Goat whey is an industry-discarded dairy by-product that has interesting nutritional value and a nutrient composition with important functional potential,where proteins have a high biological value and play an important role in the organism’s ***,the aim of this study was to identify,quantify,concentrate and investigate the capacity of goat whey proteins to perform different biological activities and to evaluate their acute *** proteins were quantified and identified by Bradford,Kjehdal and SDS-PAGE *** activity was performed against Listeria monocytogenes,Salmonella spp.,Staphylococcus aureus,Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli microorganisms and showed MIC ranging from 15 to 120μg mL-1,with the highest inhibition for *** *** activity was performed against human malignant melanoma cells and their proliferation inhibition was up to 66.8%within 72 h of *** highest antioxidant capacity was obtained at concentration 2 mg that showed 29.69%of inhibition of DPPH radical *** acute toxicity test was performed using Artemia franciscana larvae in which whey proteins were able to preserve larval survival throughout ***,we can conclude that goat’s whey has proteins that can play a positive effect on health,with antimicrobial activity and without *** present study highlights the great potential of goat’s whey to be developed as a safe biopreservative or as a functional ingredient in the food industry.

The fungi have wide distribution in ecosystems and can be found colonizing various substrates,where they act as efficient decomposers,participating in cycling of *** present study aimed to assess the diversity,richness and composition of filamentous fungi in leaf litter and aerial litter in a semi-deciduous forest in the Chapada Diamantina,Bahia,*** of leaf litter and aerial litter were collected monthly from October/2009 to September/2010 in eight installments in the studied *** samples were washed,placed in moist chambers and incubated.47 taxa were identified,37 in leaf litter and 35 in aerial litter,with 25 species common to both.A similarity of 69 % according to Sorensen *** similarity was considered low when the sample points were compared to the same *** fungi showed sporadic intervals.

BACKGROUND: Prehospital medication is a reality, and the role of these therapies must be explored to assess their validity, especially for acute respiratory diseases, which are usually associated with increased morbidity. The aim of this study was to examine the association of prehospital medication use with mortality in patients with acute respiratory ***: A prospective, multicenter, emergency medical service(EMS) delivery cohort study was carried out in adults with unselected respiratory diseases managed by EMS who were transferred to the emergency department. From January 1, 2019, to October 31, 2023, six advanced life support units, thirty-eight basic life support units, and four hospitals in Spain participated in the study. Demographic data, vital signs, use of mechanical ventilation, prehospital respiratory diagnosis, and prehospital medication were collected. The primary outcome was 30-day in-hospital ***: A total of 961 patients were included, with a mortality rate of 17.5%(168 patients). Age, an increasing number of comorbidities, the use of invasive mechanical ventilation(IMV), the use of major analgesics, hypnotics, and bicarbonate were risk factors. In contrast, elevated systolic blood pressure and Glasgow Coma Scale scores were found to be protective factors against mortality. The predictive capacity of the model reached an area under the curve(AUC) of 0.857(95% confidence interval [95% CI] 0.827–0.888).CONCLUSION: Our data revealed that IMV, major analgesics, hypnotics and bicarbonate administration were associated with elevated mortality. Adding prehospital drug therapy information to demographic variables and vital signs could improve EMS decision-making, allowing a better characterization of patients at risk of clinical worsening.

Overcoming antibiotic-resistant Helicobacter pylori infection:Current challenges and emerging approaches

Recent studies have shown a noticeable increase in global Helicobacter pylori(***)resistance,with clarithromycin resistance surpassing 15%in various ***,inadequate epidemiological monitoring,especially in developing countries,and the absence of uniform testing methods lead to discrepancies between regions and a possible underestimation of resistance *** complexity of treating *** is driven by its highly dynamic genome,which is prone to frequent mutations contributing to phenotypical *** usual course of action in empirical treatment involves using a combination of various drugs simultaneously,leading to significant resistance selection pressure and potential side *** emergence of *** strains resistant to multiple drugs is closely tied to failures in first-line treatment,highlighting the need to prevent further resistance by using optimal initial empirical therapy or regimens guided by antibiotic susceptibility testing,requiring a collection of mixed samples and multiple isolates for accurate *** emergence of new treatments like potassium-competitive acid blockers offers a hopeful approach to decrease antimicrobial usage while still ensuring effectiveness in comparison to traditional therapies with proton pump ***,the use of probiotics is under investigation to identify specific strains and formulations that may mitigate therapy-associated adverse effects.

The applications of bionic methodology developed by the Laboratory of Design and Material Selection as basis in the creation of junction elements were demonstrated. These elements favor the application of Ecodesign in reference to the effectiveness of product dismount aiming the reduction of ambient impact in all its phases of use. The creation, the development and the confection of new junction elements were described, and case studies of new products developed specifically with this purpose were presented.

