Clinical outcomes of cemented distal femur replacements with allpolyethylene tibial components for oncologic indications

BACKGROUND Endoprosthetic distal femoral replacement(DFR)is a well-established salvage procedure following resection of malignant tumors within the distal *** of an all-polyethylene tibial(APT)component is cost-effective and avoids failure due to locking-mechanism issues and backside wear,but limits modularity and the option for late liner *** to a paucity of literature we sought to answer three questions:(1)what are the most common modes of implant failure for patients undergoing cemented DFR with APT for oncologic indications?(2)what is the survivorship,rate of all-cause reoperation,and rate of revision for aseptic loosening of these implants?And(3)Is there a difference in implant survivorship or patient demographics between cemented DFRs with APT performed as a primary reconstruction vs those performed as a revision procedure?AIM To assess outcomes of cemented DFRs with APT components used for oncologic *** After Institutional Review Board approval,a retrospective review of consecutive patients who underwent DFR between December 2000 to September 2020 was performed using a single-institutional *** criteria consisted of all patients who underwent DFR with a GMRS®(Global Modular Replacement System,Stryker,Kalamazoo,MI,United States)cemented distal femoral endoprosthesis and APT component for an oncologic *** undergoing DFR for non-oncologic indications and patients with metal-backed tibial components were *** failure was recorded using Henderson's classification and survivorship was reported using a competing risks *** 55 DFRs(55 patients)with an average age of 50.9±20.7 years and average body mass index of 29.7±8.3 kg/m2 were followed for 38.8±54.9 mo(range 0.2-208.4).Of these,60.0%were female and 52.7%were *** majority of DFRs with APT in this cohort were indicated for oncologic diagnoses of osteogenic sarcoma(n=22,40.0%),giant cell tumor(n=9,16.4%),and metastatic carcin

A low redox potential and long life organic anode material for sodium-ion batteries

Sodium-ion batteries （SIBs） with organic electrodes are an emerging research direction due to the sustainability of organic materials based on elements like C,H,O,and sodium ***,organic electrode materials for SIBs are mainly used as cathodes because of their relatively high redox potentials（>1 V）.Organic electrodes with low redox potential that can be used as anode are ***,a novel organic anode material （tetrasodium 1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarboxylate,Na4TDC） has been developed with low redox potential （was demonstrated with various in-situ/ex-situ spectroscopy and theoretical calculations,showing a high capacity of 208 mAh/g and an average decay rate of merely 0.022%per ***,the Na4TDC-hard carbon composite can further acquire improved capacity and cycling stability for 1200 cycles even with a high mass loading of up to 20 mg *** pairing with a thick Na3V2（PO4）3cathode (20.6 mg cm-2),the as-fabricated full cell exhibited high operating voltage （2.8 V）,excellent rate performance and cycling stability with a high capacity retention of 88.7% after 200 cycles,well highlighting the Na4TDC anode material for SIBs.

Inclusions in Runner Steel During Ingot Casting

This paper reported the observation of inclusions in the steel of an ingot runner. Thermodynamic modeling was performed to study the formation mechanism and sources of inclusions. CFD modeling on fluid flow, heat transfer, solidification of molten steel was carried out and the entrapment of inclusions in runner steel was predicted and compared with the measurement. Al2O3-based inclusions were the main ones in the steel samples. MgO?Al2O3 mainly stemmed from the lining refractory. The high MnO inclusions in the runner steel came from the runner slag. The effect of natural convection was very important for the cooling and solidification of the steel in the runner. Both the observation and the modeling show that > 50μm inclusions more accumulated on the upper area in the runner and well and more accumulated on the lower area of the runner.

Dynamic modeling of a three-dimensional braided composite thin plate considering braiding directions

Currently, there are a limited number of dynamic models available for braided composite plates with large overall motions, despite the incorporation of three-dimensional(3D) braided composites into rotating blade components. In this paper, a dynamic model of 3D 4-directional braided composite thin plates considering braiding directions is established. Based on Kirchhoff's plate assumptions, the displacement variables of the plate are expressed. By incorporating the braiding directions into the constitutive equation of the braided composites, the dynamic model of the plate considering braiding directions is obtained. The effects of the speeds, braiding directions, and braided angles on the responses of the plate with fixed-axis rotation and translational motion, respectively, are investigated. This paper presents a dynamic theory for calculating the deformation of 3D braided composite structures undergoing both translational and rotational motions. It also provides a simulation method for investigating the dynamic behavior of non-isotropic material plates in various applications.

Permian–Triassic Charophytes: Distribution, Biostratigraphy and Biotic Events

Permian charophytes are known from the Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Germany, Saudi Arabia, China, the USA, Brazil, Paraguay and India. Most of these records are of Middle- Late Permian Age and are the basis of local biostratigraphic zonation in southern Russia and China. Development of a robust Permian charophyte biostratigraphy will require a more extensive record. Triassic charopbytes are known from Germany, Sweden, Poland, Slovenia, Bulgaria, the Ukraine, Russia, Morocco, Congo, the USA, Argentina, Kazakhstan and China. This encompasses records from all Triassic stages and has been the basis of detailed biostratigraphic zonation in southern Russia-Kazakhstan-eastern Europe. Permian and Triassic charophyte biostratigraphy at the level of genus does not provide detailed correlations beyond local or regional schemes. Nevertheless, it does identify some important evolutionary datums that constrain the timing of important biotic events in the Permian-Triassic evolutionary history of the Charophyta, including：（1） Early Permian extinction of the Palaeocharaceae; （2） Late Permian extinction of the ＂Trochiliscales＂（Moellerinales）; （3） Carboniferous origin of the paraphyletic Porocharaceae, soon followed during the Permian by the origin of the multicellular basal plate; and （4） an important generic turnover of charophytes across the Triassic-Jurassic boundary, though there are insufficient data to identify this as a mass extinction.
