Overstory functional groups indicate the legacy of land use in a secondary tropical forest in southwestern China

Circulating tumor cells with epithelial-mesenchymal transition markers as potential biomarkers for the diagnosis of lung cancer

BACKGROUND Circulating tumor cells(CTCs) can be clustered into three subtypes according to epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT) markers: CTCs with epithelial markers(E-CTCs), CTCs with mesenchymal markers(M-CTCs), and CTCs with both markers(E&M-CTCs). CTC detection has clinical implications in the diagnosis of lung cancer(LC).AIM To clarify the diagnostic value of CTCs categorized by EMT markers in *** The study included 106 patients with lung adenocarcinoma, including 42 groundglass opacities(GGO) and 64 solid lesions, who underwent surgery between July 2015 and December 2019. Eleven patients with benign tumors and seventeen healthy controls were included. CTCs in peripheral blood and associated EMT markers were detected preoperatively using the CanPatrol TM technique. The diagnostic power of CTCs for discriminating LC cases from controls was analyzed by the receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve. The CytoploRare technique was used in 20 cases and 18 controls for validation, and Kappa values were calculated to evaluate consistency between *** Of the 106 LC cases, 94(89.6%) had at least one CTC. CTCs were detectable in 35(83.3%) of 42 GGO cases. Total CTCs and E&M-CTCs were significantly more frequent in LC cases than in benign or healthy controls. The proportion of MCTCs plus E&M-CTCs increased gradually from healthy controls, to benign controls, to LC cases. The area under the ROC curve of total CTCs and E&M-CTCs was > 0.8 and > 10.75, respectively. The combined sensitivity of total-CTCs and E&M-CTCs was 85.85% for LC patients(80.95% for GGO patients) and the specificity was 78.57%.The Kappa value was 0.415,indicating relative consistency between CanPatrol TM and *** CTC detection is valuable for distinguishing LC from controls,and particularly E&M-CTC detection warrants further study.

Activity Enhancement of Pt/Ba/Al_(2)O_(3) Mixed with Mn/Ba/Al_(2)O_(3) for NO_(x) Storage-reduction by Hydrogen

Abstract： Mn/Ba/Al2O3 catalyst for NO oxidation-storage and Pt/Ba/Al2O3 catalyst mixed with Mn/Ba/Al2O3 for NOx storage-reduction by hydrogen were investigated. The results showed that Mn/Ba/Al2O3 had large nitrogen oxides storage capacity （397.9 μmolg^-1） under lean burn condition. When Pt/Ba/Al2O3 catalyst was mixed with Mn/Ba/Al2O3 in equal weight proportion, the NOx conversion increased between 250 ℃ and 500 ℃ under the dynamic lean-rich burn conditions, and the maximum NOx conversion increased from 95.4% to 98.2%. Mn/Ba/Al2O3 has promoted NOx storing in the lean stage and improved NOx reduction efficiency in the rich stage, these might result in higher NOx conversion over the low Pt loading content catalyst.

High-purity germanium(HPGe)detectors,which are used for direct dark matter detection,have the advantages of a low threshold and excellent energy *** surface passivation of HPGe has become crucial for achieving an extremely low energy *** this study,first-principles simulations,passivation film preparation,and metal oxide semiconductor(MOS)capacitor characterization were combined to study surface *** calculations of the energy band structure of the -H,-OH,and -NH_(2) passivation groups on the surface of Ge were performed,and the interface state density and potential with five different passivation groups with N/O atomic ratios were accurately analyzed to obtain a stable surface *** on the theoretical calculation results,the surface passivation layers of the Ge_(2)ON_(2) film were prepared via magnetron sputtering in accordance with the optimum atomic ratio *** microstructure,C-V,and I-V electrical properties of the layers,and the passivation effect of the Al/Ge_(2)ON_(2)/Ge MOS were characterized to test the interface state *** mean interface state density obtained by the Terman method was 8.4×10^(11) cm^(-2) eV^(-1).The processing of germanium oxynitrogen passivation films is expected to be used in direct dark matter detection of the HPGe detector surface passivation technology to reduce the detector leakage currents.

