The variation of the optical absorption (OA) and photoluminescence (PL) spectra with temperature was studied on γ-irradiated CaF2:Dy:Pb:Na single crystals. The OA spectrum showed bands around 2.05, 3.20, 3.82 and 6.20 eV which could be attributed to different sodium associated (SA) colour centres (CCs) such as mNa and RA+ . Following the unanimous recommendation of the International Commission on Stratigraphy, the Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) for the base of the Cenomanian Stage is defined at a level 36 metres below the top of the marnes Bleues Formation, a level that corresponds to the the first appearance of the planktonic foraminiferan Rotalipora globotruncanoides Sigal, 1948, on the south side of mont Risou, east of Rosans, Haute-Alpes, France, where it can be placed in the context of a series of secondary marker levels based on nannofossils, planktonic foraminifera, ammonites,and an ornate δ^13C curve.

Reaction of nitrous oxide with methane to synthesis gas:A thermodynamic and catalytic study

The aim of the present study is to explore the coherence of thermodynamic equilibrium predictions with the actual catalytic reaction of CH4 with N2O,particularly at higher CH4 *** this purpose,key process variables,such as temperature(300℃-550℃) and a molar feed ratio(N2O/CH4 = 1,3,and 5),were altered to establish the conditions for maximized *** experimental study was conducted over the Co-ZSm-5 catalyst in a fixed bed tubular reactor and then compared with the thermodynamic equilibrium compositions,where the equilibrium composition was calculated via total Gibbs free energy minimization *** results suggest that molar feed ratio plays an important role in the overall reaction products *** for N2O conversions,and irrespective of N2O/CH4feed ratio,the thermodynamic predictions coincide with experimental data obtained at approximately 475℃-550℃,indicating that the reactions are kinetically limited at lower range of *** example,theoretical calculations show that the H2 yield is zero in presence of excess N2O(N2O/CH4= 5).However over a Co-ZSm-5 catalyst,and with a same molar feed ratio(N2O/CH4) of 5,the H2yield is initially 10%at 425℃,while above450℃ it drops to ***,H2yield steadily increases with temperature and with the level of CH4 conversion for reactions limited by N2O concentration in a reactant *** maximum attainable(from thermodynamic calculations and at a feed ratio of N2O/CH4=3) H2yield at 550℃ is 38%,whereas at same temperature and over Co-ZSm-5,the experimentally observed yield is about 19%.Carbon deposition on Co-ZSm-5 at lower temperatures and CH4 conversion(less than 50%) was also *** higher temperatures and levels of CH4conversion(above 90%),the deposited carbon is suggested to react with N2O to form CO2.

On-chip detection of a single nucleotide polymorphism without polymerase amplification

A nanoparticle-assembled photonic crystal （PC） array was used to detect single nucleotide polymorphism （SNP）. The assay platform with PC nanostructure enhanced the fluorescent signal from nanoparticle-hybridized DNA complexes due to phase matching of excitation and emission. Nanoparticles coupled with probe DNA were trapped into nanowells in an array by using an electrophoretic particle entrapment system. The PC/DNA assay platform was able to identify a 1 base pair （bp） difference in synthesized nucleotide sequences that mimicked the mutation seen in a feline model of human autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease （PKD） with a sensitivity of 0.9 fg/mL （50 am）-sensitivity, which corresponds to 30 oligos/array. The reliability of the PC/DNA assay platform to detect SNP in a real sample was demonstrated by using genomic DNA （gDNA） extracted from the urine and blood of two PKD-wild type and three PKD positive cats. The standard curves for PKD positive （PKD＋） and negative （PKD-） DNA were created using two feline-urine samples. An additional three urine samples were analyzed in a similar fashion and showed satisfactory agreement with the standard curve, confirming the presence of the mutation in affected urine. The limit of detection （LOD） was 0.005 ng/mL which corresponds to 6 fg per array for gDNA in urine and blood. The PC system demonstrated the ability to detect a number of genome equivalents for the PKD SNP that was very similar to the results reported with real time polymerase chain reaction （PCR）. The favorable comparison with quantitative PCR suggests that the PC technology may find application well beyond the detection of the PKD SNP, into areas where a simple, cheap and portable nucleic acid analvsis is desirable.

modelling the biological performance of a side-stream membrane bioreactor using ASm1

membrane bioreactors(mBRs) are attracting global interest but the mathematical modeling of the biological performance of mBRs remains very limited. This study focuses on the modelling of a side-stream mBR system using Activated Sludge model No.1(ASm1), and comparing the results with the modelling of traditional activated sludge processes. ASm1 parameters relevant for the long-term biological behaviour in mBR systems were calibrated(i.e. Y H=0.72gCOD/gCOD, Y A=0.25gCOD/gN, b H=0.25 d -1, b A=0.080 d -1 and f P=0.06), and generally agreed with the parameters in traditional activated sludge processes, with the exception that a higher autotrophic biomass decay rate was observed in the mBR. A sensitivity analysis for steady state operation and DO dynamics suggested that the biological performance of the mBR system(the sludge concentration, effluent quality and the DO dynamics) are very sensitive to the parameters(i.e. Y H, Y A, b H, b A, μ maxH and μ maxA), and influent wastewater components(X I, S S, X S, S NH).

A thin Si nanowire network anode for high volumetric capacity and long-life lithium-ion batteries
