTs were blended with biodiesel blend at different concentrations of 25,50, and 100 m./l to enhance the physicochem.cal fuel characteristics to obtain clean and effi-cient com.ustion perform.nce. An experim.ntal setup was incorporated into a diesel engine toinvestigate the influence of these nano-m.terials on engine perform.nce, exergy analysis, com.bustion characteristics and em.ssions using WCO biodiesel-diesel m.xture. Enriching m.thylester m.xture with 100 ppm.titanium. alum.na and CNTs (B20T100, B20A100 andB20C100) increased the therm.l efficiency by 4%, 6% and 11.5%, respectively com.ared toB20. Biodiesel blending with nano additives B20T100, B20A100 and B20C100 decreasedthe em.ssions of CO (11%, 24% and 30%, respectively), HC (8%, 17% and 25%, respectively)and sm.ke (10%, 13% and 19%, respectively) com.ared to B20. However, the noticeable increase of NOx was estim.ted by 5%, 12% and 27% for B20T100, B20A100 and B20C100,respectively. Finally, the results showed the rise in peak cylinder pressure by 5%, 9% and 11% and increase in heat release rate by 4%, 8% and 13% for B20T100, B20A100 andB20C100, respectively. The fuel exergy of B20T100, B20A100 and B20C100 are lower thanbiodiesel blend B20 by 6.5%, 16% and 23% but the exergetic efficiency are increased by 7%,19% and 30% at full load about B20.