Over-expression of GhDWF4 gene improved tomato fruit quality and accelerated fruit ripening

Brassinosteroids（BRs）, a class of steroidal phytohormones are essential for many biological processes in plant. However, little is known about their roles in fruit development. Tomato is a highly valuable vegetable and has been adopted as the model species for studying fruit growth, development, and ripening. To understand the role of endogenous BRs in the development of tomato fruit, the expression patterns of three homologues of DWF4 gene were investigated and the transgenic tomato plants were generated in which the Gh DWF4 gene from upland cotton（Gossypium hirsutum L.） was ectopically expressed. The contents of main quality components were analyzed in fruits of transgenic tomato line and non-transgenic line（control plant, CP） when the fruit was mature. Sl CYP90B3 that possesses high homology with Gh DWF4 preferentially expressed in mature fruit. Significantly higher contents of soluble sugar, soluble proteins, and vitamin C were obtained in fruit of transgenic tomato lines compared with those in the CP. Furthermore, overexpressing Gh DWF4 promoted fruit growth and ripening. The weight per fruit was increased by about 23% in transgenic lines. In addition, overexpressing Gh DWF4 promoted the germination of transgenic tomato seeds and hypocotyl elongation of seedlings. These results indicated that overexpressing Gh DWF4 gene in tomato could increase the contents of many nutrients in fruit and accelerate fruit ripening. It is suggested that increased endogenous BRs in fruit affect the growth and development of tomato fruit and therefore improved the nutrient quality of tomato.

Biological Cycles of Mineral Elements in a Young Mixed Stand in Abandoned Mining Soils

Phytoremediation as a sustainable and inexpensive technology based on the removal of pollutants from the environment by plants is becoming an increasingly important objective in plant research. In this study, biological cycles of five nutrient elements （N, P, K, Ca, and Mg） and eight heavy metal elements （Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn, Cd, Ni, Pb and Co） were examined in young paniculed goldraintree （Koelreuteria paniculata Laxm） and common elaeocarpus （Elaeocarpus decipens） mixed stands in an abandoned mining area. We found that after vegetation restoration in abandoned mining areas, the organic matter and concentrations of nutrient elements were significantly increased and the heavy metal elements were significantly decreased, the annual retention, uptake and return were 75.0, 115.4, and 40.3 kg/hm^2 for nutrient elements, and 1 878.0, 3 231.0 and 1 353.0 g/hm^2 for heavy metal elements, respectively, with the utilization coefficient, cycling coefficient and turnover rate of 0.92, 0.35 and 0.32 for nutrient elements, and 1.24, 0.42 and 1.92 for heavy metal elements, respectively. Our results suggested that the vegetation restoration in abandoned mining areas had significant effects in improving environmental conditions, enhancing soil available nutrients, and ensuring human health.

The evolution of the microphysical properties of raindrops from Typhoon Mangkhut’s outer rainbands as the storm made landfall in South China in September 2018 was *** observations by three two-dimensional video disdrometers deployed in central Guangdong Province were analyzed *** was found that the radial distribution of the median volume diameter(D_(0))and normalized intercept parameter(N_(w))varied in different stages,and that raindrops smaller than 3.0 mm contributed more than 99%of the total *** the characteristics of precipitation in the typhoon outer rainband,a modified stratiform rain(SR)-convective rain(CR)separator line is proposed based on D_(0) and N_(w) ***,an“S-C likelihood index”is introduced,which was used to classify three rain types(SR,CR,and mixed rain).The CR results were highly consistent with those of the improved typhoon precipitation classification method based on rain *** calculating effectively the radar reflectivity factor(Ze)in the Ku and Ka bands,D0-Ze and N_(w)-D_(0) empirical relations were thereby derived for improving the accuracy of rainfall *** the four quantitative precipitation estimators using S-band dual-polarimetric radar parameters simulated by the T-matrix method,the estimator that adopted the specific differential phase and differential reflectivity was found to be the most effective for both SR and CR.

