BACKGROUND Radicular cyst is a lesion of odontogenic origin that arises from epithelial remains due to periapical periodontitis caused by inflammatory reactions generated at the apex of affected teeth with infected or necrotic *** therapeutic mana gement of radicular cysts is *** is only one case report of enucleation of a radicular cyst managed with microsurgery and apicoectomy,but without the use of the guided tissue regeneration(GTR)technique in the same surgical *** present clinical case describes the management of a radicular cyst with microsurgical approach,performance of an apicoectomy of the tooth associated with the entity,application of GTR technique,use of a resorbable membrane of type I bovine collagen,and bovine *** sUMMARY A 68-year-old patient presented with a radicular cyst from an upper lateral *** microsurgical management used was aimed at enucleating the chemical membrane,performing apicoectomy of the tooth along with careful and precise retrograde filling,and implementing GTR technique using a resorbable collagen membrane and bovine *** diagnosis of radicular cyst was confirmed using histopathological *** patient underwent follow-up evaluations at 10 and 30 d *** 4 months postoperative evaluation,she remained asymptomatic,and radiographs showed significant periapical healing with adequate bone *** These results suggest that microsurgical management using the GTR technique with collagen membrane and xenograft,contributes to bone regeneration.

Ultraviolet radiation by its wavelength is divided into: UVA, UVB and UVC. Only UVA and UVB manage to penetrate the ozone layer, but due to anthropological activities, all of them are capable of interacting with humans to a greater or lesser extent, and can generate adverse effects such as cellular stress when interacting with intra-and extracellular biomolecules. The skin is the first organ in contact with UV radiation, and the stress it generates can be analyzed by the expression of a bioindicator of cellular damage such as Hsp70. Therefore, the objective of the project was: to determine the effect of UVA, UVB and UVC radiation on HaCaT epithelial cells, by analyzing the expression of Hsp70. Materials and methods: HaCaT cells were cultured in vitro, which were irradiated with UVA, UVB and UVC light at different doses, to subsequently determine the degree of Hsp70 expression by Immunodetection by pAGE-sDs and Western Blot. Results: Basal expression of Hsp70 was observed in no irradiated HaCaT cells. When HaCaT cells were irradiated with UVA, UVB, UVC, an increase in this Hsp70 protein was observed. With UVA, a higher degree of expression was observed at a time of 30 minutes of irradiation. With UVB the highest expression shifted to a time of 20 minutes. With UVC, overexpression was observed after 10 minutes. Conclusion: UV radiation generates cellular stress on HaCaT cells, evaluated by the stress bioindicator Hsp70. According to the wavelength of UV radiation, those that have a shorter wavelength have a greater potential for cellular damage, such as UVC.

Cost-Effectiveness Analysis of Renalof® versus Extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (EsWl) for the Treatment of Kidney stones ≤ 1 cm in Nicaragua

Objectives: To assess the efficiency in terms of cost-effectiveness (CE) of oral Renalof® treatment versus extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (EsWl) in the treatment of kidney stones ≤ 1 cm in Nicaragua. Methods: A cost-effectiveness economic evaluation was carried out based on the results obtained in the randomised, prospective, observational, single-blind, prospective, phase 2 clinical trial. Cost-effectiveness and the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) were calculated. Economic data were obtained from the Economics Department of Clínica senior in Managua, Nicaragua. The monetary cost was expressed in Us dollars (UsD). Results: Treatment with Renalof® yielded a CE of $1,323.08/% remission, while EsWl was $9,498.54/% remission. The ICER shows that, in order to achieve a high percentage of kidney stone remission with EsWl, an extra $4,734.70 per patient must be invested. Conclusions: The use of Renalof® is shown to be a more cost-effective option than EsWl. It is recommended for the treatment of kidney stones ≤ 1 cm in size.

Fully reversible spectral compression of arbitrary pulsed data signals

Data signals consisting of arbitrarily modulated sequences of pulses are extensively used for processing and communication *** spectral extent of such signals is determined by the bandwidth of the individual pulses in the sequence,which imposes a fundamental limit to the maximum amount of information that can be transmitted or processed per time *** this work,we propose and experimentally demonstrate that the frequency spectrum occupied by a data-modulated pulse sequence can be significantly compressed to well below the individual pulse bandwidth while still maintaining the temporal duration of the pulses in the sequence and without losing any of the information carried by the *** proposed method involves fully reversible linear transformations of the data signal along the time and frequency *** demonstrate successful pulse-shapepreserving spectral compression and subsequent full waveform and information recovery of a^10 Gb/s optical pulse sequence,modulated by an arbitrary data pattern,liberating over 60%of its *** findings should prove useful for applications in signal processing,communications,and others.

