PtRu nanoparticles supported on noble carbons for ethanol electrooxidation

In this work,three cytosine derived nitrogen doped carbonaceous materials(noble carbons,NCs)with different atomic C/N ratios and porous networks have been synthesized and used as supports for Pt Ru electrocatalysts in the ethanol oxidation reaction(EOR)for clean hydrogen ***,the metal phase and the carbon support play critical roles in the electrocatalysts final *** NPs size distribution was obtained over supports with low atomic C/N ratios(i.e.,4 and 6)and defined porosity(i.e.,1701 m^(2)g^(-1)for Pt Ru/CNZ and 1834 m^(2)g^(-1)for Pt Ru/CLZ,respectively).In contrast,a lower C/N ratio and poor porous network(i.e.,65 m^(2)g^(-1),Pt Ru/CLK)led to the largest particle size and fostered an increase of the alloying degree between Pt and Ru NPs(i.e.,3%for C/N~6 and 28%for C/N~3).Electrochemical active surface area was found to increase with decreasing NPs size and the alloy extent,due to a higher availability of Pt active *** degradation tests showed that Pt Ru/NCs outperform similar to Pt Ru NPs on commercial carbon pointing at the stabilizing effect of *** Ru/CNZ exhibited the best electrochemical performance(i.e.,69.1 m A mgPt-1),outperforming Pt Ru/CLZ and Pt Ru/CLK by3-and 9-fold,respectively,due to a suitable compromise between particle sizes,degree of alloy,textural properties and elemental *** anodes were scaled-up to a proton exchange membrane cell and Pt Ru/CNZ was proved to provide the best electrocatalytic activity(262 m A cm^(-2)and low energy requirements),matching the values obtained by the state of the art of EOR electrocatalysts.

Arboviral diseases are viral infections transmitted to humans through the bites of arthropods,such as mosquitoes,often causing a variety of pathologies associated with high levels of morbidity and *** the past decades,these infections have proven to be a significant challenge to health systems worldwide,particularly following the considerable geographic expansion of the dengue virus(DENV)and its most recent outbreak in Latin America as well as the difficult-tocontrol outbreaks of yellow fever virus(YFV),chikungunya virus(CHIKV),and Zika virus(ZIKV),leaving behind a substantial portion of the population with complications related to these ***,the world is experiencing a period of intense globalization,which,combined with global warming,directly contributes to wider dissemination of arbovirus vectors across the ***,all continents remain on high alert for potential new ***,this review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the pathogenesis of the four main arboviruses today(DENV,ZIKV,YFV,and CHIKV)discussing their viral characteristics,immune responses,and mechanisms of viral evasion,as well as important clinical aspects for patient *** includes associated symptoms,laboratory tests,treatments,existing or developing vaccines and the main associated complications,thus integrating a broad historical,scientific and clinical approach.

Historic accounts of Mansonella parasitaemias in the south Pacific and their relevance to lymphatic filariasis elimination efforts today

There are two species of filarial parasites with sheathless microfilariae known to commonly cause parasitaemias in humans:Mansonella perstans and Mtinsonella *** most contemporary accounts of the distribution of these parasites,neither is usually considered to occur anywhere in the Eastern ***,sir Patrick Manson,who first described both parasite species,recorded the existence of sheathless sharp-tailed Mansonella ozzardilike parasites occurring in the blood of natives from New Guinea in each and every version of his manual for tropical disease that he wrote before his death in ***'s reports were based on his own identifications and were made from at least two independent blood sample collections that were taken from the *** region Mansonella perstans parasitaemias were also later(in 1923) reported to occur in New Guinea and once before this(in 1905) in *** Mansonella-parasilaernias are generally regarded as benign,they are thought to be of public health importance because they can affect the epidemiological monitoring of other filarial *** this article,we reviewed the historic literature concerning Pacific-origin Mansonella-parasitaemias in an attempt to explain how,despite repeated reports of Pacificregion Mansonella-parasilaemias,by as early as the 1970 s,the WHO had arrived at the presentday view that Wuchereria bancrofti is the only cause of filarial parasitaemias in Papua New *** have also evaluated the evidence supporting the contemporary existence of Pacificarea parasitaemia-causing Mansonella parasites and assessed the relevance such parasites could have for present-day lymphatic filariasis elimination efforts in the region.

Characteristics of snO_(2):F Thin Films Deposited by Ultrasonic spray Pyrolysis:Effect of Water Content in solution and substrate Temperature

Fluorine doped tin oxide, snO2:F, thin films were deposited by ultrasonic chemical spray starting from tin chloride and hydrofluoric acid. The physical characteristics of the films as a function of both water content in the starting solution and substrate temperature were studied. The film structure was polycrystalline in all cases, showing that the intensity of (200) peak increased with the water content in the starting solution. The electrical resistivity decreased with the water content, reaching a minimum value, in the order of 8 × 10-4 Ωcm, for films deposited at 450℃ from a starting solution with a water content of 10 ml per 100 ml of solution;further increase in water content increased the corresponding resistivity. Optical transmittances of snO2:F films were high, in the order of 75%, and the band gap values oscillated around 3.9 eV. sEM analysis showed uniform surface morphologies with different geometries depending on the deposition conditions. Composition analysis showed a stoichiometric compound with a [sn/O] ratio around 1:2 in all samples. The presence of F into the snO2 lattice was detected, within 2 at % respect to sn.

