By exploiting the combined use of a heterogeneous recyclable palladium(II)-bis(N-heterocyclic carbene)catalyst and cyclopentyl methyl ether(CPME)as a convenient recoverable safer reaction medium,an effective wasteminimized approach has been developed for the intramolecular Pd-catalyzed C(sp3)-H activation of methyl pyrrole *** synthetic tools has allowed to access condensed N-heterocycles generally endowed with biological activities and representatively are the core motif of complex molecules such as Mitomycines and *** heterogeneous catalytic system could be recovered and reused up to representative five runs without any loss in *** target products(19 examples)have been obtained selectively and with excellent isolated yields up to 93%.The approach leads to the definition of a protocol with a very good E-factor(21)which is much lower(up to 98%)than those of comparable literature *** green metrics have been calculated and the data collected demonstrate that our newly developed protocol is very promising in terms of its environmental impact profile.

Joostella strains are emerging candidates for biosurfactant production. Here such ability was analyzed for Joostella strain A8 in comparison with Alcanivorax strain A53 and Pseudomonas strain A6, all previously isolated from hydrocarbon enrichment cultures made of polychaete homogenates. In pure cultures Joostella sp. A8 showed the highest stable emulsion percentage（78.33%）, hydrophobicity rate（62.67%）, and an optimal surface tension reduction during growth in mineral medium supplemented with diesel oil（reduction of about 12 mN/m）, thus proving to be highly competitive with Alcanivorax and Pseudomonas strains. During growth in pure culture different level of biodegradation were detected for Alcanivorax strain A53（52.7%）,Pseudomonas strain A6（38.2%） and Joostella strain A8（26.8%）. When growing in consortia,isolates achieved similar abundance values, with the best efficiency that was observed for the Joostella-Pseudomonas co-culture. Gas-chromatographic analysis revealed an increase in the biodegradation efficiency in co-cultures（about 90%）, suggesting that the contemporary action of different bacterial species could improve the process. Results were useful to compare the efficiencies of well-known biosurfactant producers（i.e. Pseudomonas and Alcanivorax representatives） with a still unknown biosurfactant producer, i.e. Joostella, and to confirm them as optimal biosurfactant-producing candidates.

Thermal processes on the Tibetan Plateau(TP)influence atmospheric conditions on regional and global *** this,previous work has shown that soil moisture−driven surface flux variations feed back onto the *** soil moisture is a source of atmospheric predictability,no study has evaluated soil moisture−atmosphere coupling on the TP in general circulation models(GCMs).In this study,we use several analysis techniques to assess soil moisture−atmosphere coupling in CMIP6 simulations including:instantaneous coupling indices;analysis of flux and atmospheric behaviour during dry spells;and a quantification of the preference for convection over drier *** these metrics we partition feedbacks into their atmospheric and terrestrial *** with previous global studies,we conclude substantial inter-model differences in the representation of soil moisture−atmosphere coupling,and that most models underestimate such *** on dry spell analysis,most models underestimate increased sensible heat during periods of rainfall *** example,the model-mean bias in anomalous sensible heat flux is 10 W m−2(≈25%)smaller compared to *** dry-spell sensible heat fluxes lead to a weaker atmospheric *** also find that most GCMs fail to capture the negative feedback between soil moisture and deep *** poor simulation of feedbacks in CMIP6 experiments suggests that forecast models also struggle to exploit soil moisture−driven *** improve the representation of land−atmosphere feedbacks requires developments in not only atmospheric modelling,but also surface processes,as we find weak relationships between rainfall biases and coupling indexes.

Externalized conductors and insulation failure in Biotronik defibrillator leads: History repeating or a false alarm?

Conductor externalization and insulation failure are frequent complications with the recalled St. Jude Medical Riata implantable cardioverter-defibrillator(ICD) leads. Conductor externalization is a "unique" failure mechanism: Cables externalize through the insulation("inside-out" abrasion) and appear outside the lead body. Recently, single reports described a similar failure also for Biotronik leads. Moreover, some studies reported a high rate of electrical dysfunction(not only insulation failure) with Biotronik Linox leads and a reduced survival rate in comparison with the competitors. In this paper we describe the case of a patient with a Biotronik Kentrox ICD lead presenting with signs of insulation failure and conductor externalization at fluoroscopy. Due to the high risk of extraction we decided to implant a new lead, abandoning the damaged one; lead reimplant was uneventful. Subsequently, we review currently available literature about Biotronik Kentrox and Linox ICD lead failure and in particular externalized conductors. Some single-center studies and a nonprospective registry reported a survival rate between 88% and 91% at 5 years for Linox leads, significantly worse than that of other manufacturers. However, the preliminary results of two ongoing multicenter, prospective registries(GALAXY and CELESTIAL) showed 96% survival rate at 5 years after implant, well within industry standards. ongoing data collection is needed to confirm longer-term performance of this family of ICD leads.

The introduction of nano-sized energetic ingredients first occurred in Russia about 60 years ago and arose great expectations in the rocket propulsion community, thanks to the higher energy densities and faster energy release rates exhibited with respect to conventional ingredients. But, despite intense worldwide research programs, still today mostly laboratory level applications are reported and often for scientific purposes only. A number of practical reasons prevent the applications at industrial level: inert native coating of the energetic particles, nonuniform dispersion, aging, excessive viscosity of the slurry propellant, possible limitations in mechanical properties, more demanding safety issues, cost, and so *** paper describes the main features in terms of performance of solid rocket propellants loaded with nanometals and intends to emphasize the unique properties or operating conditions made possible by the addition of the nano-sized energetic ingredients. Steady and unsteady combustion regimes are examined.

Changes in Soil organic Carbon After Five Years of Biowaste Compost Application in a Mediterranean Vegetable Cropping System

Biowaste compost can influence soil organic matter accumulation directly or indirectly. A 5-year experiment was conducted to assess the influence of biowaste compost on the process of soil aggregation and soil organic carbon(SoC) accumulation in a Mediterranean vegetable cropping system. The study involved four treatments: biowaste compost(CoM), mineral NPK fertilizers(MIN), biowaste compost with half-dose N fertilizer(CoMN), and unfertilized control(CK). The SoC stocks were increased in CoM, CoMN, and MIN by 20.2, 14.9, and 2.4 Mg ha^(-1)over CK, respectively. The SoC concentration was significantly related to mean weight diameter of aggregates(MWD)(P ded from regression analysis. Compared to CK, CoM and CoMN increased the SoC amount in macroaggregates(> 250 μm) by 2.7 and 0.6 g kg^(-1)soil, respectively, while MIN showed a loss of 0.4g kg^(-1)soil. The SoC amount in free microaggregates(53–250 μm) increased by 0.9, 1.6, and 1.0 g kg^(-1)soil for CoM, CoMN, and MIN, respectively, while those in the free silt plus clay aggregates(ot vary significantly. However, when separating SoC in particle-size fractions, we found that more stable organic carbon associated with mineral fraction oM-C) increased significantly by 3.4, 2.2, and 0.7 g kg^(-1)soil for CoM, CoMN, and MIN, respectively, over CK, while SoC amount in fine particulate organic matter(PoM) fraction(53–250 μm) increased only by 0.3 g kg^(-1)soil for both CoM and CoMN, with no difference in coarse PoM > 250 μm. Therefore, we consider that biowaste compost could be effective in improving soil structure and long-term C sequestration as more stable MoM-C.