Tribological performance of uncoated and TiCN-coated D2,M2 and M4 steels under lubricated condition

Hard coatings are used to improve the wear resistance of metals which largely depends on adhesion between substrate and *** wear and friction behavior of uncoated and TiCN-coated D2,M2 and M4 steels were evaluated by apin-on-disk test under lubricated *** order to evaluate the influence of lubricant on wear performance,dry friction tests were also *** results showed that friction coefficients were very similar for both uncoated and TiCN-coated *** lubricated conditions,the uncoated D2 tool steel exhibited the lowest friction coefficient,but the TiCN-coated D2 steel presented the smallest wear *** was the main wear mechanism in all the ***,microhardness measurements were carried out,finding an influence of the steel substrate on the hardness of the ***,adhesion test was conducted,suggesting agood adhesion of class 1 between substrates and TiCN coatings.

Effectiveness of rotavirus vaccines against rotavirus infection and hospitalization in Latin America: systematic review and metaanalysis

Background:Rotavirus was the leading cause of childhood diarrhoea-related hospitalisations and death before the introduction of rotavirus ***:We describe the effectiveness of rotavirus vaccines to prevent rotavirus infections and hospitalizations and the main rotavirus strains circulating before and after vaccine introduction through a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies published between 1990 and 2014.203 studies were included to estimate the proportion of infections due to rotavirus and 10 to assess the impact of the vaccines.41 of 46 studies in the post-vaccination period were used for meta-analysis of genotypes,20 to calculate VE against infection,eight for VE against hospitalisation and seven for VE against severe ***:24.3%(95%CI 22.1–26.5)and 16.1%(95%CI 13.2–19.3)of cases of diarrhoea were due to rotavirus before and after vaccine introduction,*** most prevalent G types after vaccine introduction were G2(51.6%,95%CI 38–65),G9(14.5%,95%CI 7–23)and G1(14.2%,95%CI 7–23);while the most prevalent P types were P[4](54.1%,95%CI 41–67)and P[8](33%,95%CI 22–46).G2P[4]was the most frequent genotype combination after vaccine *** was 53%(95%CI 46–60)against infection,73%(95%CI,66–78)against hospitalisation and 74%(95%CI,68.0–78.0)against severe *** in hospitalisations and mortality due to diarrhoea were observed in countries that adopted universal rotavirus ***:Rotavirus vaccines are effective in preventing rotavirus-diarrhoea in children in Latin *** vaccines were associated with changes in genotype distribution.

Implications of denitrification in the ecological status of an urban river using enzymatic activities in sediments as an indicator

A better understanding of the effects of a number of environmental factors on denitrification is vital for analyzing its role as nitrogen sink and providing deeper knowledge about the ecological status of a nitrate-rich ecosystem. Since few studies have addressed the occurrence and implications of denitrification in river sediments, and complexity of interactions among all these environmental factors makes comprehension of the process difficult, the potential of sediments from the Deba River to attenuate nitrate excess through denitrification was investigated. For this purpose, we adapted an in vitro method to measure activities of two enzymes contributing to the entire multiple-step nitrate reduction: Nitrate Reductase and Nitrite Reductase. The environmental features that influence both or single enzymatic activities were identified as oxygen availability,regulated directly by the moisture content or indirectly through the aerobic respiration,organic matter and nitrate content of sediments, and electrical conductivity and exchangeable sodium percentage of water. Additionally, our results showed that Nitrate Reductase catalyzes the principal limiting step of denitrification in sediments. Therefore,taking this enzymatic activity as an indicator, the southern part of the Deba River catchment presented low potential to denitrify but nitrate-limited sediments, whereas the middle and northern parts were characterized by high denitrification potential but nitraterich sediments. In general, this study on denitrifying enzymatic activities in sediments evaluates the suitability of the management of the effluents from wastewater treatment plants and municipal sewages to ensure a good ecological status of the Deba River.

Botanical Aspects,Caffeine Content and Antioxidant Activity of Coffea arabica

Brazil is the largest coffee exporter in the world. In addition, it occupies the second position, among the consuming countries of the drink. To investigate the chemical composition and quality of the coffee drink from Coffea arabica species, samples grown in the city of Ourinhos, the third most productive region in the state of Sao Paulo, a study of its properties and characteristics was conducted. The pharmacobotanical characteristics were investigated performed according to usual techniques in these researches through macroscopic and microscopic studies through cross-sections. The oil obtained for analysis was extracted by soxhlet, and the caffeine content was measured for green grains using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) using as stationary phase, column C18 and gradient mobile phase formed by 80% water and 20% methanol. The concentration obtained was 44.983 ± 0.86 μg/mL. The antioxidant activity was measured in triplicate through the DPPH test of the in natura coffee oil, and presented antioxidant action of EC50 25.89 ± 1.16 μg/mL.