Background pediatric cancer survivors are at increased risk of muscle weakness and low areal bone mineral density(aBMD).However,the prevalence of muscle strength deficits is not well documented,and the associations of muscle strength with aBMD are unknown in this ***,this study aimed to investigate the prevalence of upper-and lower-body muscle strength deficits and to examine the associations of upper-and lower-body muscle strength with age-,sex,and race-specific aBMD z-scores at the total body,total hip,femoral neck,and lumbar *** This cross-sectional study included 116 pediatric cancer survivors(12.1±3.3 years old,mean±sD;42.2%female).Upper-and lower-body muscle strength were assessed by handgrip and standing long jump test,***‑energy X‑ray absorptiometry was used to measure aBMD(g/cm2).Associations between muscle strength and aBMD were evaluated in multivariable linear regression *** regression was used to evaluate the contribution of muscle strength(1-decile lower)to the odds of having low aBMD(z-score≤1.0).All analyses were adjusted for time from treatment completion,radiotherapy exposure,and body mass *** More than one-half of survivors were within the 2 lowest deciles for upper-(56.9%)and lower-body muscle strength(60.0%)in comparison to age-and sex-specific reference *** strength deficits were associated with lower aBMD z-scores at all sites(B=0.133–0.258,p=0.001–0.032).Each 1-decile lower in upper-body muscle strength was associated with 30%–95%higher odds of having low aBMD z-scores at all *** 1-decile lower in lower-body muscle strength was associated with 35%–70%higher odds of having low aBMD z-scores at total body,total hip,and femoral *** Muscle strength deficits are prevalent in young pediatric cancer survivors,and such deficits are associated with lower aBMD z-scores at all *** results suggest that interventions designed to improve muscle strength in t

The replacement of native dry forests by commercial(exotic)tree plantations could generate changes in rainfall partitioning,which further affects the water *** this study,we determined(i)the rainfall partitioning into interception,throughfall and stemflow,(ii)the role of rainfall event size on rainfall partitioning,(iii)the pH of water channelized as throughfall and stemflow,and(iv)the runoff in lithraea molleoides(a native species)and pinus elliottii(an exotic species)stands in the dry Chaco mountain forests,central *** average,interception,throughfall and stemflow accounted for 19.3%,79.5%and 1.2%of the gross rainfall in *** stand,and 32.6%,66.7%and 0.7%of the gross rainfall in *** stand,*** of interception,throughfall and stemflow presented positive linear relationships with the increment of rainfall event size for both tree species(pll cases).percentages of interception,throughfall and stemflow were all related to the increment of rainfall event size,showing different *** increasing rainfall event size,interception exponentially decreased,throughfall asymptotically increased and stemflow linearly *** *** and *** stands presented significant differences in the pH values of water channelized as throughfall(6.3 vs.6.7,respectively;pstemflow(4.5 vs.5.8,respectively;ppied only 0.3%of the gross rainfall in *** stand and was zero in *** *** results showed that the native species *** presented 13.6%more water reaching the topsoil(i.e.,net rainfall;net rainfall=gross rainfall-interception-runoff)than the exotic species *** study improves our understanding of the effects of native vegetation replacement on the local water balance in the dry forest ecosystems.

Quality of life in Women with Endometriosis pelvic pain Treated with the levonorgestrel-Releasing Intrauterine system

Objective: To evaluate the quality of life in patients with endometriosis pelvic pain before and after the application of the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (lNG-IUs). Design: Open non-comparative study. setting: Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital at Monterrey, Mexico. sample: 29 women aged 18 to 40 years with pelvic pain associated with endometriosis confirmed by laparoscopy. Methods: After laparoscopy but before lNG-IUs insertion (basal visit) and 6 months afterwards, modified Endometriosis Health profile (EHp-30) was applied. Main outcomes measures: size of change of questionnaire scores, need of additional analgesic therapy and adverse effects. statistical Analysis: Differences in the questionnaire scores before and after intervention were analyzed by student t-test. Results: Final analysis set included 29 women aged 31.7 ± 4.7 years years. The AsRM surgical staging of endometriosis was mild in 19.3 moderate in 13.7 and severe in 76% of the patients. The general perception of quality of life improved from 52 at baseline to 98% at six months (p se events were mild in nature, 19 patients reported no adverse events during the study (65.5%). Two patients (6.9%) required the use of concomitant therapy with non-steroidal analgesics for relief of pain. Conclusion: The application of lNG-IUs in patients with pelvic pain associated with endometriosis improved significatively all aspects related with quality of life as measured with Endometriosis Health profile (EHp-30). We concluded that lNGIUs may be an effective and convenient therapeutic alternative for the management of pain associated with endometriosis.