The Paramesotriton Chang, 1935 genus of Asian warty newts is the second most diverse genus in the family Salamandridae, currently containing 14recognized species from northern Vietnam to southwest-central and southern China. Although species of this genus have been included in previous phylogenetic studies, the origin and interspecific relationships of the genus are still not fully resolved,especially at key nodes in the phylogeny. In this study, we sequenced mitochondrial genomes and 32nuclear genes from 27 samples belonging to 14species to reconstruct the interspecific phylogenetic relationships within Paramesotriton and explore its historical biogeography in southern China. Both Bayesianinferenceandmaximum-likelihood analyses highly supported the monophyly of Paramesotriton and its two recognized species groups(P. caudopunctatus and P. chinensis groups)and further identified five hypothetical phylogenetic cryptic species. Biogeographic analyses indicated that Paramesotriton originated in southwestern China(Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau/South China) during the late Oligocene. The time of origin of Paramesotriton corresponded to the second uplift of the Himalayan/Qinghai-Xizang(Tibetan) Plateau(QTP), rapid lateral extrusion of Indochina, and formation of karst landscapes in southwestern *** component analysis(PCA), independent sample t-tests, and niche differentiation using bioclimatic variables based on locations of occurrence suggested that Paramesotriton habitat conditions in the three current regions(West, South,and East) differ significantly, with different levels of climatic niche differentiation. Species distribution model(SDM) predictions indicated that the most suitable distribution areas for the P. caudopunctatus and P. chinensis species groups are western and southern/eastern areas of southern China. Preconcentration of Ultra-trace Cadmium with Nanometer-size TiO_2 Colloid and Determination by GFAAS with Slurry Sampling

A novel method of ultra-trace Cd（Ⅱ） preconcentration with nanometer-size TiO2 colloid and determination by graphite furnace atomic adsorption spectrometry（GFAAS） with slurry sampling was first advanced in this paper. The adsorption efficiency of nanometer-size TiO2 colloid for ultra-trace Cd（Ⅱ） could reach above 96% in a short time when the pH value was between 5 and 6. Other problems were also studied, such as adsorption capacity, nanometer-size TiO2 colloid dosage, effect of coexistent ions. The detection limit（3σ） and the relative standard deviation （R.S.D） of this method were 4.46.103 μg/L and 1.30%（n=7）, respectively. The method was successfully applied to the analysis of environmental samples with recoveries between 93.8% and 96.4%.

Eucommiae Folium(EF),a traditional Chinese medicine,has been used to treat secondary hypertension,including renal hypertension and salt-sensitive hypertension,as well as hypertension caused by thoracic aortic endothelial dysfunction,a high-fat diet,and oxidized low-density *** antihypertensive components of EF are divided into four categories:flavonoids,iridoids,lignans,and phenylpropanoids,such as chlorogenic acid,geniposide acid and pinoresinol *** regulates the occurrence and development of hypertension by regulating biological processes,such as inhibiting inflammation,regulating the nitric oxide synthase pathway,reducing oxidative stress levels,regulating endothelial vasoactive factors,and lowering blood ***,its molecular antihypertensive mechanisms are still unclear and require further *** this review,by consulting the relevant literature on the antihypertensive effects of EF and using network pharmacology,we summarized the active ingredients and pharmacological mechanisms of EF in the treatment of hypertension to clarify how EF is associated with secondary hypertension,the related components,and underlying *** results of the network pharmacology analysis indicated that EF treats hypertension through a multicomponent,multi-target and multi-pathway *** particular,we discussed the role of EF targets in the treatment of hypertension,including epithelial sodium channel,heat shock protein70,rhoassociated protein kinase 1,catalase,and superoxide *** relevant signal transduction pathways,the ras homolog family member A(RhoA)/Rho-associated protein kinase(ROCK)and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate(NADPH)oxidase/eNOS/NO/Ca^(2+)pathways,are also discussed.
