A novel floating breakwater-windbreak structure(floating forest)has been designed for the protection of vulnerable coastal areas from extreme wind and wave loadings during storm *** modular arch-shaped concrete structure is positioned perpendicularly to the direction of the prevailing wave and *** structure below the water surface acts as a porous breakwater with wave scattering *** array of tubular columns on the sloping deck of the breakwater act as an artificial forest-type windbreak.A feasibility study involving hydrodynamic and aerodynamic analyses has been performed,focusing on its capability in reducing wave heights and wind speeds in the lee *** study shows that the proposed 1 km long floating forest is able to shelter a lee area that stretches up to 600 m,with 40%–60%wave energy reduction and 10%–80%peak wind speed reduction.

Herein,the relationship between the structure and base properties of mg–Al hydrotalcite catalysts was comprehensively investigated in relation to heat treatment and rehydration processes,which are well known as memory effects of *** structure of mg–Al hydrotalcites changed from layered double hydroxide(LDH)to mixed metal oxide and subsequently to a spinel structure during heat treatment,and it was returned from mixed metal oxide to a LDH structure by *** on various characterizations,we successfully proposed a detailed mechanism of memory *** also confirmed that the mg–Al hydrotalcites had weak or strong base sites and that their base properties could be systematically tuned by heat treatment and *** prepared mg–Al hydrotalcites were applied to a model reaction,isomerization of glucose to fructose,as base *** the catalysts tested,the rehydrated mg–Al hydrotalcite efficiently produced fructose due to its appropriate base and structure *** finally concluded that the base sites of mg–Al hydrotalcites can be designed as desired by heat treatment and ***,through systematic design of the base sites of mg–Al hydrotalcites,these can be promising catalysts for various heterogeneous reactions over base catalysts,giving excellent catalytic performances.

In this study,we developed a simple screening procedure for the determination of 18 anthelmintics(including benzimidazoles,macrocyclic lactones,salicylanilides,substituted phenols,tetrahydropyrimidines,and imidazothiazoles)in five animal-derived food matrices(chicken muscle,pork,beef,milk,and egg)using liquid chromatography-tandem mass *** were extracted using acetonitrile/1% acetic acid(milk and egg)and acetonitrile/1% acetic acid with 0.5 mL of distilled water(chicken muscle,pork,and beef),and purified using saturated n-hexane/acetonitrile.A reversed-phase analytical column and a mobile phase consisting of(A)10 mm ammonium formate in distilled water and(B)methanol were used to achieve optimal chromatographic ***-matched standard calibration curves(R^(2)≥0.9752)were obtained for concentration equivalent to ×1/2,×1,×2,×3,×4,and×5 fold the maximum residue limit(mRL)stipulated by the Korean ministry of Food and Drug *** of 61.2e118.4%,with relative standard deviations(RSDs)of ≤19.9%(intraday and interday),were obtained for each sample at three spiking concentrations(×1/2,×1,and ×2 the mRL values).Limits of detection,limits of quantification,and matrix effects were 0.02e5.5 mg/kg,0.06e10 mg/kg,and -98.8 to 13.9%(at 20 μg/kg),*** five samples of each food matrix(chicken muscle,pork,beef,milk,and egg)purchased from large retailers in Seoul that were tested,none of the target analytes were *** has therefore been shown that this protocol is adaptable,accurate,and precise for the quantification of anthelmintic residues in foods of animal origin.

AIm To analyze cytokine levels and to identify their association with outcome in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) treated with radiotherapy(RT). mETHODS Patients with HCC who were treated with RT were eligible for this prospective study. Blood samples were collected before and after RT, and serum cytokine levels including interleukin(IL)-1, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12, and tumor necrosis factor-α were analyzed. RESULTS Between 2008 and 2009, 51 patients were enrolled in this study. Baseline IL-6 level was high in patients with a history of pre-RT treatment. median survival was 13.9 mo with alpha-fetoprotein(AFP) as a significant factor(P = 0.020). median failure-free survival(FFS) for infield, outfield-intrahepatic and extrahepatic failures were 23.3, 11.5 and 12.0 mo, respectively. Sex and baseline IL-6 level were associated with infield FFS, and baseline IL-10 level was correlated with outfield-intrahepatic FFS. For extrahepatic FFS, AFP was significant(P =0.034). Patients with a baseline IL-6 level of ≥ 9.7 pg/m L showed worse infield FFS(P = 0.005), and this significance was observed only in treatment-non-na?ve patients(P = 0.022). CONCLUSION In addition to AFP, cytokines seem useful in predicting infield and outfield-intrahepatic failure. Serum cytokines could be useful biomarkers for predicting RT outcome in HCC.

Background:To examine the cosmetic outcome of femtosecond laser-assisted pterygium surgery(FLAPS)with conjunctival autograft(CAG)and its potential predictive ***:This was a prospective interventional case series(NCT02866968).We included 29 patients(29 eyes)with primary pterygium who underwent *** outcome was graded by two graders(an ophthalmology resident and an experienced ophthalmologist)using Hirst classification system(1-4=excellent-poor).Weighted Cohen’s kappa analysis was performed to examine the intra-and inter-rater *** relationship between cosmetic outcome and various factors were determined by Spearman’s correlation coefficients(r).Results:The preoperative severity of pterygium(Tan grading system)was mild/atrophic(7%),moderate/intermediate(62%),and severe/fleshy(31%).An ultrathin CAG(mean thickness of 74.5±9.8μm)was fashioned *** excellent cosmetic outcome of FLAPS(median±IQR)was observed at 3 months(1.0±1.0)and remained similar at 6months(1.0±0.0)and 12months(1.0±0.0)*** final follow-up,27(93%)patients achieved good-to-excellent cosmetic outcome,with 1(3%)patient having a poor outcome due to incomplete pterygium *** kappa analysis of Hirst grading system showed excellent intra-rater(κ=0.86-0.95)and inter-rater reliability(κ=0.84-0.88).There was a weak and borderline significant correlation between good cosmetic outcome and reduced postoperative CAG thickness(r=0.38,P=0.06)but not with age,gender,preoperative pterygium severity,or intraoperative CAG ***:FLAPS can result in an excellent cosmetic outcome,which may be attributed to the beneficial effect of an ultrathin CAG.
