T-cell protein tyrosine phosphatase(TC-pTp)has a critical role in the development of the immune system and has been identified as a negative regulator of ***-nucleotide polymorphisms in the TC-pTp locus have been associated with increased susceptibility to inflammatory bowel diseases(IBDs)in *** further understand how TC-pTp is related to IBDs,we investigated the role of TC-pTp in maintaining the intestinal epithelial barrier using an in vivo genetic *** epithelial cell(IEC)-specific deletion of TC-pTp was achieved in a mouse model at steady state and in the context of dextran sulphate sodium(DSS)-induced ***(KO)of TC-pTp in IECs did not result in an altered intestinal ***,upon DSS treatment,IECspecific TC-pTp KO mice displayed a more severe colitis phenotype with a corresponding increase in the immune response and inflammatory cytokine *** absence of TC-pTp caused an altered turnover of IECs,which is further explained by the role of the tyrosine phosphatase in colonic stem cell(CoSC)*** results suggest a novel role for TC-pTp in regulating the homeostasis of CoSC *** supports the protective function of TC-pTp against IBDs,independently of its previously demonstrated role in intestinal immunity.

Recent advances in genomic and post-genomic technologies have provided the opportu- nity to generate a previously unimaginable amount of information. However, biological knowledge is still needed to improve the understanding of complex mechanisms such as plant immune responses. Better knowledge of this process could improve crop production and management. Here, we used holistic analysis to combine our own microarray and RNA-seq data with public genomic data from Arabidopsis and cassava in order to acquire biological knowledge about the relationships between proteins encoded by immunity-related genes （IRGs） and other genes. This approach was based on a kernel method adapted for the construction of gene networks. The obtained results allowed us to propose a list of new IRGs. A putative function in the immunity pathway was predicted for the new IRGs. The analysis of networks revealed that our predicted IRGs are either well documented or recognized in previous co-expression studies. In addition to robust relationships between IRGs, there is evidence suggesting that other cellular processes may be also strongly related to immunity.

We evaluated the pathogenicity of six strains 1. fumosorosea to determine their potential as biological control agents of A. ludens by performing bioassays under laboratory conditions （25 ± 2 ℃, 60± 5% R.H and 12：12 h L： D） exposing larvae and pupae to a concentration of 1 × 10^8 conidia per milliliter using three different methods： direct spraying, spray of soil and submerged for both instars. The results showed that direct spraying method pfr-612 strain showed the highest mortality （47%） in pupae while for larvae was strain HIB-27 to 46%. Regarding spray of soil pfr-612 strain showed the highest percentage of mortality for pupae and larvae with 45 and 57% mortality, respectively. Finally, for the submerged method in pupae HIB-27 strain showed 62% mortality whereas in larvae HIB-32 strain showed 46%. These results indicate that A. ludens is susceptible in at least two instars to L fumosorosea and make this fungus a promising agent for control of the Mexican fruit fly.

The waste derived from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) is of interest now worldwide, in some countries due to the rapid technological development and in others due to technological dependence through the acquisition of second hand equipment. Therefore it is necessary to implement strategies for the sustainable management of electrical and electronic equipment at the end of its useful life. This paper presents the results of an investigation that was conducted in a city located in the Northwest of Mexico, which seeks to understand the management practices of household WEEE generators. A survey was applied to a representative sample of the population with a confidence level of 90%. Six home appliances were quantified and it was found that approximately 21% of them are disposed directly as part of the household flow of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW), while 79% are storage for a latter sale, repair or reuse. The results obtained support the need to develop evaluations and to implement possible scenarios for the sustainable management of Electrical and Electronic Waste.

Most of the toxicity data presented in the literature are obtained in relatively simple media, like distilled water. The literature reported that nanoparticles agglomerate immediately upon being added to cell culture media and if the agglomerates are used directly in antimicrobial studies, the interpretation of the toxicity results tends to be complicated. Six different molar ratios Ag-TiO2 composites were synthesized by a reduction method using two different commercial TiO2 particles as base materials and were used to find the aggregate size in distilled water and Mueller-Hinton Broth, and to obtain the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) against E. coli and E. faecalis. To evaluate the evolution of the Ag-TiO2 particle size (z-average) three dilutions of each of the synthesized composites 100 μg/ml, 250 μg/mL and 500 μg/ml were realized in deionized water and Mueller Hinton broth. It was found that Ag-TiO2 composites increased in size after being diluted in Mueller-Hinton Broth, but once they grew in size, they remained constant for 24 minutes, and after this time, did not affect the MIC for the microorganisms involved.

Breast cancer is the number one cause of can- cer deaths among Hispanic women in the United States, and in Mexico, it recently became the primary cause of cancer deaths. This malign- nancy represents a poorly understood and un- derstudied disease in Hispanic women. The ELLA Binational Breast Cancer Study was es- tablished in 2006 as a multi-center study to as- sess patterns of breast tumor markers, clinical characteristics, and their risk factors in women of Mexican descent. We describe the design and implementation of the ELLA Study and provide a risk factor comparison between women in the U.S. and those in Mexico based on a sample of 765 patients (364 in the U.S. and 401 in Mexico). Compared to women in Mexico, U.S. women had significantly (p parity (3.2 vs. 3.9 mean live births) and breastfeeding rates (57.5% vs. 80.5%), higher use of oral contraceptives (60.7% vs. 50.1%) and hormone replacement therapy (23.3% vs. 7.6%), and higher family history of breast cancer (15.7% vs. 9.0%). Re- sults show that differences in breast cancer risk factor patterns exist between Mexico and U.S. women. We provide lessons learned from the conduct of our study. Binational studies are an important step in understanding disease pat- terns and etiology for women in both countries.
