The Tongkuangyu porphyry copper deposit in the Zhongtiao Mountains, China, is tectonically located on the southern margin of the North China platform and on the northern margin of the Late Archean Zhongtiaoshan intracontinental rift basin. The deposit occurs in a copper-bearing formation of tuffaceous variegated sandshale-K-rich bimodal volcanic rocks of the Tongkuangyu Formation of the Late Archean Jiangxian Group, and the orebodies are localized in a transition portion between tuffaceous variegated sandshale and bimodal volcanic rocks. AIM: To study glutamine synthetase (GS) activity and glutamate uptake in the hippocampus and frontal cortex (FC) from rats with prehepatic portal vein hypertension. METHODS: Male Wistar rats were divided into shamoperated group and a portal hypertension (PH) group with a regulated stricture of the portal vein. Animals were sacrificed by decapitation 14 d after portal vein stricture. GS activity was determined in the hippocampus and FC. Specific uptake of radiolabeled L-glutamate was studied using synaptosome-enriched fractions that were freshly prepared from both brain areas. rESULTS: We observed that the activity of GS increased in the hippocampus of PH rats, as compared to control animals, and decreased in the FC. A significant decrease in glutamate uptake was found in both brain areas, and was more marked in the hippocampus. The decrease in glutamate uptake might have been caused by a deficient transport function, signif icantly and persistent increase in this excitatory neurotransmitter activity. CONCLUSION: The presence of moderate ammonia blood levels may add to the toxicity of excitotoxic glutamate in the brain, which causes alterations in brain function. Portal vein stricture that causes portal hypertension modif ies the normal function in some brain regions.

AIM： To study the effect of bilirubin on the oxidative liver status and the activity and expression of heine oxygenase-1 （HO-1） in rat liver injury induced by prehepatic portal hypertension. METHODS： Wistar male rats, weighing 200-250 g, were divided at random into two groups： one group with prehepatic portal hypertension （PH） induced by regulated prehepatic portal vein ligation （PPVL） and the other group corresponded to sham operated rats. Portal pressure, oxidative stress parameters, antioxidant enzymes, HO-1 activity and expression and hepatic sinusoidal vasodilatation were measured. rESULTS： In PPVL rats oxidative stress was evidenced by a marked increase in thiobarbituric acid reactive substances （TBArS） content and a decrease in reduced glutathione （GSH） levels. The activities of liver antioxidant enzymes, superoxide dismutase （SOD）, catalase （CAT） and glutathione peroxidase （GSH-Px） were also diminished while activity and expression of HO-1 were enhanced. Administration of bilirubin （5μmol/kg body weight） 24 h before the end of the experiment entirely prevented all these effects. Pretreatment with Sn-protoporphyrin IX （Sn-PPIX）（100 μg/kg body weight, i.p.）, a potent inhibitor of HO, completely abolished the oxidative stress and provoked a slight decrease in liver GSH levels as well as an increase in lipid peroxidation. Besides, carbon monoxide, another heme catabolic product, induced a significant increase in sinusoidal hepatic areas in PPVL group. Pretreatment of PPVL rats with Sn-PPIX totally prevented this effect CONCLUSION： These results suggest a beneficial role of HO-1 overexpression in prehepatic portal hypertensive rats.

Callus cultures of Annona muricata and Annona purpurea were induced in Murashige and Skoog(MS)medium supplemented with different concentrations of 1-naphthylacetic acid(NAA),6-benzyladenine(BA)and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid(2,4-D)utilized hypocotyls with *** highest percentage of callus formation was the treatment supplemented with 3 mg L-1 NAA for ***(100%)while for *** in lower percentage(75%).BA stimulated the formation of shoots in all the evaluated concentrations,being the concentration of 2 mg L-1 the one that induced the greater formation of shoots for ***(23 shoots/explant)and ***(28 shoots/explant).The content of total phenols,flavonoids and antioxidant activity was measured in the callus obtained from both *** results showed that a higher content of total phenols was quantified in callus of ***(27.8 mg g-1 dw)compared to ***(23.2 mg g-1 dw).The highest content of total flavonoids was observed in the callus of ***(8.0μg g-1 dw).Antioxidant activity was determined by the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydracil radical *** concentration required for 50%inhibition(IC50)of the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydracil radicals were 4.22μg mL-1 in methanolic extracts of callus of ***,while in extracts of callus of *** was 2.86μg mL-1,in both cases was greater than that found for *** culture of the species studied in this work represents an alternative for the production of natural antioxidants.

Synthesis of a malaria candidate glycosylphosphatidylinositol （GPI） structure： A strategy for fully inositol acylated and phosphorylated GPIs

A congener of the glycosylpbosphatidylinositol (GPI) membrane anchor present on the cell surface of the malaria pathogen Plasmodium, falciparum has been synthesized. This GPI is an example of a small number of such membrane anchors that carry a fatty acyl group at 0-2 of the inositol. Although the acyl group plays crucial roles in GPI biosynthesis, it rarely persits in mature *** notable examples are the mammalian GPIs CD52 and AchE. The presence of bulky functionalities at three contiguous positions of the inositol moiety creates a very crowded environment that poses difficulties for carrying out selective chemical *** installations of the axial long-chain acyl group and neighboring pbosphoglyceryl complex were fraught with obstacles. The key solution to these obstacles in the successful synthesis of the malarial candidate and prototype structures involved stereoelectronically controlled opening of a cyclic ortho ester. The reaction proceeds in very good yields, the desired axial diastereomer being formed predominantly, even more so in the case of long-chain acyl derivatives. The myoinositol precursor was prepared from methyl alpha-D-glu-copyranoside by the biornimetic procedure of Bender and Budhu. For the glycan array, advantage was taken of the fact that (a) n-pentenyl ortho ester donors are rapidly and chemospecifically activated upon treatment with ytterbium triflate and N-iedosueeinimide and (b) coupling to an aeeeptor affords alpha-coupled product exclusively. A strategy for obtaining the GPI's alpha-glucosaminide component from the corresponding a-mannoside employed Deshong's novel azide displacement procedure. Thus all units of the glycan array were obtained from a beta-D-manno-n-pentenyl ortho ester, this being readily prepared from D-mannose in three easy, high-yielding steps. In recent years,there has been a growing interest in exploring alternative treatments for bone *** tissue engineering has turned its attention to plant extracts containing osteogenic flavonoids as potential promoters of bone *** our study,we specifically investigated the extract of Petroselinum crispum,a plant known for its abundance of osteogenic flavonoids such as apigenin,quercetin,and *** objective was to compare the total flavonoid content(TFC)and their accumulation in different *** obtained hydrolyzed aqueous extracts from the leaves of parsley plants(grown for 12 weeks in the field),weekly embryogenic cultures,and suspension cell *** TFC,measured in mg quercetin equivalent per gram of dry weight(QE mg/g dw),was found to be 53.81±0.97 for 52 g dw of leaves(1 kg plant fw),31.10±1.52 for 420 g dw of embryogenic cultures,and 11.80±0.76 for 210 g dw of cell ***,only the leaves and embryogenic cultures showed significant accumulation of osteogenic flavonoids,with apigenin levels of 1.8±0.3 and 0.32±0.02 mg/g dw,and kaempferol levels of 1.0±0.18 and 0.2±0.01 mg/g dw,*** findings indicate that embryogenic cultures have the potential to produce up to 40%more apigenin in 12 weeks compared to 1 kg of parsley plant,thanks to their superior biomass reproductive *** results present a promising biotechnological approach for generating extracts enriched with bioactive compounds,which can be further utilized in in vitro osteogenic testing.