Mechanical properties of a clay soil reinforced with rice husk under drained and undrained conditions

Fiber-reinforced soils have been increasingly used in geotechnical *** the years,research has sought to understand and investigate the influences of fibers as reinforcement in soilefiber *** study assessed the behavior of clayey soil in the city of Curitiba(Paraná,Brazil),adding rice husk fiber(RHF),an industrial waste from Cooperativa Agroindustrial in Alegrete(Rio Grande do sul,Brazil).To evaluate the effect of the presence of natural RHF on the mechanical behavior of compacted soil,aspects such as the influence of fiber content and the drained and undrained behaviors of the soil were evaluated through unconfined triaxial compression *** following tests were realized:soil granulometry,specific mass of solids and Atterberg *** were produced in quadruplicate for the soil and mixtures using the RHF contents of 0.5%,0.75%,1%and 1.5%to determine the unconfined compressive strength(UCs).Triaxial tests were realized on a pure soil specimen and the specimens with 1%RHF under confining pressures of 50 kPa,100 kPa,200 kPa and 400 *** interactions at the interface between husk surface and soil were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy(sEM).In UCs tests,specimens with RHF percentages of 1%and 1.5%presented the highest results,with an increment of 36%compared to the soil without *** results of the consolidated drained triaxial compression tests show that in terms of effective stress,there was a small difference in the strength of the compacted pure soil and soil with the addition of *** the undrained tests,the strength increased with the inclusion of husk,with a reduction of 50%in cohesion and an increment of 22%in friction angle for specimens containing RHF compared to the soil without RHF additions.

Rainfall simulators(Rs)have been used,above all,to evaluate hydrological processes related to soil water infiltration,surface runoff and soil *** allow repeatability of rain application with different precipitation intensities in field and/or laboratory conditions and should produce events with physical characteristics similar to natural *** this manuscript,we carried out a bibliometric and scientometric analysis of studies with simulated rainfall in Brazil to assess the temporal evolution of publications,the main topics addressed and the degree of technological development of the *** searched for the terms“rainfall simulator”OR“simulated rainfall”AND“Brazil”in the scopus,Web of science,sciELO and Google scholar *** found 143 articles published in the last 37 years(1985-2022).Our findings indicate that the main research areas covered in papers are soil erosion(57.34%),soil water infiltration(24.47%),nutrient losses(9.8%)and Rs development and calibration/assessment(8.39%).In recent years,the number of published papers in international high-impact factor journals has *** of the papers(49.65%)refer to studies carried out by institutions located in the south and southeast regions of ***,there is a large gap of studies on simulated rainfall in other regions of Brazil,where important biomes such as the Cerrado,Amazon,Caatinga,and their transitions are *** study informs research priorities on soil erosion under simulated rainfall and provides a bibliographic database that can assist in more detailed future analyses.

New avenues for the treatment of immunotherapy-resistant pancreatic cancer

Pancreatic cancer(PC)is characterized by its extremely aggressive nature and ranks 14th in the number of new cancer cases ***,due to its complexity,it ranks 7th in the list of the most lethal cancers *** pathogenesis of PC involves several complex processes,including familial genetic factors associated with risk factors such as obesity,diabetes mellitus,chronic pancreatitis,and *** in genes such as KRAs,TP53,and sMAD4 are linked to the appearance of malignant cells that generate pancreatic lesions and,consequently,*** this context,some therapies are used for PC,one of which is immunotherapy,which is extremely promising in various other types of cancer but has shown little response in the treatment of PC due to various resistance mechanisms that contribute to a drop in immunotherapy *** is therefore clear that the tumor microenvironment(TME)has a huge impact on the resistance process,since cellular and non-cellular elements create an immunosuppressive environment,characterized by a dense desmoplastic stroma with cancerassociated fibroblasts,pancreatic stellate cells,extracellular matrix,and immunosuppressive *** to this are genetic mutations in TP53 and immunosuppressive factors that act on T cells,resulting in a shortage of CD8+T cells and limited expression of activation markers such as *** this way,finding new strategies that make it possible to manipulate resistance mechanisms is ***,techniques such as the use of TME modulators that block receptors and stromal molecules that generate resistance,the use of genetic manipulation in specific regions,such as microRNAs,the modulation of extrinsic and intrinsic factors associated with T cells,and,above all,therapeutic models that combine these modulation techniques constitute the promising future of PC ***,this study aims to elucidate the main mechanisms of resistance to immunotherapy in PC and new ways of manipulating thi
