A series of Cu-23Zn-10Al (at pet) alloy specimens subjected to different heat-treatment processes have been studied by means of Doppler broadening technique of positron annihilation combined with mechanical test. Results show that the mechanism of quenched-in vacancies, instead of the other suggested ones, plays a dominant role in thermoelastic martensite stabilization of Cu-based shape memory alloy. Knowing the character of the movement of quenched-in vacancies and eliminating them as rapidly as possible are the basis for further optimizing heat-treatment process to obtain desired shape memory performance.

THE oxidative dehydrogenation of propane （ODP） to propene is one of the potentially important catalytic processes for the effective utilization of light alkanes. The VMgO catalysts which have better catalytic performances for the reaction have aroused much interest and *** et al. proposed that the active phase was magnesium orthovanadate （Mg3V2O8）, but Volta et al. suggested that magnesium pyrovanadate （α-Mg2V2O7） was the active phase; in this phase, V4+ ions which are associated to the formation of oxygen vacancies could stably exist, and Mg3V2O8 is responsible for the total oxidation due to nonexistence of V4+ ions.

Nanofiltration technology has opened an efficient pathway to addressing the grand issue of wastewater ***(PEI),as a hydrophilic polymer,is a promising material to manufacture separation membranes owing to its ***,we prepared a hyperbranched PEI-based separation mem-brane through the supramolecular hydrogen bond interaction for wastewater *** amino groups in the PEI molecule were partially oxidized to the nitro groups with sodium hypochlorite(NaClO).Moreover,the PEI molecu-lar chains can be regulated from the hyperbranched state to the internal nucle-ation *** dynamics simulation results further indicated the strong hydrogen bonds among the oxidized PEI(O-PEI)molecular chains and the decreased gyration radius of the O-PEI molecule due to the formation of the nitro *** addition,the wettability and zeta potential of O-PEI membranes can be controlled by adjusting the molecular weight and oxidation degree of the PEI *** the collective effect of size screening and charge repulsion,the O-PEI separation membrane displayed a wide range of purification capabilities for contaminations,such as dye molecules and *** work may offer a new strategy to fabricate hyperbranched O-PEI membranes for wastewater purifica-tion.

The study revealed the safety of Dennettia tripetala seed on man and the *** male rats weighing 0.158-0.168 kg housed in standard cages with free access to food and water were used for the *** median lethal dose(LD50)was estimated using revised up and down *** LD50 for *** seed extract was 5785 mg/kg and this evoked paralysis in rats for 4 days coupled with discharge from the eyes and eventual *** least weight gain by the animals administered 75%seed powder of ***(4338.75 mg/kg)was an index of high powder concentration,whereas the weight loss experienced by group V animals is strongly attributed to chemical assault by permethrin designated as a standard *** high values of alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),and urea in the groups administered 75%permethrin powder(4338.75 mg/kg)and 75%*** seed powder is an index of liver and kidney injury and *** presence of normal serum levels of ALT,AST,alkaline phosphatase,and creatinine;normal liver and kidney structures;and normal weight gains in the animal groups fed basal diet(control)and basal diet plus 25%*** is a strong indication that 25%*** seed powder(1446.25 mg/kg)supplementation is not toxic to the liver and kidney and therefore supports normal organ *** LD50 recorded strongly indicates that *** has a moderately high safety *** of less than 50%(2892.5 mg/kg)is recommended in the safe use of the plant material as grain protectant,food,and *** botanical insecticide,***,is safer than the conventional synthetic insecticide,permethrin,on account of the latter showing evidence of kidney damage.

Cremaster muscle thickening: the anatomic difference in men with testicular retraction due to hyperactive cremaster muscle reflex

The objective was to assess whether men suffering from testicular retraction secondary to hyperactive cremaster muscle reflex havean anatomic difference in the thickness of the cremaster muscle in comparison to men who do not have retraction. From March2021 to December 2021, 21 men underwent microsurgical subinguinal cremaster muscle release (MSCMR) on 33 spermatic cordunits, as 12 of them had bilateral surgery, at Surgicare of South Austin Ambulatory Surgery Center in Austin, TX, USA. Duringthat same time frame, 36 men underwent subinguinal microsurgical varicocele repair on 41 spermatic cord units, as 5 werebilateral for infertility. The thickness of cremaster muscles was measured by the operating surgeon in men undergoing MSCMRand varicocele repair. Comparison was made between the cremaster muscle thickness in men with testicular retraction due toa hyperactive cremaster muscle reflex undergoing MSCMR and the cremaster muscle thickness in men undergoing varicocelerepair for infertility with no history of testicular retraction, which served as an anatomic control. The mean cremaster musclethickness in men who underwent MSCMR was significantly greater than those undergoing varicocele repair for infertility, witha mean cremaster muscle thickness of 3.9 (standard deviation [s.d.]: 1.2) mm vs 1.0 (s.d.: 0.4) mm, respectively. Men withtesticular retraction secondary to a hyperactive cremaster muscle reflex demonstrate thicker cremaster muscles than controls,those undergoing varicocele repair. An anatomic difference may be a beginning to understanding the pathology in men whostruggle with testicular retraction.

Symptom clusters and quality of life among patients with advanced heart failure

Objectives To identify symptom clusters among patients with advanced heart failure （HF） and the independent relationships with their quality of life （QoL）. Methods This is the secondary data analysis of a cross-sectional study which interviewed 119 patients with advanced HF in the geriatric unit of a regional hospital in Hong Kong. The symptom profile and QoL were assessed by using the Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale （ESAS） and the McGill QoL Questionnaire. Exploratory factor analysis was used to identify the symptom clusters. Hier- archical regression analysis was used to examine the independent relationships with their QoL, after adjusting the effects of age, gender, and comorbidities. Results The patients were at an advanced age （82.9± 6.5 years）. Three distinct symptom clusters were identified： they were the distress cluster （including shortness of breath, anxiety, and depression）, the decondition cluster （fatigue, drowsiness, nausea, and reduced appetite）, and the discomfort cluster （pain, and sense of generalized discomfort）. These three symptom clusters accounted for 63.25% of variance of the patients＇ symptom experience. The small to moderate correlations between these symptom clusters indicated that they were rather independent of one another. After adjusting the age, gender and comorbidities, the distress （β = -0.635, P 〈 0.001）, the decondition （β = -0.148, P = 0.01）, and the discomfort （β = -0.258, P 〈 0.001） symptom clusters independently predicted their QoL. Conclusions This study identified the distinctive symptom clusters among patients with advanced HF. The results shed light on the need to develop palliative care interventions for optimizing the symptom control for this life-limiting disease.

In order to solve the problem of calculating the ultimate strength of marine plate under pitting corrosion,the plate taking from marine with pitting corrosion was studied. Based on the data of pitting corrosion recorded,the concept of pitting corrosion characteristic element matrix was proposed to describe the distribution and the forms of pitting. Moreover,the model of sensitivity calculation was established to analyse the sensitivity of pitting corrosion characteristic elements for the ultimate bearing capacity of ship structural plate. A new approach was proposed to calculate the ultimate strength of pitting damaged ship structural plate under combined loads based on the factor of rigidity reduction. Simultaneously this new approach was proven to be validated by finite element simulation. Finally,formula of ultimate strength of pitting damaged ship hull plate was established by series of numerical calculations based on the approach,and the reliability of the formula was validated as well.
